The
Wimbum Cultural and Development Association (WICUDA-USA) has handed to
four boreholes (modern wells equipped with
manual pumps) to beneficiary communities in Nkambe and Ndu council
areas. The four modern wells were handed to
the mayors of the two municipalities by WICUDA USA representative, Dr.
Ngala. The
Mayors of Nkambe council Ngabir Paul Bantar and the Mayor of Ndu Council
Bunyui
Emmanuel Nyugap before receiving the four hand pump bores described the
donation as a gift of life. The two boreholes in the Ndu municipality
are located at Mbarkut and the Ndu Grandstand while in the Nkambe
municipality one of the borehole is at Binju and one in Nkambe palace.
These
hand pump water boreholes will enable about than 10,000 community members to
have access to safe and clean water. Speaking at the handing over ceremonies in Ndu and Nkambe, WICUDA-USA Representative Dr.
Ngala said that WICUDA-USA is committed to improving access to water and sanitation
in Mbumland.
The WHO estimates that every person
needs 50 to 100 litres of fresh water per day to meet their basic daily needs.
But, majority Mbumland especially in Ndu and Nkambe owns still don’t have
access to safe water. Lack of access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene can
cause illness or death, as typhoid is more rampant in these areas.
If water as they say is life, WICUDA USA
has kick started a life saving venture which will go a long to improve the livelihood
of beneficiaries.
