An industrial company to process and market electricity poles has been revamped to kick-start activities in the North West Region. The company which is known by its acronym as SITEP-CAM Company LTD was revamped and launched on Saturday 19, 2016. Speaking during the Board of Directors meeting at the Akom Fon's palace, Chief Executive Officer, Clement Wara said SITEP CAM is on track to make a significant contribution to accompany Cameroon towards emergence by 2035. Described by many as a perfect example of the industrialization of the North West Region this Industrial Enterprise for the Processing of Electricity Poles (SITEP-CAM) Limited, happens to be the first giant project the region has had. According to Hon TATISTANG Lucas chairman of the official launching, SITEP-CAM after two decades of obstacles and struggle since it creation on the 1st of March, 1996 has recorded new dynamics and will produce the expected results to boost development efforts in the region and beyond.
The enterprise has as objective to mitigate poverty as it is not limited only within a particular Division. Its officials say the poles to be treated and marketed will be bought from peasants. This will be an additional source of revenue to eucalyptus farmers in the North West and the West Region. While a percentage of the profit made from by company will be used for the socio-economic development of council areas where these poles are produced. Council areas like Oku, Ndu, Jakiri as well as the Akum Fondom in Santa Subdivision that signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SITEP-CAM CEO, Wara Clement will in the days ahead start enjoying the fall-outs of the project. Representing the people of Akum HRH Fon George NGWASHI who doubles as Landlord of the project site at Mille 11 Santa enjoined SITEP-CAM officials for the great initiative that will go a long way to impact lives.
Clement Wara also disclosed that SITEP-CAM has benefit trust from both national and International investors. These partners that are looking towards doing business with SITEP-CAM according to Clement Awara include the National Investment Cooperation, the World Bank Group, The International Finance Cooperation etc.
To add to this, SITEP-CAM is looking forward to employing more youths and as well fighting global warming by planting 500,000 species of improved tree seedlings such as ; medicinal plants, fruit tress, and has adopted the policy of re_afforestation geared towards replacing each tree cut by planting two others.
Present at the official launching were Administrative Authorities, Fons and Board Members who however made the people to understand that development is not an easy task. Fon George NGWASHI also used the opportunity to call on the people of Akum to be vigilant and to shy away from destructive tendencies. "It is obvious that development is like a year old baby and the quinine tablet which must be forced down her throat for the betterment of her health", he concluded. Before leaving Akum, Board members agreed that the next meeting shall take place in March next year.
It should be recalled that there are two companies in the North West Region that is engaged in the treatment and marketing of electricity poles. One of such companies is CAMITEX located at Nkwen in Bamenda. With the processing plant in Mile 11 Akum having revamped, prospects are high at that the industrialization of the North West Region has begun.
