Congratulations Ndzi Vera: You Deserve it

Hard work and determination are the characteristics that define Ndzi Vera Mankuh.  Yet, even more so, she can now relish the shared feeling of pride in what she has accomplished and the abundant opportunities ahead.
I think that many of those who graduated from the University of Bamenda each has a story to tell, regardless of their chosen area of specialty or feild. Of the hundreds, I happen to know Ndzi Vera, who I believe had to work extremely hard with dogged determination. And I know as she has bagged bachelor degree in law, she has been given the opportunity to enrich the lives of those around her.
However, if I have anything to tell her, it's just to remind her that as she embarks upon and progress through her career in law, I would urge her to always remember why she chose her respective field and the sacrifices that she endured in order to make it happen: to serve our communities and improve the quality of life. And that she should remain who she is. The young lady born to be duty conscious with compassion, honesty and integrity

Vera! Vera! I salute your exploits for nothing good comes easy. In fact there is every reason for God to bless you on this day, December 16, 2021. This is a one in a life occasion.  It was not easy, but you conquered the challenges and emerged from the madding crowd of students in your faculty. If that isn’t an act of hard work and determination, then my dictionary doesn’t have that word.
 Congratulations!!!!!
Your determination to make it has paid off big and you have crossed yet another mile. May all your dreams come to fruition. I am proud that you have made it this far. Looking forward to see you in black robes presiding or defending.  Once more Congratulations on your graduation.

Ndu Council Holds Her Budgetary Session For 2022 Financial Year

The Ndu Council Hall was jammed to capacity last Saturday 11 December 2021. The arrival of the SDO for Donga Mantung, Dr Nkwenti Simon Doh and entourage at 12:19 marked the beginning of serious business.

The Mayor for Ndu Council, the Gate Way Municipality, Alhadji Abdou Kanfon Borno took to the rostrum and heartily welcome everyone present. He said the draft budget witnessed almost a 25% drop from the previous year. He stressed the need for everyone to remain focused and made it clear that the drop was very intentional. His administration settled for a more realistic and qualitative, rather than quantitative budget. The Mayor described the budget as collective, introspective and focused; a budget balanced in revenue and expenditure.

Councillor Tata Emmanuel Bantar, chairman of the Financed Committee delivered a forensic and captivating presentation of the draft budget which stood at 900+m, a drop of 300+m compared to the previous budget. Recurrent revenue stood at 500+m while investment revenue stood at 400+m revenue. This is how the 900+m budget was arrived at. He   said the draft budget was a projection of the three previous budgets of the Ndu Council excluding the 2021 budget which is still current and as such cannot be used as a reference.

The Finance Committee Chair reminded the 40 Councillors present that the draft budget shall be functioning within a transitional period; a new tax nomenclature and accounting system in perspective. There is therefore a possibility for the budget to be amended in the course of the year if such a need arise.

He ended his presentation with three proposals from the Finance Committee to the Councillors;
- Council should offer training to staff of the treasury and finance department
- the Ndu Council should broaden her tax base in collaboration with the technical ministeries
- revision of the Council development plan

The Secretary General for Ndu Council Mr Tansah... indicated that the draft budget has made provision for a budget head for the Council to acquire plots for;
- a Council plantation
- a Council cemetery
- green areas and gardens, to name but these

Other Chairpersons presented their Committee reports. This included Security, Education and Infrastructure and Transport committees. Proper diagnosis were made within their respective spheres and very sound recommendations forwarded to the Mayor and the administration.

The presentation of the Annual Investment Plan was a clear indication that Mayor Abdou Kanfon Borno and team has opted for a balanced development with significant projects earmarked all over the Municipality. The beautifully decorated Ndu Council Hall was as busy as a bee hive. The pertinence of human interest issues raised by Councillors and the penetrating responses from the Lord Mayor was an indication that the Ndu population are in safe hands.

All the 36 Councillors physically present and the 04 who could only make it through proxy unanimously voted in favour of the 2022 budget after serious scrutiny. They equally voted to authorize the Mayor to supplement the purchase of a Council vehicle by FEICOM, integrate 4 Council workers as permanent staffs, authorise the Mayor to sign conventions with national and international partners (as allowed for by the regulations in force) in the domain of agriculture and renewable energy (ie solar energy and bio gaz) and the adoption of the Council Annual Investment Plan.
During his intervention, the SDO for Donga Mantung Dr Nkwenti Simon Doh lorded the Executive of the Ndu Municipality for their offensive, effective and efficient lobbying mechanism. He enjoined them to do more and continue to change the face of this *Gate Way Municipality.* The SDO told the population of Ndu to capitalize on what will skyrocket her development endeavours and give her the opportunity to live in peace. He frowned at those motorbike riders who've continued to serve as a link between the population and the enemies of peace. He called on the Council to step in and regulate the sector so that quacks could be singled out and cause to face the full force of the law.

He cautioned teachers to stop playing the devil's advocate and work hard to reinstate education to its glorious days. He called on the Council to boast sports infrastructure in Ndu through The Ministry of Sports and Physical Education. Sports and culture, he said, can do a lot towards regaining normalcy and the Council and the traditional authorities are key actors. He hailed the Fon of Ntumbaw and his population for their bravery and patriotism demonstrated so far. He said the powers that be have taken note of such efforts.

The SDO said it was agreed at a meeting in Nkambe that all Councillors of Donga Mantung shall set the pace in the payment of Land Tax before it trickles down to the communities. This would be deducted from their stipends at the source. He told everyone present to collaborate on security matters and thank all the Councillors for their quality participation.

The Lord Mayor for Ndu Council saluted the SDO and his entourage for their participation touching recommendations. He thank the DO of Ndu, the Divisional Delegates present and their engineers for their constant support and collaboration. He thank the Manager of BAPCUL Credit Union, Ndu for his useful collaboration with the Council. He acknowledged the present of leaders of legalized political parties, notably the CPDM and the SDF and thank the Union leaders present. He called on everyone present to observe a minute of silence in Honour of the UNDP party representative in Ndu who passed away some few weeks ago.

The Mayor indicated that the markets are functioning far below capacity causing a drastic drop in revenue collection. He equally pointed out that CAC disburses very slowly causing a serious tow on the rate of execution of Council related works. He thank the Council staff for the wonderful collaboration despite the challenging circumstances under which they operate.

The budgetary session ended at 2:59 pm

Mother of Wimbum Tradition Exhibited at Public Presentation of Fon of Binjeng

There was fanfare at Binjeng Fon's Palace in Nkambe Central where thousands gathered on December 6, 2021 to witness the public presentation of HRH Fon Eugene Nfor Nkwinamor V. The euphoria that saluted the appearance of the first public appearance of the fon was in strict Wimbum culture and tradition. It was a moment of solemnity marked by royalty and nobility for the few leaders of the nwarong society. Not even the voice of a crying baby and not to talk of an enchanting bird is heard during the ceremony. Only the gong and members of the nwarong society who are accompanying the new fon are allowed to talk.

It is a unique moment that the Yee-nwarong also makes a public appearance and majestically walks the palace yard in snail steps. It is equally the only moment, whereby the nwarong which is the supreme authority of the land, sends a message and tells the people some of the things that an ordinary can never see. It is the unique moment where the barren are blessed to bear children and the land is blessed for more heaviest. A once in a lifetime event in the life of every village that the real strong men who see tomorrow make of public pronouncements of what tomorrow holds.
The event at Binjeng was magnificent in colours, it portrayed the rich cultural heritage of the Wimbum people. 32 years old Fon Eugene Nfor Nkwinamor before his enthronement was an engineer and was enthroned to succeed his father. It is alleged that following Prefectoral Order No 003/200 of July 10, 2000, the administration

recognized Binjeng as a third class fondom.

Worthy to note that Rogers Nforgwei is taking over from Shey Henry who has served the association for more than 10 years. The new executive is taking over at a point in time that close to three palaces are in darkness. Besides, public opinion equally holds that the new executive could equally create an impact during the Bfu Bfu of Saah, Mbaah, Nkambe and Kup this December. This, another school of thought holds is an opportunity for WICUDA to reach out to the villages and make it agenda known at village levels.

Rising Musician Kubison, to Launch New Album in Nkambe

All roads lead to Bamboo Bar in Nkambe where rising musical icon, Kubison Nothing is expected to launch his new album. Officials of the Mbotman Entertainment  are so exciting than to present a rising musical star, come December 18, 2021. Impressionists say it's a-not-to miss musical show of the year 2021.
But who is Kubision?
Let me introduce you to Kubison, one of the promising artists whose music will soon hit the chart. That said the stages are by no means an unfamiliar area for the new artist. Known by his real names as Ngobi Theodore Kubi , this young artist who draws his inspiration from practical happenings around him has once again hit the chart with a new album titlled "Cameroon”. The album is a thriller of perfect combination of grass feild music that takes its roots from the Wimbum culture and tradition. This new album will be officially launched on December 18, at the Bamboo Bar in Nkambe. Guest artists shall include Ajento Baba, Mama G and scores of other talented artists from Donga Mantung Division and beyond. The official launching is organized by Mbotman Entertainment.
Musically speaking, Kubison moves in between the polished and structured, and the edgy and audaciously bold sounds of RnB/ Afro beats. His meticulous hub on the romantic bubble of his songs, combined with his talented skills in playing the guitar has resulted in his music being great. He is a perfect musician that holds the crowd spellbound with his guitar.
This young talented musician RnB/Afro artist who hails from Ngarum in Wi(mbum) land in Donga Mantung Division is a typical mark of a bulk of talent. His music entirely describes practical happenings of life and he mixes his mother tongue, Limbum and English to sing.

Kubison is a young business man and a songwriter. If you have never had the opportunity to listen to a typical Wimbum foreflore, go for Kubison for the nostalgic instincts. Music is in his blood. Kubison started singing at the age of 13 years old with the cadete of Mary Catholic Church at Ngarum. He owes his success to Jiza Shafter (of blessed memory) who mentored him to the world of music. "Cameroon" is his third musical album after "Decale Njan"  and "Kolah".

Misaje Showcases Fruits of Relative Peace at President Biya's 39th Anniversary

There was fanfare and trumpet blast on November 6, 2021 at the Misaje market square to mark the 39th anniversary of the accession to the Supreme Magistracy by President Paul Biya. The celebration that started at 3 pm sent sounds of the drums and the gongs into the valleys of Chunghe, Dumbu, Kameni, Nkanchi and the hills of Kibbo, Akweto, and Bebekette. There was euphoria with the arrival of the Divisional Officer for Misaje at the ceremonial ground where he was received by the 1st Deputy Mayor Kinlo Gregory Ngeh  and the newly elected CPDM Section Executive led by Ali Tukur
In his welcome speech, Kinlo Gregory Ngeh, 1st Deputy Mayor of the Misaje council said that the 39th anniversary of the accession  power of President Biya is taking place at the heals an important election in the history of Cameroon which registered the putting in place of new institutions. He cited the regional council and the House of Chiefs which clearly indicates that decentralization has come to stay. He also used the opportunity to pour showers of praises of Dr. Fuh Calistus for transforming Misaje into a regional road junction. To Kinlo Gregory Ngeh, Misaje council area stands to benefit much from the tarring of the ring road and its extension into Nigeria through Dumbu and Sabongida down to Bisola. He said the marriage between President Paul Biya and the Misaje people is a marriage of trust and love, and that he would spare no efforts to always thank the head of state for remembering Misaje municipality. The projects that have so far been achieved in Misaje Sub Division are so many that we can take the whole day enumerating them. However, I am going to cite a few examples; the construction of a gigantic grandstand, the construction of a modern market in Misaje and Dumbu, the rehabilitation of the electricity project with cement polls, and the construction of market hangers in all the villages, he emphasized. Harping on the importance of education, Kinlo Gregory applauded Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry for awarding scholarships to sons and daughters of Donga Mantung. To the 1st Deputy Mayor of Misaje Council, the Donga Mantung Scholarship Fund has being as big booster to an effective and sustainable back to school in the past four years. He appealed to the population to rush to the Misaje Medicalized Health Center to take the COVID-19 vaccine. While thanking President Paul Biya, for appointing Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Mines, Industries and Technological Development, and like Oliver Twist, he appealed to the head of state to; hasten the return of peace in the North West and South West Regions, the creation of the department of animal husbandry of the Bamenda university in Donga Mantung, the creation of the Far North West Region which will give the people of Donga Mantung autonomous services that will facilitate their movement, and to kindly uplift Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry to full flesh minister.
On his part the newly elected Section President Ali Tukur said that celebrating the 39th anniversary of President Biyas accession to power means a lot. Back2School in Donga Mantung. DOMASF Dolls out FCFA15 Million to Encourage Meritocracy, Support Orphans and Young Innovators

The Donga Mantung Scholarship Fund-DOMASF has once more come to the assistance of some 368 students and pupils who were drawn from the five Sub Divisions that make up Donga Mantung. The groundbreaking ceremony which took place under the distinguished patronage of the Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung, Dr. Simon Nkwenti Doh witnessed amongst other innovative actives, the distribution school materials to an additional 250 needy students and pupils, the award of excellence to meritorious students, the support to orphans victims of the crisis and the allocation of seed fund to young entrepreneurs.
The 2nd edition of DOMASF which was part a activities marking 2021/2022 Back to School was aimed at raising the human resource base of Donga Mantung division, a laudable initiative of Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry and sponsor. In programming the scholarship to fall on the eve of the 2021.2021 back to school, DOMASF’s intention was to be a booster to President Biya’s educational policy which aims at making sure all Cameroonian children have access to quality education.
This year’s scholarship event of September 4, 2021 involved schools in all of Donga Mantung aimed at rewarding meritocracy among students, ranging from Primary School to High school levels. In each of the categories, three best pupils or students were rewarded for each sub Division. The best pupils in the First School Leaving Certificate Exams for each sub Division received cash prizes of 50.000 Frs each for the first, 40.000 frs for the second position and 30.000 for the 3rd position. In the GCE Ordinary Level and the GCE Intermediate categories, the best students three students received 100.000 frs for the first position, 70.000 frs for the 2nd position and 50.000 frs for the third positions respectively. In the Advanced Levels General and Advanced level Intermediate, the best three students in each sub division in the two categories backed home the sum of 150.000 for the first, 100.000 frs for the second and 50.000 frs each per student. On the other hand, 31 orphans victims of the crisis received 50.000 frs each. Besides that, over 250 needy students and pupils were given backs and didactic materials for a hitch free back to school.

The greatest innovation at this year’s award ceremony was the support to young entrepreneurs. Two best ideas were selected per sub division from a total number of 300 ideas and each of the selected ideas was awarded the sum of 500.000 frs to kickstart their businesses.
This amounted to over 15 million francs minus organizational charges and transportation. In offering the scholarship Dr. Fuh Calistus was actually giving back to society and encouraging performance and excellence.
Speaking at the 2nd edition of DOMASF, SDO for Donga Mantung, Dr. Simon Nkwenti Doh lauded Dr. Fuh Calistus’s efforts and said it was a pride for is administration in Donga Mantung to have such a philanthropist. He said the more you educate people, the less crime there would be in society. By supporting the education of children, the SDO said Dr. Calistus was helping in curbing the crime wave. Before handing over the cash prizes and the school needs to the beneficiaries, the SDO urged beneficiaries to study hard so as to encourage the donor to continue to give. He applauded Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry for his continued efforts since 14 years. He said the impact of the scholarship is unquantifiable given that Dr. Fuh Calistus realized long before that it was better to use the scholarship to disengage the young men and women from carrying guns into the bush so he rather used the scholarship and the startup to pull them out of the bushes in order to employ them gainfully. To the SDO for Donga Mantung it is a laudable initiative for other elites to emulate given that this is one of the areas which clearly demonstrates that the programmes of knowledge is gainful more than carrying guns into the bushes, he concluded.

It should be recalled that the idea of Donga Mantung Scholarship Fund started some years ago when GSS Misaje was created and the donor realized that the principal was always having problems with students and parents in Misaje due to their difficulties in paying school fees. Given that an average household in Misaje live on less than 500 FCFA a day and education was always likely to be sacrificed at the altar of choices. To preempt such a situation, Dr. Fuh Calistus decided to bankroll school fees in that school. Proof positive that the scholarship scheme worked is that fact that enrolment moved from 30 students in GSS Misaje to over 1500 today. From the start, the scholarship fund was limited to Ako/Misaje constituency but Dr. Fuh Calistus judged it necessary to extend it to all the sub divisions that make up Donga Mantung. No one, could have narrated this story more than Tarlishi Oliver Yinyu, the Coordinator of DOMASF who doubles as Divisional Delegate of Secondary Education for Donga Mantung. In his speech Tarlishi Oliver noted with satisfaction that DOMASF has impacted lives and has given the hopeless hopes. He said in 2021, the story of DOMASF has evolved with the provision of startups to young entrepreneurs by sponsoring  their projects ranging from irish potatoes cultivate to rearing of broilers, rabbits, food transformation, establishment of modern restaurants etc.
