President of the Republic recently signed a decree dismissing Pascal Magnaguemabe, a 4th grade magistrate for misconduct. Pascal Magnaguemabe was fired for alleged
abuse of powers of attorney and corruption over a family succession
affair. The text signed by President Paul Biya however specified that the magistrate still keeps
the right to his pension. The sacking of Pascal Magnaguemabe, comes a
month after Biya chaired the Higher Judicial Council meeting.
This decision by the Head of State has had diversified interpretations as many see it as a warning signal to check corrupt practices in the judiciary. The sacking of this 4th grade magistrate who was seen as the untouchable by many is therefore a warning signal that no one is above the law.
