There was euphoria and fanfare at Kungi on
August 30, 2017 where a crowd of over 5.000 people gathered to support Ndinjo
Stanley Awudu’s efforts to promote football development in Mbumland. Vuvuzelas
trumpeted high echoing into the eucalyptus forests of Nkambe, Binju while the
drumming and singing also echoed into the small low lands of Ngotong and Mamba.
A football tournament for both men and women worth FCFA 500.000 FCFA described
as the first of its kind in Kungi village was what had brought together the
crowd. It was a unique moment for young talented footballers in Mbumland to
portray their skills in order to convince the
population whether Mbumland could ever dream of a 2nd Division
football team.
The
tournament which has been described by football lovers and observers as a
unifying tool entered into records as the biggest crowd pulling occasion ever
witnessed in Kungi village this year. In fact it was a moment of merry making
and for those who have never had the opportunity to express their gratitude to
Ndinjo Stanley Awudu’s endeavours in promoting youth activities to do it in
songs.

Stanley Awudu: Promoter of youth talent |
The Young Humanitarians FC emerged victorious
while in the female category Njikwa FC beat Mona FC 4 goals to 3 after post
penalty to grab the trophy. Before handing the trophy to the winners, Shey
Wilfred Mbeh (Representing cup donor) applauded the youths of Kungi for their
dynamism during the tournament. He said Stanley has
a soft spot in promoting youth activities, he cited the Wimbum Talent Show and
Xmas Football Tournament whose Finals last was played for two days. He told the
population that Stanley asked him to transmit to them a message of peace and
love. And that the reason for the tournament is to build and encourage young
Talents. On the other hand, Samba Kinsley, coordinator of the tournament told
the youths that football is a game that can make anyone rich like the Eto'os
etc. He reminded the youths that what matters in football is not winning the
trophy, what matters he said is the Fanfare that goes with it. He frowned at
the youths of Kungi for refusing their peers from other areas to take part in
the tournament. The Fon of Kungi expressed gratitude to the cup donor for
encouraging youths and building communities through sport. On her part, Mary
Awudu, mother of the cup donor thanked the youths for their maturity. She said
she saw Budding Talents that will go to bigger heights.
