HOFNA, YALI Fellows Call on Youths to Value and to Get Engage in Service

Looking up to Mandela as the Role Model

Hope for the Needy Association- HOFNA Cameroon has made a clarion call for young people to value and engage in service.  Harping on the Mandela model during Mandela Day celebration in Bamenda last July 12, 2018 the Founder and Executive Director of HOFNA Cameroon Christelle Bay who was flanked by Mandela Washington said “This day is particularly important this year because it should have been Mandela’s 100th birthday.
The Bamenda mixed boys and girls football tournament that greased the event was described by impressionists as one of the best tools in behavioral change for youths. This was the first time that both boys/girls played a football match in front of many and it was innovative. The YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative) Network also used the occasion to call on YALI members to do something to leave their own legacy, to emulate Mandela’s life. To  Christelle Bay “we choose this day to bring the young people together; we decided to celebrate it in our own way; we call it the YALI-selves event promoting service; we brought adolescents together..”
The Nelson Mandela International Day 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela. The Centenary according to the UN Secretary General Antonio Gueteres provided an occasion to reflect on his life and legacy, and to follow his call to "make of the world a better place." Mandela the UN notes “embodied the highest values of the United Nations. One hundred years after his birth, Mandela’s example of courage and compassion continue to inspire the world.”
The
Nelson Mandela Foundation dedicated this year's Mandela Day to Action Against Poverty, honouring Mandela's leadership and devotion to fighting poverty and promoting social justice for all.

After Brilliant Performance at World Cup, Mbappe Gets New Jersey Number At PSG

Mbappe will be taking up the shirt number left behind by Lucas Moura who left the club for North London club, Tottenham Hotspur.

Kylian Mbappe

France international, Kylian Mbappe has been given a new jersey number at Paris Saints-Germain, PSG.

Mbappe will now wear the No.7 shirt for PSG for the 2018-19 season. The forward switched from his previous number, 29, which he had worn since joining the club from Monaco last year, ahead of the new campaign.

The 19-year-old now takes up the No.7 jersey vacated by Lucas Moura upon his move to Tottenham last season. Mbappe inspired France to win the 2018 World Cup in Russia this summer. He scored a goal in their 4-2 victory over Croatia in the final.

“I thought for a long time that the number was not important, it was only on the pitch that it mattered but it is an indication of your ambitions, the player you want to be,” Mbappe told the club’s website.

“I will try to continue my progress on the field and I think for me it was the right time to change number, I think it’s a kind of affirmation,” Mbappe told the club’s website.

“Number 7 is a legendary number, many great players who have worn it. I hope I could do credit in the field with this number.

“I will continue to work to continue my progress and see where it leads me but, with a number like this, we start well!

“I came to Paris Saint-Germain to leave my mark, there is a beautiful story to write and this is just the beginning.

“We are here again for good years and I hope that we will be able to do great things together.”

Ladies, Here are 13 Important Reasons Why 'You're Still Single'

Are you one of the people who have remained single for such a long time that you start to think that the universe is out to get you or the terrestrial forces from your village put a target on their forehead? You'd find this article very helpful.

Here are the 13 likely reasons why you are still single:

1. You fear being vulnerable

People often fear what they don’t know and try to protect themselves from situations where they become dependent on someone else either for their happiness or something else. People fear getting hurt, but the only trick or solution to this is to find the right person to be vulnerable with.

2. You’re stuck in a “Situation-ship”

Like the modern day relationship tagged “Friends with benefits”(FWB), most people these days like to avoid the responsibilities that comes with being in a relationship so they just prefer to have their sexual needs met without being emotionally attached.

Getting out of this type of relationship gets tough when one party gets emotionally attached. The only way out of this is having a discussion about what you both want and if it doesn’t match your needs, take a further step to end it and move on.

3. You’re stuck on an ex

Moving on from a loved one can prove tough but, no matter how cliche it may seem, you have to go out and meet new people. Some breakups can leave you confused and have you questioning your awesomeness. But give yourself another chance to love and stop pushing away people who make an attempt.

4. You believe in “e-romance”

Although it may seem easier and they may meet your attachment needs, online romances aren’t always the real deal and are often not good enough.

5. You’re looking for “the one”

Most people think there is only one ideal partner meant for them in the entire universe and they limit themselves to finding the perfect one without giving any other person a chance. We suggest that you correct your mindset, choose someone, and then allow them to get closer to you.

6. You limit yourself with standards

People often focus on certain criteria like “must have a college degree,” “must live within this distance” “must be this age” “must drive this car” “must be 6ft tall” etc, but while its always good to have a standard, learn not to limit yourself to types and get carried away as someone could possess all of your superficial criteria, and still be a wrong for you or not be even remotely attracted to you.

7. You don’t know what you want

People often like to lament on how they are single and haven’t met anyone, but when asked what exactly they want or need from a partner they go blank. Deciding what you really want in a partner gets you 50% ahead of your search.

If you’re really ready to be serious, you’ll have to be very expressive with your words and stop saying things like “lets see how things go”, “I’m not sure what i want right now”,etc.

8. You’re impatient and settle too easily

You hear of people starting a new relationship just after breaking up with another person. Although some people use this as a coping mechanism, it mostly never works as they just always try to fill a void.

After a break up, allow yourself be sad and cry if you want, express your emotions instead of bottling it up then when you feel you’ve moved on then you can begin a new relationship

9. You Play Hard to Get

While it may seem like fun to take your time and play the hardball game, there is really no point in making a person to keep trying if you don’t share the same feelings. Once you realize there is no possible chance to have a serious relationship with a person, let this person know so you both can move on to other people.

10. You Think You Should Wait.

These days you hear guys say they are waiting to have money before they get into a relationship and other excuses from ladies on wy they would rather wait.
The truth remains that you can find that special someone and improve while you’re with them.

11. You Think Good Mates Are Scarce

The fact that you have met some bad eggs doesn’t mean everyone is out to disappoint you.Sitting back and hoping the right one finds you isn’t the way to go as you’ll only be setting yourself up for disappointment so just go out there and date.

12. You can’t express yourself

Hard to believe as it may seem, maybe due to social awkwardness or other reasons, some people find it hard or don’t know hot to express themselves and lose out experiencing beautiful relationships. Learn to express your feelings even if its reciprocated or not.

13. You don’t put yourself out there

As the popular internet slang says “shoot your shot”, we now see people taking chances to meet new people they fancy by asking them out on several platforms.

Note that if you wait for fate to drop Mr/Mrs. Right on your laps then you’re up for a disappointment as in this case, you have to take the bull by the horn. Also don’t shy away from social events, who know who you may meet.

Davido's Security Punches Reporter-CPJ

Nigerian musician Davido should hold accountable those responsible for the assault of Adekanmbi Damilola, CEO of the online entertainment news platform NoStoryTV, by a member of his private security team and ensure journalists can safely cover his events, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today.
Damilola, who also reports for the Lagos-based NoStoryTV, told CPJ he was punched in the face by a security guard working for Davido Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, outside the artists' tent during a July 21 concert in Nigeria's southwestern Ibadan city.
The journalist told CPJ that he approached Davido's security guard to request an interview with the musician and the guard told Damilola that cameras, which Damilola had with him, were not allowed inside. Damilola said he dropped off the camera and returned to request access again. The bouncer then punched Damilola, according to the journalist and Oduwole Tobi, the editor-in-chief of entertainment news outlet Cold Magazine who goes by "Brown."
Tobi, who said he saw the altercation and wrote about it on Instagram, told CPJ that the security guard punched Damilola on the ground for two or three minutes. CPJ was unable to verify independently the duration of the assault on Damilola.
Video footage later appeared on an Instagram account called instablog9ja that showed Damilola lying disheveled on his back wearing a NoStoryTV shirt with blood on his face. Tobi denied posting the video and Damilola also told CPJ he did not know who posted the video.
The journalist said he remembers being punched and then woke up in Ibadan's University College Hospital. Damilola told CPJ on July 25 that his eyes were swollen after being punched and he still had pain in his teeth and gums.
The journalist said he did not file a police report about the incident because he does not live in Ibadan and left after he was released from the hospital.
"Violence against journalists under any circumstances is totally unacceptable," Angela Quintal, CPJ's Africa program coordinator, said from Harare. "Davido and his team must act to ensure press covering their events are able to do their work without fear of assault."
Damilola's drone, which he was carrying at the time of the attack and which had a camera attached to it, was also damaged in the altercation, according to the journalist and a July 24 post on NoStoryTV's Instagram.
Damilola said that prior to Davido's arrival he had already conducted several interviews with other artists in the musicians' tent, also referred to as the green room, and that he and four other NoStoryTV team members were given access tags that allowed them into the artists' area.
Rotimi Ige Roy, media director of Ibadan Countdown, the entertainment company that helped organize and host the Ibadan concert, told CPJ on July 26 and 27 that the tags given to the NoStoryTV team only granted them official access to the VIP area and the stage, not the green room, and denied that Damilola's equipment was damaged.
Roy said that he did not see the altercation directly, though "people around him" said that Davido's guard punched Damilola in response to a first punch thrown by the journalist and that the guard did not continuously punch the journalist. The media director also said that he transported Damilola to the hospital.
A statement from Ibadan Countdown, published by the privately owned Nigerian newspaper Punch on July 24, denied claims that a reporter was "manhandled by security operatives" at the concert and claimed the reports of violence were a "calculated attempt to bring the event into disrepute."
CPJ's efforts to contact Davido and members of his team-- including emails to the addresses listed on his website's contact page, direct messages to Davido Adeleke's personal Instagram account and the Instagram account of sirbanko, president of the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) company, and calls to the number listed on the website of Davido's record label, HKN Music-- received no response.
