The new robot head can speak, smile and even sing

A s*x doll company is making a Terminator-style robot head which can speak, smile and even sing – but only in Chinese, The Sun UK has reported.
The report revealed that the prototype of the DS Doll Robotic Head, which is coated in silicone “skin” and is controlled by a smartphone and a PlayStation controller, is the world’s most lifelike mechanical s*x servant.
Photos of the model made by Doll Sweet Dolls and EX Doll, has a “stunningly beautiful” face and can listen and answer questions using sophisticated voice recognition software.

The company is hoping to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help produce an English and Japanese version.
Despite not having a rotatable neck, the robot head will fit all the company’s other doll bodies, which have flexible limbs allowing them to “move as a real person.” Paul Lumb, head of Cloud Climax, says the prototype is the “Bugatti Veyron of VR” and comes with a similarly hefty price tag of around £4,500.

The company is Europe’s only authorised EX Doll retailer and the makers are hoping to bring the robotic head to the UK at the end of next year

World's Biggest Fertiliser Plant Goes Operational in Nigeria

The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, has announced in a statement issued in Abuja that Osinbajo will be inaugurating the world's biggest fertilizer plant in Rivers state.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will visit Port Harcourt, on Thursday, to inaugurate the world’s biggest fertiliser plant built by Indorama Eleme Fertiliser and Chemicals Limited.
Mr Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to the presidential aide, the plant with production capacity of 1.5 million metric tons of Urea fertiliser is considered the world’s largest single-train Urea plant.
Eleme Petrochemicals Company Ltd, now Indorama Eleme Fertiliser and Chemicals Limited, was privatised in 2006 after the sale of Federal Government’s 75 per cent shares to a core investor through competitive bidding process.
The  plant has a production capacity of 4,000 metric tons of nitrogenous fertiliser per day. It was built with $1.5 billion dollars.
The  opening of the plant is expected to boost the agriculture sector not just in Nigeria, but also in Africa and beyond.
Akande said fertiliser from the plant would be made available to farmers nationwide at affordable cost.
This will boost crop yield for farmers and help in minimising food grain deficit in Nigeria, Akande said.
The plant consists of 2300 TPD Ammonia plant, 4000 TPF Urea plant, 83 km long Gas Pipeline, and an Export Port Terminal.
The main plant, measuring approximately 40 hectares, is located within the perimeter of Indorama’s existing petrochemical site in Port Harcourt.
The Gas Pipeline for the fertiliser plant was constructed by IEFCL within an existing 15 meter wide Right of Way (“ROW”).
Part of the $1.5billion was used to build a new jetty  at Onne Port on a plot of land measuring approximate 6 hectares
The jetty comprises 320 m long Quay along with terminal infrastructure including all material handling facilities necessary for urea and a urea storage facility with a capacity of 45,000 MT.
The transfer of urea from the fertiliser plant will be by road via an existing road network.
Construction of the new fertiliser plant commenced in early 2013 with commissioning coming two years later than planned.

See What 24,000 Facebook Likes Have Done to a Couple

A man promised to marry his girlfriend if her Facebook gets as many as 500 likes, however something much more impressive happened.

Amanda Barr and Stuart Gunn

Women want longterm commitment, men are resistant – or so the stereotype goes.
While we may all dream of meeting someone who wants to marry us without being paid, bargained with, or badgered into it (wouldn’t it be nice to get hitched to someone who actually wants the same in return), sometimes, things don’t run that smoothly.
That’s the case for Amanda Barr, anyway.
She’s been bugging her partner, Stuart Gunn to marry her for the past ten years, but he’s always put off making the legal commitment.
This week, Amanda came up with a way to finally get a wedding: Facebook.
Amanda managed to get Stuart to agree to marry her if she got 500 likes on a Facebook post.
‘So as many of you already know me and Stuart has Been together now for 13 years we have 3 amazing beautifull children, a lovely home, we are happy and content,’ Amanda wrote on Facebook.
‘The only problem is my last name!! [I’ve] been nagging him for the past 10 years now to get married but no luck such as yet!!
‘So enough is enough now I’m not getting any younger I would love to be married by next year.
‘So Stuart has said if I get 500 likes and 50 shares by the end of this month he will propose this year and set a date for next year.
‘So I need all mine and Stuart’s family and friends to share and like the hell out of this post. LETS GET ME DOWN THE AISLE GUYS.’
The post has since received more than 24,000 likes, and racked up the necessary 500 likes within 55 minutes, so it’s safe to say that Stuart is now officially obligated to tie the knot.
‘I can’t believe it has gone like it has,’ said Amanda. ‘I’ve had messages from Australia, Poland, and America.’
It sounds like Stuart will be sticking to his end of the bargain.
‘If 22,000 people reckon I should marry Amanda then I should get on with it,’ he said. ‘It’s about time.’
Getting on with getting married out of social obligation and pressure from the internet. So romantic.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Immortalized on Bank Note in Sweden (Photos)

It is barely overstating the matter to say Zlatan Ibrahimovic has attained living legend status in Sweden. He is the country's top scorer and is being immortalised in a statue outside the national stadium.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has his face on currency after being represented on the 1,000 kroner note
Swedish professional footballer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played as a striker for Manchester United in last season's English Premier league, has attained living legend status in his country as he has just being immortalised with his face on currency after being represented on the 1,000 kroner note by a Swedish artist.
According to a report by Dailymail, he former Barcelona and Juventus striker who is also in a statue outside the country's national stadium, seemed impressed with the piece, made by photographer Bingo Rimer.
Ibrahimovic who shared the photo showing him posing with a blown up version of the note on Instagram, captioned it; 'You have Benjamin Franklin and you have me,' referring to the statesman whose likeness adorns the $100 note in the US.

Unfortunately for his fans, the note is not official Swedish currency and is not available, meaning you cannot make a payment with a wad of Zlatans.
It is unlike the official stamps released by Sweden in 2014, with five special edition pieces released of the forward in the yellow of the national team.
However the famously self-confident forward will be pleased with Rimer's choice of note, with 1,000 kroner - roughly equivalent to £93 - the largest denomination available in Swedish currency.

Five Kenyan School Girls to Represent Africa at Google's Technovation Challenge

The five Kenyan school girls, aged 15 to 17, are the only Africans selected to take part in this year's international Technovation competition. The young girls developed an App to end female genital mutilation.
One of them is quoted by Thomson Reuters Foundation as saying that "FGM is a big problem affecting girls worldwide and it is a problem we want to solve". Stacy continued that "This whole experience will change our lives. Whether we win or not, our perspective of the world and the possibilities it has will change for the better."  According Reuters, the five girls are from Kenya's western city of Kisumu call themselves the 'Restorers' because they want to "restore hope to hopeless girls", said Synthia Otieno, one of the team.
Reports say almost one in four Kenyan women and girls have undergone FGM, which involves the partial or total removal of the external genitalia, even though it is illegal in the East African nation.
Although the girls' Luo community does not practice FGM, they have friends who have been cut.
"We were very close but after she was cut she never came back to school," said Purity Achieng, describing a classmate who underwent FGM. "She was among the smartest girls I knew."
I-cut connects girls at risk of FGM with rescue centres and gives legal and medical help to those who have been cut.
Its simple interface has five buttons - help, rescue, report, information on FGM, donate and feedback – offering users different services.
Kenya is one of the most technologically advanced countries in Africa, known for its pioneering mobile money transfer apps.
Technovation, which is sponsored by Google, Verizon and the United Nations, aims to teach girls the skills they need to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders.

July 27 (UPI) -- Titanic stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Billy Zane reunited this week ahead of the film's 20th anniversary.
DiCaprio, 42, hosted Winslet, 41, and Zane, 51, at his annual Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation dinner Wednesday in St. Tropez, France, which raised funds for environmental causes.
"Gangs back together," Zane captioned a photo on Instagram of himself with his former co-stars. "Now we're saving icebergs. Go figure.."
People reported prior to the event that DiCaprio and Winslet would auction off a private dinner with the two of them at the gala. The winning bidder will dine with the stars in October or November at a place of their choosing in New York.
DiCaprio and Winslet played ill-fated lovers Jack Dawson and Rose Bukater in Titanic, with Zane as Rose's villainous fiancé, Cal Hockley. Zane said in a 2016 interview with Today that he wishes Rose and Cal had stayed together in the film.
"He was a little misunderstood," the actor said of his character. "I wasn't the iceberg. I did not drown 2,000 people. I got off the boat."
"Yes, [I think Rose made the wrong choice]," he added. "I think he found redemption by the end. I wish he had found her on the Carpathia and was able to right his wrongs."

Quincy Jones Wins $9.42M in Royalties Dispute with Michael Jackson's Estate

July 27 (UPI) -- Music producer Quincy Jones was awarded $9.4 million in damages Wednesday in a dispute over unpaid royalties with the estate of Michael Jackson.
A Los Angeles jury sided with Jones who took Jackson's estate to court for underpaid royalties stemming from Jackson concert film This Is It and two Cirque du Soleil shows that used the pop icon's music following his death in 2009, Variety reported.
Jones sought $30 million in damages when he sued the estate in 2013 stating that he was unfairly cut out of posthumous deals made for the film and Cirque du Soleil shows. The estate countered that he was only due $392,000 due to minor accounting errors.
"This lawsuit was never about Michael," Jones said a statement, The New York Times reported. "It was about protecting the integrity of the work we all did in the recording studio and the legacy of what we created."
"I view it not only as a victory for myself personally, but for artists' rights overall," he added.
"Any amount above and beyond what is called for in his contracts is too much and unfair to Michael's heirs," Jackson estate lawyer Howard Weitzman said following the verdict.
Jones collaborated with Jackson and produced three of his most successful albums, Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad.

Falling Sperm Counts Could Lead To End Of Human Race - New Study Reveals

A new study has made a controversial claim that failing sperm counts could effectively lead to the end of the human race.

A major study has found that sperm counts of Western men are at a ‘shocking’ record low that it now poses a potential threat to fertility in industrialised countries.
There has been a 59.3 per cent drop in sperm produced by men from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand between 1973 and 2011.
One possible cause of the decline, which shows no sign of slowing, is environmental chemicals.
Study co-leader, Dr. Hagai Levine, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, said the findings were ‘an urgent wake-up call.’
Levine said, “Eventually, we may have a problem, and with reproduction in general, and it may be the extinction of the human species.”
Professor Daniel Brison, of the department of reproductive medicine at Manchester University, said “the extent of the decline in this study is shocking.”
Other fertility experts warned of a “double whammy” caused by falling sperm counts and women waiting until their 30s to get pregnant.
The study, published in the journal Human Reproduction Update, found no similar decline in South America, Asia and Africa.
Co-author, Prof. Shanna Swan, from New York’s Icahn School of Medicine, said: “The fact that the decline is seen in Western countries strongly suggests that chemicals in commerce are playing a causal role.”
Exposure to chemicals in the womb, adult exposure to pesticides, smoking, stress and obesity have all been linked to falling sperm counts.

Football Transsfer: Doubts over Neymar Moving to PSG in France

Reports have it that Barcelona players are currently talking with Brazilian superstar, Neymar to discourage his move to the French giants.

Neymar

Gerard Pique has sparked panic at Barcelona after appearing to backtrack on his ‘he stays’ tweet on teammate Neymar, target of a blockbuster transfer by Paris Saint Germain.
“Doubts, doubts and more doubts,” ran the headline Wednesday on the front page of Catalan daily Sport above a photo of the striker lost deep in thought.
PSG are trying to lure the 25-year-old Brazilian to France and are ready to pay off his 222 million euro ($256.8 million) release clause and make the player the best-paid footballer on the planet.
Last week Pique took to social media to say “he’s staying” – but when pressed on the matter Tuesday ahead of a pre-season friendly in the United States against Manchester United he was less sure of himself.
“It’s a personal opinion from the conversation that I had with him and my intuition,” Pique said.
“But it’s not official,” he added. “And it’s not for me to say if he’s going to stay or not.”
The position sent a shudder down the spine at Barcelona.“Pique retracts and feeds the uncertainty,” the newspaper Sport said. “The situation is eroding confidence at the club,” columnist Tomas Andreu wrote in Sport.
“What really hurts here is the silence of the player himself, which in the end says a great deal.”
Neymar departed the stadium without addressing reporters after starring in a 2-1 win over Juventus on Saturday.
“They (the club) did not expect the negotiations with PSG and the player to go this far,” he said.
At the same press conference, the Argentine defender Javier Mascherano said he had told Neymar to carefully weigh up the pros and cons.
Mascherano added all the players, including Lionel Messi, had spoken the player to ask him to stay.

What You Need to Know About this Woman Who Has Lived All Alone For The Past 40 Years In One of the World's Most Remote Islands

A woman has been found out to have lived in one of the world's mot remote islands all alone by herself for the past 40 years.

Zoe Lucas has lived all alone by herself

Zoe Lucas is a 67-year-old woman who has lived alone on a remote island for 40 years.
However, she insists she never gets lonely – as long as she’s got her binoculars to hand to admire its stunning wildlife.
According to The Sun UK, Zoe Lucas lives in a wooden-clad house on Sable Island off the coast of Canada, which is covered in fog for around 127 days of the year.
But despite that, Zoe feels perfectly at home in the peace and quiet – with 400 horses, 300,000 grey seals and 350 species of bird to keep her company on the 26-mile island.

The woman lives in this wooden building on the island

She first fell in love with Sable Island when visiting as a 21-year-old student in 1971 and soon made it her home.
Speaking to MailOnline Travel, Zoe said: “I squawked and squawked, I wanted to come so bad. I originally came out here for the horses.”
Now a citizen scientist, the 67-year-old rarely returns to her hometown of Halifax in Nova Scotia – and instead depends on supplies being flown in on a weekly basis.
There is no way to reach the island, other than by boat or charter plane.

It earned the nickname “graveyard of the Atlantic” after more than 300 shipwrecks.

During her four decades living on the island, a refrigerator, crateful of fresh peppers from a shipping container, popped balloon carcasses and even a fake LEG has washed up on the beach.
Zoe spends her days studying ecology and collecting horses’ skulls so that scientists can discover how the animals have been able to adapt to the island’s stark landscape.
In 2013 Sable Island was made a National Park Reserve on June 20, 2013.

Nigerian Youths Can Now Contest for Presidency as Senate Reduces Age of Office of President, Governor, Others

A total of 86 Nigerian Senators have voted and passed the bill which seeks age reduction for elective offices in Nigeria.

The members of the Senator Bukola Saraki-led Nigerian Senate have on Wednesday, July 26, passed a bill which proposed a 35-years as the minimum age for the office of the president from the initial 40-years mandated by the 1999 constitution.
The lawmakers also moved a motion to encourage Nigerian youths to contest for the post of Governor or Senator at the age of 30, away from the initial 35years limit mandated by the 1999 constitution.
TORI News also gathered that the bill goes on to stipulate that 25-year-olds can now legislate in the National and State Houses of Assemblies in Nigeria.

The amendments were made during the debate on report for constitution review which had been earlier adopted by the joint session of the committees of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
NOTE: For the new bill to take effect, it needs the endorsement of 24 state assemblies and President Muhamamdu Buhari's assent.
Senate's approval is just one of the steps required to amend the constitution.
We'll be bringing you more details later.

Nigerian Pastor Makes Baffling Prophecies, Says Buhari Will Lose Battle, Osinbajo Sworn-in as President and Atiku Will Win 2019 Election

A Nigerian pastor has made shocking revelations of what will happen in the near future for Nigeria as the President's health crisis lingers.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo
The General overseer of King of Kings Deliverance Ministry, Prophet Emmanuel Chukwudi has prophesied that ailing President Muhammadu Buhari will not return to Nigeria as the President.
He further noted that Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will be sworn-in as President amid fierce opposition. The Prophet added that the 2019 will be won by the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
He made the prophesies while being conferred with a new title by his kinsmen, according to a report by DailyPost.
“I saw Buhari saying that he is no more in charge. Then I saw Osinbajo being sworn in. But the opposition is just too much. He can only last till 2019.
"He should battle very well not to be removed from office before then. This is not the first time I am saying that Buhari will not pilot Nigeria into 2019, and this is not the first time I am being shown Atiku as the next president.
"It’s over three years now that Atiku was first revealed to me.
“Buhari has handed over power spiritually to Osinbajo. He cannot return to power, in case anyone is expecting him”, the Prophet said.

AFCON 2019: SDF MP Writes to President Biya, Expresses the Urgency in Including Bamenda as Host City

SDF Member of Parliament for Bamenda / Bali Constituency has expressed disgust over the fact that Bamenda has not been selected among the cities to host AFCON 2019. Hon. Fobi Nchinda Simon expressed the Bamenda man's worries in a  open letter to the Head of state, President Paul Biya in which he outlined some pertinent issues .
HERE BELOW IS THE LETTER

OPEN LETTER: To H.E. Paul Biya, President of The Republic of Cameroon
Subject: Urgency in Including Bamenda in Hosting The AFCON 2019

Your Excellency,

I am the MP for the Bamenda/Bali Constituency. It might be needless to state here that it is the largest constituency in the entire country. However, it suffices to remind you that according to demographic statistics, Bamenda is the third largest city in Cameroon after Douala and Yaounde and is one of the fastest growing town in the Republic.
Under your auspices, the government has chosen Yaounde, Douala, Bafoussam, Garoau and Limbe as the towns to host the African Nations Cup in 2019. Bamenda, the chief town of the Northwest region was inexplicably left out as one of the towns to host matches or training sessions of the teams that will participate in AFCON 2019. When Cameroon won the bid to host the AFCON 2019, the entire nation including Bamenda was in euphoria. But this euphoria has dissipated as Bamenda has been side-lined in the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructures for the competition. Does it mean that the denizens of Bamenda in particular and the North West region in general are not Cameroonians, who equally have the right to the entertainment and the joy of the AFCON 2019 festival with its attendant socio-economic fallouts?
Your Minister of Sports and Physical Education granted a press conference the other day to outline the infrastructures the government has earmarked for AFCON 2019. He said the African Football Confederation, CAF, requires 32 stadia for the competition. From the statistics he presented, none of the stadia or training grounds is in the NW region. Meanwhile, Yaoundé and other cities are having two stadia. Why is Bamenda side-lined? Is it still the continuous marginalisation of the Anglophones?
I know Bamenda has no road linking it to the other cities in Cameroon. If your government’s promises are anything to go by, then by 2019, a decent road will link Bamenda to the other major cities of Cameroon. Equally, the Bamenda airport is now operational and the transportation of teams to Bamenda can no longer pose problems.
If the neglect of Bamenda by your government was an oversight, then CAF has given you an opportunity to right the wrong done to Bamenda. Instead of 16 teams, the competition will now have 24 teams. It is therefore urgent and necessary for the organising committee to add Bamenda as one of the sites to host the AFCON 2019. In addition, CAF has shifted the competition from January 2019 to June 2019 thus, giving you ample time to construct a stadium and ancillary facilities in Bamenda.
Football remains a unifying factor in Cameroon. It will be an unpardonable act for the government to side-line Bamenda, an act which can be wrongly interpreted by the population and which can further polarised the nation. Bamenda has been and is home of some major football clubs in Cameroon and it does not augur well to deprive the city of basic football infrastructure.
Your Excellency, I am counting on your fast and effective decision to include Bamenda among the towns to host the AFCON 2019.
I remain sincerely yours,
Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon
MP Bamenda/Bali Constituency

Britain to Start Taking Gas, Diesel Vehicles Off Roads in 2040

July 26 (UPI) -- For environmental reasons, Britain will ban all new gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles from its roads beginning in 23 years, a government report says.
The plan, expected Wednesday, aims to start removing gasoline and diesel engines in 2040. It follows a similar declaration in France and comes after the British government was ordered by courts to develop new plans to reduce nitrogen dioxide in the air.
Judges ruled that prior clean-air plans were inadequate to meet European Union pollution limits in coming years.
Britain's government has said the poor air quality has an unnecessary and avoidable negative impact on citizens' health, and costs up to $3.5 billion in annual lost productivity.
Part of the new plan involves an offer of $260 million to local governments to change rules where vehicle emissions surpass EU thresholds. Ideas so far include changing road layouts, reprogramming traffic lights and imposing charges on the oldest and most polluting cars on the road.
The plan also includes $1.3 billion for government purchase of ultra-low emissions vehicles, nearly $130 million to improve infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations and $378 million for retrofitting existing vehicles.
Climate change is also a reason for the plan to get gas vehicles off the road.
"We can't carry on with diesel and petrol cars," Environment Secretary Michael Gove said. "It's important we all gear up for a significant change which deals not just with the problems to health caused by emissions, but the broader problems caused in terms of accelerating climate change."
Gove added that some of the onus rested on local communities to come up with ways to limit emissions, including possible prohibitions on commuters and the addition of cleaner mass transit options. Local leaders are called on to draw up "appropriate plans" to deal with climate challenges related to emissions, he said.
Energy consultant group Wood Mackenzie said that it estimated about 10 percent of the passenger vehicles on British roads will be electric by 2035, leaving more than 30 million conventional vehicles still in service.
Apart from what he said are the "massive" investments required to build new infrastructure, Alan Gelder, the group's senior vice president for refinery and chemicals research, said the strain on the grid would be significant.
"If, in 2035, 5 percent of the EV fleet were to charge at the same time, the load on the grid could soar by up to 40 gigawatts," he said in an emailed statement.
Though the measure could lead to dramatic cuts in fuel consumption, the measure does little to address the oil demand from airlines and commercial vehicles, he added.
French Environmental Minister Nicolas Hulot said in early July the country would end the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2040 and become carbon neutral by 2050 as part of its efforts to address the goals in the international Paris climate agreement.
Swedish automaker Volvo around the same time said it was marking an end to the era where its consumer fleet has vehicles powered only by the internal combustion engine. All vehicles launched from 2019 will have an electric motor.
In June, parties to an effort steered in part by the International Energy Agency set a goal of 30 percent new electrical vehicle sales by 2030.

Kenyan President Refuses to Appear for Election Debate

The much-publicized election debate in Kenya has ended on a sad note after the President of the country refused to appear for the debate.
President Uhuru Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Kenya on Monday night failed to show up for a debate, leaving opposition presidential candidate Raila Odinga to fielded questions alone on stage.
Odinga, who is the flagbearer for the National Super Alliance coalition, said his top priorities if elected in the Aug. 8 general election would be to lower food prices and rent.
He also promised to tackle youth unemployment.
“First is the issue of putting food on the table, reducing the cost of living for the people. This is our priority number one.
“We address the issues of flour, so that we can lower the prices of maize flour, sugar,” he said.
He said to lower rent he would enforce the existing rent restrictions act. “This law is meant to protect the poor from exploitation by the landlords,” Odinga said.
The office of Kenyatta, who is running for a second and final five-year term in office, gave no explanation for his absence. On Sunday, he answered questions online and pledged to create 6.5 million jobs in the next five years if elected.
Odinga said his administration would continue to invest in infrastructure, education and training, small businesses and a high-tech economy.
Kenyans are also due to choose on Aug. 8 legislators and local representatives for the first time since 2013, when the elections passed peacefully after the opposition challenged the results in court.
The presidential television debate is the second ever held in the country after a similar one in 2013. A separate debate was held earlier in the evening among three other candidates and three more who did not show up. The debate organisers said the earlier debate was for candidates who polled 5 percent or less in two national opinion polls.
According to polling firm IPSOS, Kenyatta and Odinga are likely to take about 90 per cent of the vote, while none of the six independent presidential candidates is polling above one per cent.
Opinion polls show the gap between Odinga and Kenyatta has closed.
Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has also promised to provide free, quality primary healthcare for all Kenyans; free secondary education; affordable housing and connect every citizen to the electricity grid by 2020.
The opposition coalition National Super Alliance manifesto also promises to reform the public sector, set up a universal health service fund and tackle corruption.

8 Things You Do That Makes Mosquitoes Bite You.

Have you been battling with mosquito bite for a long time now? Here are 8 things you need to consider to stop the problem.
Mosquito (File photo)
There is nothing quite as irritating as a mosquito bite. These little flies just can't resist the taste of your blood. A small bite is only likely to irritate you for a day or so but mosquitoes are known to carry diseases such as malaria, Zika and yellow fever.
Unless you have some super strength spray, there is little you can do to protect your self against them, or so you thought.
New research has revealed that mosquitoes prey on their victims thanks to a number of factors and may alter depending on which species of mosquito live near you.
However, why they prey on blood isn't fully understood and these results are only theories.
Business Insider have published the findings which might suggest why mosquitos find your blood so irresistible and how you might be able to reduce your allure.

1. Carbon dioxide
This one is quite hard to avoid as your body naturally produces around 2.3 pounds of carbon dioxide a day, which is breathed out through your lungs.
We all need to breathe, so don't think about holding your breath all day just to avoid a few mosquitoes.
However, mosquitoes tend to prefer people who emit more than the standard levels of carbon dioxide.
This is common amongst pregnant women and overweight people.

2. Lactic Acid
This won't be good news for athletic types out there.
Mosquitoes love the lactic acid that your body produces whilst working out.
The acid is released via your sweat, making you a prime target, especially if you are hot and tired.
Exercise is obviously important but perhaps going for a jog near a lake or wetlands isn't advisable.

3. Beer
This news will be very disappointing for anyone who enjoys the occasional pint.
Some studies have discovered that mosquitoes are attracted to beer drinkers.
The Conversation points out that this is only relevant to one type of mosquito so you might not have to worry too much.
It's good news for you sober individuals out there who don't have to worry either way.

4. Type O Blood
Changing your blood isn't advisable but if you have Type O blood running through your veins try to remain vigilant.
Research posted by the Journal of Medical Entomology found that mosquitoes were 83.3 percent more likely to land on type O carriers than type A carriers.
However, as with beer drinkers this line of thinking only appears to apply to one particular species of mosquito.

5. Genes
There is also the belief that mosquitos could be attracted to you because of your genetic make-up.
Something in your DNA, passed down over generations could be behind mosquitoes fondness for you.
An indicator of this could be if you have a bad reaction to a bite, such as the size of the bite or the intensity of the itchiness.
23 and Me report that people with similar genetics often shared these symptoms after being bitten.

6. Bacteria
Here's some good news. If you have lots of different bacteria on your skin, mosquitos will be less attracted to you.
Although it might not seem particularly hygienic, the chemicals that build up your natural smell could act as a deterrent.
A study posted on Plos showed that a group of people with a more diverse colony of bacteria were less likely to attract mosquitoes, than those with less.
If you were to go down this route, you might not smell very nice, but at least you wouldn't be bitten.

7. Pregnancy
In 2003, an experiment was conducted in eastern Sudan to see if mosquitos were more attracted to pregnant women than non-pregnant women.
The results, published on NCBI found out of the 18 women, the nine pregnant women attracted significantly more mosquitoes, especially ones that were carrying malaria.
This could be because of raised temperature and how women's body odour changes during pregnancy, according to the Daily Mail.
However, as with beer and type O blood, only one species of mosquito is attracted to pregnant women.
Even so, if you are pregnant and live in an area with malaria carrying mosquitoes a bed net should always be used when sleeping.

8. Gender
Interestingly, only female mosquitoes bite as the nutritional value of blood helps develop their eggs. They also seem to prefer to bite more men, but women are more badly affected by a bite.
Females reportedly get bigger and itchy bites but men are more likely to be attacked.
The New York Times report that due to men mostly having a larger body size, they are more likely to attract mosquitoes.

Court Acquits Man Who Named His Dog After Head of State

The man who named his dog after President Buhari - his alleged hero, has been freed by the court after being apprehended by the Nigerian police for constituting public nuisance.

Joachim Iroko and his lawyer, Inibehe Effiong
A magistrate court in Sango-Ota, Ogun state has struck out a case against Mr Joachim Iroko, who was arrested for naming his dog after Nigeria's president, Muhammadu Buhari.
Iroko was arrested by the Nigerian police force in 2016 for "conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace", detained and has been in and out of court since.
His lawyers, Inibehe Effiong and Niyi Fadile secured his release today after the case was struck out by the court for want of "diligent prosecution".

Below is a press statement made available to PoliticsNGR by Iroko's lawyer;

I was at the Sango Ota Chief Magistrate Court in Ogun State this morning with Mr Fadile Niyi, a lawyer in the law firm of my learned senior, Mr Ebun-olu Adegboruwa for the case of Mr Joachim Iroko.
Iroko came to prominence in 2016 after he was arrested, detained and charged to court by the Nigeria Police Force for "conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace" for naming his dog 'Buhari'.
Following the serial failure by the prosecution to present its witnesses and the continued absence of the nominal complainant who had claimed that Iroko named his dog 'Buhari', after his father, we applied for the case to be struck out by the Court for want of diligent prosecution.

The Magistrate, O. O. Adebo, granted our application and the case was accordingly struck-out and Mr Iroko walked home a free man.
I had argued from the outset that the Nigeria Police did not have any case against Iroko and that there was no legal basis to arrest, detain and prosecute the poor trader over an alleged conduct that did not harm and could not have injured anybody. There was nothing like an attempt to cause a breach of peace ab initio.

I want to specially commend Mr Adegboruwa for leading lawyers in defence of Mr Iroko pro bono. I appreciate Messrs Fadile Niyi and Tosin Adesioye from the chambers of Adegboruwa & Co., Mr Adeola Samuel Opeyemi and Mr Vincent Obetta who were all part of the defence team which I am proud to have been part of.
I want to also appreciate the media for their conscientious coverage of this case and all Nigerians who had expressed support in one form or the other for Mr Iroko.

When the incident happened in August 2016, I responded by leading a campaign for the freedom of Iroko. That this case has ended this way is a victory for justice and a boost to the image of the Nigerian Judiciary as the last hope of the oppressed and the common man.
We hope that the Nigeria Police and their instigators will now allow reason to prevail. But if they wish to resurrect this case, we shall meet them again in court.
