The National Executive Committee of the
Social Democratic Front-SDF met in Bamenda last weekend and during the meeting
one of the key points on the agenda was the launching of over 20.000 signatures
for the immediate release of Laurent Gbagbo. In his preliminary remarks SDF Chairman, Ni
John Fru Ndi said that the petition is not to change power in Cote d’Ivoire but
it is intended to establish the truth about what happened before Laurent Gbagbo
was kidnapped. According to Ni John Fru Ndi, the petition is only about the
liberation of President Laurent Gbagbo “because in the absence of the responsible
actors of Cote d’Ivoire’s crisis, any decision taken at the Hague will be void
of any legality.
Fru Ndi added that “today is a very important
day because we are launching a petition in Cameroon which we sincerely hope
will obtain the adherence without fear nor shame of a vast majority of people
in Cameroon from all ranks and file and across the political spectrum, to call
for the immediate release of President Laurent Gbagbo, from the unjust, and
unsuitable situation in which a few known impostors of the legitimacy of the
International community have placed him.
He
continued that the international community cannot be shaped into the wish of
neo-imperialism and cannot continuously, in the 21st century cannot
be subject to wishful justice. To Ni John Fru Ndi, the petitions will true
justice a chance.
