78 Years Old Man Commits Suicide After Wife Denies Him Food

Mbamu Elias, 78 yrs old of Ako in Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region of Cameroon is reported to have committed suicide after his wife refused giving him food. The story goes that Pa Mbamu Elias returned home and requested for his food. After waiting for more than 20 minutes and nothing was served, he decided to asked for it himself. When he asked the wife whether there was anything for him to eat, the wife responded that there was nothing. Considering the fact that a hungry man is an angry man, he immediately engaged into a quarrel with his wife.  Neighbours say they overhead Pa Mbamu shouting that the poor treatment from his wife is too much for him to bear. For over an hour or so, the old man and the wife were engaged in a war of war. This as we gathered ended up as the last verbal confrontation between the couple as he decided to quit the world by committing suicide.

Shock and consternation is said to have gripped Ako when news spread that Pa Mimba Elias died by hanging. Friends with whom he drank palm wine that day could not believe the piece of information but were taken aback when they saw his corpse. Pa Mbamu’s family is reported in agony as suicide is considered a sacrilege in Mbembe land.
