Matters Arising from Drimp Regional Youth Forum Nkambe: The Stakes and Implications of the Call to Boycott that was Boycotted

Cross section of the youths at Nkambe community hall
There was euphoria in Nkambe where over 500 youths participated in a youth forum organized by Rogers Nforgwei. Drimp Regional Youth Forum that took place at the Nkambe Community Hall on August 19, 2016 has gone into history as luminous test of the political hate that looms large in (Wi)mbum land. Although the event was seen by Rogers Nforgwei’s own CPDM elite(s) as a stage setting for his political aggrandizement, the rampant phone calls calling for boycott fell on deaf ears.

Present at the Nkambe Community hall were Fons of Nkambe, Kup, Sah, Bih, Kungi, Bongom and others sub chiefs who were buried in the crowd.
Mayor of Nkambe, Ngabir Paul Bantar in a welcome speech called on the youths to dream big in order to be productive tomorrow. Ngabir Paul Bantar, used the opportunity to urge other elites to emulate the example of Rogers Nforgwei to encourage youth empowerment.
Rogers addressing youths of Mbuwarr at Awafy Hotel
However, we gathered that the few misguided CPDM elite (names withheld) maneuvered in the dark for the event to flop but their call for boycott was extremely boycotted by the population who on the contrary showed proof of their independence. This obnoxious plan to frustrate Drimp Regional Youth Forum we were reliably informed was masterminded by a handful of elite based in some big cities. They made rampant phone calls threatening that those who would dare will be sacked from the party. “I am sure this man is after something” one local official told this reporter. “Nkambe is like not free for all. We have just observed that some of our local party officials are so arrogant that they turn to challenge hierarchy. It is regrettable”, one councilor who preferred not to be named told us. This extremely mind bugging call for boycott failed woefully as majority Mbuwarr youths after learning of the scary attempt turned out massively to participate. However, many Wimbum people of goodwill and conscience have been asking whether something is not wrong with some of their elite. To many, the funny story of asking people to boycott a youth empowerment forum on alleged political aggrandizement is an unfathomable and a joke of a very bad taste. Nevertheless, since the success of any event of such magnitude depends on the personality who organizes, Abanda Marcel defeated his detractors by showing that he is exceedingly an intelligent mobilizer and a proactive youth leader and not king of youth with three followers. Since conventional wisdom holds that when you transform neglected things into an enviable art, others will want to dislodge you to reap the fruits of what they did not plant; Rogers’ involvement in politics we gathered is creating panic within the ranks of the CPDM. The unadventurous loom is to charge the politicians and tacticians for this dreaded odium politicum. If truth be told, the unfortunate is the fact that in Nkambe, citizens don’t care to look inward a little. Whether or not they want to admit it, political hate is a demand-driven happening. Rumour monger sell high and the politicians are creating a big market for it. What is curious is that these drummers are people who society look at them as models but yet they carryout obnoxious practices to kill dreams. In raising eyebrows, giving the integrity and public credibility that politics is a good game but played by bad people, history had it recorded that all plans to frustrate Drimp Regional Youth Forum did not only flopped but sent warning signals to the detractors who are being unmask one after another. The truth is that those who have been ardent militants of the CPDM in Nkambe confirmed that Rogers Nforgwei was even the lone person who in the past was supporting local party activities. In 2011, he made the Section proud when he doled out FCFA 8 million during the fundraising in Bamenda in support of President Biya’s candidature. “He is and has remained loyal CPDM” one of his followers told us in a chat.
What was however as fiasco, was the Drimp Youth Soccer Championship. The football tournament was marred by poor organization, planning. In fact everything was poor executed.(details soon)

The despair of leaving the Rio Olympics without a medal was finally overcome as the men's football team were able to make Nigerians smile with a medal in the game.
Nigeria finally came through to winning a medal at the on-going Rio 2016 Olympics as the Men's soccer team scored a bronze medal for the country.
The game which went down on Saturday, August 20, saw the Dream Team winning Honduras on a score line of 3-2.
The bronze medal winning match saw Aminu Umar scoring in the 34th and 49th minutes of the game.
In the 56th minute, Sadiq Umar scored a goal making giving Nigeria a decisive lead of 3-0 against Honduras.
Honduras began climbing back with Anthony Lozano scoring a goal in the 71st minute and Marcelo Periera scoring in the 86th minute making the score 3-2.
The bonze medal is being coined by some as the “Golden Bronze” referring to the fact that it is the only medal won by Team Nigeria so far at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Nigeria last won a medal at an Olympic Games in 2008, and this Bronze will bring the country’s overall tally to 24 medals won, with football now winning all colours of medals: GOLD in 1996, Silver in 2008, Bronze in 2016

3 Nigerians Arrested Over $500k Credit Card Scam in the U.S

Three Nigerian adults have been nabbed in a case of credit card fraud in the United States of America.
The culprits in question
Some Nigerians in America have put the country in the news for criminal reasons after engaging in financial crimes.
According to a trending report, three Nigerian fraudsters including a woman, Maxwell Ezenwa, Christy Tifase and Shalewa Olayinka, have been arrested and charged by the Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators and the United States Postal Inspectors for allegedly perpetrating a massive Credit Card scam that has set back owners to the tune of $500,000, Daily Mail reports.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the trio started the scam in 2014, after investigators began a joint investigation of a group suspected of being involved in fraud in which credit cards were applied without the victims' consent, mailed to the victims, and stolen out of their mail boxes.
The scammers were also said to have registered two business ventures with which they used to process the credit cards for large unusual amounts, and were also able to generate cash from the fraud apps they had created.
Those businesses were identified as Lace Warehouse and African Fashions owned by Maxwell Ezenwa and Lagos Island Café, owned by Christy Tifase, while the losses incurred by the victims of the fraud exceeded $500,000 and dozens of identities were stolen.
Ezwena said to have been arrested previously in a case for fraudulent use of identifying information, although he will now face an additional charge of engaging in organized criminal activity, while Olayinka was arrested on a warrant for engaging in organized criminal activity.

Bangolan Chieftaincy Crisis: One Killed, 20 Blacklisted

destruction
Terror is the reigning sentiment in Bangolan village, in Ngoketunjia Division of the Norh West Region following the assassination of Pa Tata Forkeng. Reports hold that Tata Forkeng was attacked in his home and murdered in cold blood. The assassination we gathered is linked to the chieftaincy crisis rocked the village. Matters came to a head when information leaked that Fon Chafah and 19 others were targeted by the gang that assassinated Pa Tata recently. It is alleged that first on the list of those blacklisted is Fon Chafah Isaac. An atmosphere of uncertainty looms large in Bangolan as supporters of Mbipefah, who died mysteriously after release from Ndop prison, have also declared a cold war on Fon Chafah’s supporters. Allegations that women from Baba I married to Bangon are being chased away abound high. The xenophobia we gathered emanates from the fact that Fon Chafah’s mother hails from Baba I palace.

The Eye is aware that one of the grievous things is that the corpse of the Inkatha Fon has not yet been buried. Despite the fact that Fon Chafah insisted that an autopsy e conducted on the corpse to determined the cause, before burial, Inkatha’s supporters say he has a hand in it. But Fon Chafah’s supporters have dismissed the threats as mere hot air. To them, his detractors have performed all the rituals to kill Fon Chafah, rumours even hold that Fon Chafah’s picture was taken to Nigeria for him to be killed but it didn’t work. “The God Fon Chafah serves will fight for him” one of his supporters is quoted to have said.

End of Boko Haram: U.S Govt. Announces Intention to Send FBI Team to Nigeria

The U.S. Government has said it would send officials from its Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other security experts to provide technical assistance to the Nigerian Government.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja, the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy, Alan Tousignant, who led a security delegation on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, has disclosed that the U.S. Government would send officials from its Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to provide technical assistance to the Nigerian Government to deal with terrorism.
According to Premium times, the United States envoy said the delegation which comprised a team of the U.S Security Governance Initiative that offers enhanced security technical assistance to six African countries, including Nigeria, was in the country as a follow-up to its earlier visit in January.
They were in Nigeria at the request of the Nigerian government to provide a holistic security technical assistance and not to donate any equipment, adding that the federal government identified three major areas of partnership to include enhancing the Ministry of Interior’s emergency response coordination, Ministry of Defence’s procurement procedure and the civilian security planning for the North-East.
He said the week-long interaction between the SGI team and the Nigerian security agencies would fashion out a robust roadmap to ensure better efficiency, transparency and justice in Nigeria’s security architecture.
The Team leader, SGI, Stephen Nolan, said both countries were working to finalise and implement a Joint Country Action Plan (JCAP) which was a document that outlined a roadmap for a successful partnership, adding that the JCAP emphasised partnership and finding Nigerian solution to its security challenges not about what the U.S was doing for Nigeria.
He assured that the forthcoming elections in the U.S and the change of government in January 2017 would not affect the project as they had been working hard to ensure its sustenance. “I want to assure you that we have been working for the continuity and sustainability of this project, even after the Obama administration in January, 2017," he said.

How Niger Delta Avengers was Formed - Cynthia Whyte Reveals More on Jonathan's Alleged Involvement

The Reformed Niger Delta Avengers has insisted that former President, Goodluck Jonathan is the grand patron of the Niger Delta Avengers, threatening to reveal more sordid details about his connection with the militant group.
In a statement signed by Cynthia Whyte, the spokesperson for the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA), and made exclusively available to DailyPost, the splinter group of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), has insisted that former President Goodluck Jonathan is the grand patron of the militant group, and threatened to reveal more sordid details about his connection with the Avengers.
The group who detailed how NDA was formed with the sole objective of taking over from the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and countering their activities, said it understands why Goodluck Jonathan publicly denied the NDA.

Read the full statement below;
”To cut a long story short, NDA was formed to counter MEND but failed. The statement, however, said that the RNDA is not surprised that the alleged grand patron of the NDA, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has distanced himself from the NDA.
”It therefore did not come to the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) as a surprise that the Grand Patron of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has distanced himself from the NDA.
”Like every sponsor, sympathizer and operative earlier mentioned who has equally denied links with the Avengers, we can understand the wisdom behind their decision; as their participation was always meant to be covert.
”After a clandestine meeting in Otuoke, Bayelsa state in 2014 between the Grand Patron and several unidentified persons ahead of the Presidential election campaign of 2015, it was agreed that the Okah brothers should be contacted to reach out to the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) to endorse former President Goodluck Jonathan, and work with the group of persons to ensure victory for the PDP and President Jonathan.
”At the time, because MEND was the suggested tool, the NDA as a body was not yet formed. Mr Kingsley Kuku and Mr. Gordon Obuah, SA on Niger Delta and Chief Security Officer to President Jonathan, respectively were selected to visit Charles Okah in Kuje prison. Mr Daniel Alabrah was given the assignment to draft an endorsement statement for Charles Okah to go through and pass on to MEND.
”The duo reported back that they had visited Okah in Kuje prison at night with the promise of his release along with others should he cooperate to get MEND to endorse Jonathan.
”It therefore came as a shock when MEND did the opposite and endorsed Buhari. Mr. Jonathan was livid with anger and swore that the Okah’s would rot in prison.
”It was also agreed that a show of force be put up in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state where ex-militants led by Government Ekpemupolo and Kingsley Kuku would threaten war should the electorate vote in Buhari’s favour.
”It was around that period the idea of forming the Niger Delta Avengers was conceived. In fact the name “Avengers” came from the lips of Goodluck Jonathan.
”As election day approached, certain stakeholders were mobilized to form a force to standby and ensure total anarchy in the South-South and South-East within 24 hours if the election results were not favourable to Jonathan. It took everyone by surprise to learn that Mr Jonathan had conceded defeat even before the final results were released. The standby force who were to attack specific targets were told to stand down. They were all compensated in US dollars cash.
”The Niger Delta Avengers was born from the failure at the polls and would now be used as an organ to make the Buhari government ungovernable, bring economic hardship and cause hatred for the administration towards failure at the 2019 general elections.
”MEND was aware of this plot through a spy that could not be identified, and the group began its campaign to counter every effort of the NDA and the Biafra agitators to this day. MEND has been a thorn in the flesh because MEND’s successful propaganda has caused the split in our ranks today.
”If former President Jonathan provokes us further with denials of this revelation, we will reveal more sordid details. The prison authorities in Kuje who witnessed the closed door meeting from the outside can attest to that night visit of November 2014.”

Tricks Mechanics Use in Extorting Money From Car Owners

This is an enlightening piece on the nefarious antics of vehicle mechanics in Nigeria indirectly scamming prospective customers.
Even if your car doesn’t come with 470 HP and Wi-Fi connectivity, your car is the biggest and most expensive gadget you own.
The Nigeria auto-industry is saturated with large number of mechanics who have little experience on car repairs or sometime driven by excessive profit motives to become deceitful. As such, unless a car owner changes his or her vehicle as often as a MacBook, keeping that ride in peak operating condition is as well as keeping repair costs down over its lifespan becomes very vital.

Here are 4 insights compiled by Autofactorng, an online retail store for sales of quality auto spare parts to make sure that a N5,000 brake job doesn’t cost you a N50, 000 leak in your checking account.

1. Trial and error

A large number of mechanics have little experience and knowledge about the well-being of cars. Working on modern vehicles demands unprecedented talent and training. In the bid to fix the problem, more problems arise.

2. Charging for unnecessary repairs

A mechanic diagnoses a problem, repairs it and – surprise, surprise – the problem is still there. They then re-diagnose it as a different problem and repair that. Eventually, the mechanic repairs the original defect but charges the customer for all the repairs. In some other instances, the mechanic is fully aware of other faults in your vehicle but will keep mute so as to get you to come back and pay more.

3. Misdiagnosing something that is not faulty

Sometimes to pad their bills, mechanics will tell a customer non-defective parts need to be replaced. Your brakes need to be resurfaced? They’ll tell you to get them replaced. Other parts on the car can be repaired? They’ll suggest replacement. Like unnecessary repairs, unneeded parts being sold to you are also a trick for major extortion.

4. Purchase of inferior parts

Mechanics in Nigeria are in this habit. The car owner pays for authentic parts for repairs, they will not only double the price of parts, they go as far as getting inferior parts which will eventually cause more damage.

Cocoa/Coffee Sector: New Generation Programme Ignites Hopes

Statistics show that cocoa production in Cameroon will reach 269,495 tons during the 2015-2016 campaign season with expectation that by 2020 production may reach 600 000 tons. However, prospects are high at that Cameroon could reach its target with the contribution from initiatives such as the New Generation programme which was initiated since 2012 by the Interprofessional Council of Cocoa and Coffee (CICC).  This is so because the New Generation Programme is already displays flattering results especially with the involvement of youths. Sources say over 1400 hectares of new cocoa farms and coffee has already been developed with over 1,000 young farmers. Indicators are rife at that the 2015/16 figure surpassed the central African country's previous record of 240,000 tons during the 2010/11 season. Output since then has fluctuated due to pests, crop diseases and prolonged dry seasons.
According to the Minister of Commerce, Luc Magloire Atangana Mbarga "this programme is only a few years yet demonstrates efficiency and effectiveness. He made the flattering statement at the opening of the first International Forum of young New Generation organized by the CICC and the Ministry of Commerce. It should be noted that the forum was the first joint international Cocoa festival that offered an opportunity for young farmers to share ideas, knowledge and experiences. And, this is also an opportunity to discover young people that make cocoa farming a business.

Pogba Signs for Manchester United, Becomes Most Expensive Football Player

Paul Pogba has signed for Manchester United to become the most expensive player ever in football history.
Paul Pogba
Manchester United have completed the signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus in a world record fee. He is now the most expensive transfer ever.
The France midfielder left United to join Juve in 2012 and becomes Jose Mourinho's most expensive buy this season.
The 23-year-old has now become the most expensive player in football history, overtaking the deal that took Gareth Bale from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013.
United will pay the Italian champions 105m euros for Pogba, plus 5m euros (£4.5m) in performance-related bonuses and other costs, including 5m euros if Pogba signs a new contract. It surpasses the £85m that Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Wales forward Gareth Bale in 2013, BBC reports.
"Manchester United is delighted to announce that Paul Pogba has completed his transfer from Italian club Juventus," the club wrote on their official website.
"Paul joins on a five-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year."
According to Goal.com, Pogba is reported to earn an astonishing £104m pre-tax salary over five years, a figure that put off Real Madrid, who were also in the running for his signature, with Cristiano Ronaldo the only Los Blancos star to earn more than that amount.
The Frenchman made just seven appearances for United during his initial stint with the club, and failed to complete 90 minutes in the Premier League under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.
But while there was some bitterness on both sides at his departure for Italy, Pogba has made the decision to rejoin the club as they look to vastly improve on the fifth-placed finish secured under Louis van Gaal in 2015-16.
