There was euphoria and fanfare at Presbyterian Secondary School Bafut today January 24, 2021 as Hon. Agho Oliver handed 150 roofing sheets to the school administration. The MP who was flanked by crack team stormed PSS Bafut to personally hand the roofing sheets as part of his efforts to support educational structures that have suffered devastating effects during the ongoing crisis. Addressing teachers and students during the handing over ceremony, Hon. Agho reiterated that education is the key to the world and nobody worth the salt can stay indifferent when children are studying in an inconvenient environment. Harping on the importance of education, Hon. Agho Oliver applauded the school administration for their dexterousness in moulding young minds. On their part, the school administration expressed joy for the timely support and promised that the roofing sheets will be used for the purpose intended. Prospects are high at that the support will go a long way to help in the rehabilitation of the school that has suffered two fire incidents within one year.
Talking to journalists after the handing over, the MP said "One of our duties is to accompany our population in distress anywhere they find themselves and to ensure that they regain their dormitory and get back to classes, it was important for me to answer the call made by the SDO and the city Mayor of Bamenda"
Earlier on, the SDO for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh did an on the spot assessment of damage incurred by the school and recommended that the Mayor of Bamenda II will see into the construction of the boys dormitory while the Mayor of Bafut will maintain the girls dormitory. This is so because PSS Bafut is hosted by PHS Mankon.
An estimated 60 girls and 73 boys are directly affected by the two separate fire incidences. The boys dormitory went up in flames last January 2020 while at weekend, it was the girl's dormitory that was consumed by fire.
