Speaking while commissioning a zonal office of the EFCC in Kaduna on Thursday, the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, said that nobody can remove Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The acting president who was represented by the Governor of Kaduna,  Nasir el-Rufai, described Magu as a “nightmare for corrupt people”.
He said; “We have confidence in Magu to fight corruption to a standstill. He will remain the EFCC chairman as long as I remain the acting president and as well as Muhammadu Buhari remains the president.
“It is our belief that Magu will continue to remain a nightmare for corrupt people for years to come.”
Osinbajo made the bold statement as Nigerian Senators on Tuesday, criticised the acting president Yemi Osinbajo for allegedly questioning their constitutional authority to confirm the nomination of appointees by the executive arm.
The Senators had expressed concern about the refusal of the executive to drop Ibrahim Magu as the acting chairman of the EFCC after his nomination was rejected twice by the upper legislative chamber.
At the resumed plenary after the Eid-el-Fitr holidays, Senate President Bukola Saraki backed a series of resolutions by senators against the executive, including one that demanded an immediate retraction of Osinbajo’s comment, which some of them said was antithetical to a democratic system.
