AU condoles with Cameroon following accidents, sends solidarity message

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 22 October 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma sends her deepest condolences to the government and people of Cameroon, and particularly, to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the ghastly train accident, which occurred on Friday, 21 October 2016.   The derailment occurred in Eseka in the Central Region, while the train was moving from the capital city Yaoundé to the economic capital Douala. The accident left over 55 people dead and 575 other passengers wounded.   The AU Commission Chairperson also wishes speedy recovery to the injured, and supports the government’s decision to carry out investigations, in order to ascertain the cause of the accident, and prevent further such incidents.   The Government of Cameroon declared national mourning, while providing assistance to the victims and families. Marafat Tells President Biya to Visit Eseka

Former Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization Marafa Hamidou Yaya has told President Biya to visit Eseka. Marafat who is writing from his prison cell in another explosive letter tells President Biya to surmount his fantasy irrational fear to visit the town of Eseka, where close to 100 Cameroonians perished in a train accident. Marafa Hamidou Yaya, who is serving a sentence of 20 years in prison on charges of embezzlement, revealed in the letter that the dignity and emotion of a nation requires the chief executive to visit the site of the accident. After Blood Donation: Ta Nformi Christopher Fomunyoh Lays Wreath for Cameroon Train Accident Victims

A prayer from a Christian and another from a Moslem Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh then bowed in honour of his departed compatriots. He was accompanied by local administrative authorities who briefed him on the circumstances of the accident and immediate measures that were taken to limit the causalities. Earlier, the TFF President visited the Esseka hospital that offered first aid to the victims. Here he encouraged the medical staff for showing such compassion even under difficult circumstances. Ta Nformi Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh Visits Eseka Train Victims, Donates Own Blood

  It was a symbolic but landmark stop at the Yaounde Central Hospital and Emergency Centre on Friday October 28, 2016 when the President of The Fomunyoh Foundation (TFF), arrived the health unit and voluntarily opted to donate his precious blood. The blood bank had ran dry following a ghastly rail derailment at Esseka on October 21, 2016, that has so far claimed close to One Hundred (100) lives with many more still in dire need of medical attention in various hospitals. Apparently unperturbed and still strong even after the blood reduction from his system, Dr. Fomunyoh took time to hand gifts of assorted items to the victims as he went around with near wet eyes comforting them to take heart. The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation has announced the death of the Governor of the Centre Region, Joseph Otto Wilson. He died from an illness in an American Hospital in Paris in the capital of France where he had been evacuated for medical treatment. He has been Governor of the Centre Region since July 2014. Governor Joseph Otto Wilson who was flown out of the country on the 8th of September 2016 for specialised medical attention. The Senior Civil Administrator was born in the Littoral region of Cameroon some 52 years ago. Prior to his appointment as Governor of the Centre Region, Otto Joseph Wilson had served as Governor of the North Region. Gov't Offers Free Medical Care to Victims of Eseka Train Accident President Says

President Paul Biya has said that government will take care of all the victims of the train fatal accident of last week. President Biya who rushed from Europe on Sunday  also instructed that a proper investigation be carried out to detect  the causes of accident that killed close to a hundred and or more Cameroonians.  On Sunday, the government appealed for additional blood donations to assist with the treatment of some 600 people who suffered injuries.“I have ordered an in-depth inquiry into the causes of this accident,” Biya told state TV in French on returning to Cameroon on Sunday afternoon after a trip in Europe.“I have ordered for victims’ (medical) costs to be paid for by the state,” he added.Operator Camrail, a unit of French industrial group Bollore, said on Sunday it had set up a special train service to fetch bodies from the crash site.Witnesses said that before the crash extra carriages had been added to the train to accommodate exceptionally hi...

Fellow compatriots, yesterday Friday, October 21, our country experienced the worst train accident in its history when the Yaounde -- Douala inner-city train derailed in Eseka, Nyong & Kellé division of the Center region. Train Derailment near Eseka: Dead Toll Rises to 54..........

The train was traveling between Yaounde and Douala, when it overturned near Eseka. Eye witnesses say there were approximately 1,300 people on the train instead of the usual 600. Transport minister Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o said 54 (55) persons died and over 5 75 sustained injuries in the train derailment near Eseka, today October 21, 2016. Speaking on CRTV, Transport minister added that the accident has recorded significant human and material damage.   However, classified sources say about 14 persons are still trapped in some of the wagons and many may die at night fall. The cause of the derailment is still to be established. The derailment came after the road linking Yaoundé and Douala collapsed today morning at Matomb, momentarily interrupting traffic between the two main cities.
