What Serena Told Me After I Defeated Her - Osaka Reveals

Serena and Osaka

Japanese tennis star, Naomi Osaka has revealed what the 23-time grand slam winner, Serena Williams privately told her after the game. Naomi Osaka has revealed Serena Williams told her she was proud of her after she claimed the US Open title, Sporting News AU reports.
Osaka, 20, became the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam with her 6-2 6-4 win over her idol Williams in the final on Saturday.
However, her success was overshadowed by controversy surrounding Williams, who was handed three code violations by Carlos Ramos before accusing the umpire of sexism.
The Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd booed during the trophy presentation, dampening Osaka’s moment.
Speaking on Wednesday, Osaka said she was unsure just why the crowd were booing at the time, but Williams had some kind words for the champion.
“She said, like, she was proud of me and that I should know that the crowd weren’t booing at me,” Osaka told The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “So I was really happy that she said that.
At the time, I did kind of think they were booing at me ‘cause I couldn’t tell what was going on because it was just so loud in there, so it was a little bit stressful.”
As Williams fell apart, Osaka showed maturity by staying cool to close out her maiden Grand Slam title.
Osaka said she was taught as a youngster to ignore the other side of the court.
“You’re told to just turn around and try to focus so I tried to do that,” she said. “But in my mind, I really wanted to know what was going on.”

Bishop Resigns as Pope Orders Inquiry in Sex Abuse Case

  Pope Francis ordered an investigation

Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Catholic Bishop Michael J. Bransfield was forced to resign his post in West Virginia on Thursday amid accusations of sexual harassment.
Pope Francis ordered an investigation into Bransfield's conduct, directing Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore to lead a probe into whether accusations are true that Bransfield sexually harassed adults. Lori will also take over the diocese of Charleston-Wheeling.
"My primary concern is for the care and support of the priests and people of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston at this difficult time," Lori said in a statement. "I further pledge to conduct a thorough investigation in search of the truth into the troubling allegations against Bishop Bransfield and to work closely with clergy, religious leaders of the diocese until the appointment of a new bishop."
It's the latest revelation accusing a Catholic clergy member of sexual wrongdoing. Last month, a Pennsylvania grand jury accused six Catholic dioceses of covering up the abuse of more than 1,000 children by more than 300 clergy. Francis called for an unprecedented meeting of Catholic bishops in February to discuss the sexual abuse scandal and what can be done to keep children safe

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, which announced its findings Wednesday, said the number of new cases, the prevalence after five years and the number of deaths was due to several factors that include social and economic development and growing and aging populations. Also, cancers are shifting from poverty and infections toward ones linked to lifestyles and diets.
The survey is based on data from 185 countries and 36 types of cancer.
In 2012, when the last survey was published, there were an estimated 14.1 million cases and 8.2 million deaths.
