Hon. Esther Ngala, Musa Shey Nfor, Chris Mbunwe Thrill Wimbum Community at New Year

Over 10, 000 Wimbum people in Bamenda grouped under the umbrella of the Wimbum Cultural and Development Association-WICUDA gathered at the Wimbum Men Hall at Ndamukong Street to commemorate the beginning of a year in grand style. For years now, the Wimbum community in Bamenda has always staged what analysts say it’s a cultural jamboree.   In his New Year message, Chris Mbunwe, President of WICUDA-Bamenda branch used the occasion to caution Wimbum youths on societal ills such as banditry, disorder and the importance of peace. He also cautioned everyone to very vigilant and to avoid housing people they do not know. On the importance of the singing, dancing and masquerade displays, Chris Mbunwe added that the Wimbum culture should be cultivated in order to be relevant to the changing times. On her part, Hon. Esther Ngala Ntalah, Member of Parliament for Donga Mantung Centre cum former President of the Wimbum Women Group-Njuh Mile II added that culture should be propagated positively without sacrificing its true meaning to the everyday life of the people by portraying it as the mirror of the unique soul and character of a people. She also spoke elaborately on the phenomenon of climate change and HIV/AIDS.
One of the main attractions was the presence of a masquerade “Moye”. And the main eye-catching personality of that group was Musa Shey Nfor, BAPCCUL/CamCCUL President. To Musa Shey Nfor, “Culture is the soul of a people. It is a whole package of patrimonial qualities that differentiate and identifies the Wimbum people, thus promoting such values is another way in animating rural development”. Some of the dances that animated the Bamenda cultural fiesta included among others, the nneh of Tabenken, the Mbaya dance group, Njuh, Nfuh and others. It was also a moment for youths to get in touch with some Wimbum cultural and traditional practices.

Journalist Reveals Shocking Details on Missing Chibok Girls #BringBackOurGirls

Ahmed Salkida who is the only Nigerian journalist with direct access to the leaders of the Boko Haram sect has written about the status of the girls as well as the way forward.
Ahmed Salkida, the only journalist known to have some access to the leadership of Boko Haram, has said credible sources have told him the Chibok girls are still alive, with some refusing to convert to Islam, according to ThisDay.
Over 250 schoolgirls were kidnapped from their dormitory in April 2014 and at least 219 of them are still believed to be in captivity, although there is yet no clue on their location.
But Salkida, in an op-ed for TheCable.ng, suggested that President Muhammadu Buhari should use state machinery to open up access to the militants rather than say he has no clue on the kidnapped girls whose abductions sparked off the #BringBackOurGirls campaign.

Salkida wrote:
“Most of the Chibok girls, whether they are split into groups or not, are alive, multiple credible sources have told me, and if a deal to release them will weaken national security and endanger the entire country, then the federal government shouldn’t make a deal.
"I am confident that Chibok girls and other captives can return to their families if the government is half as strong-willed as some of the girls in captivity that have refused to be married out or give up their faith.
"The girls would have never backed out of any process, no matter how irritating it is. They would stay on and negotiate hard until they get a deal that will earn them their freedom and stop such abductions so that no one else can ever witness their woeful plight.”

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau from whom nothing has been heard in the last 10 months once released a video of the schoolgirls and said he had sold them off to marriage. All efforts to free the girls have failed.

Paul Biya’s 34th New Year Message: As about Nothing as All the Others!

 By TazoachaAsonganyi
As December wraps up each year, individual politicians and political parties clear their political minds on the year coming to an end, and the advent of a new year. Paul Biya is an epitome of that ritual, which, for him, is usually crowned by a speech to the nation on December 31. Going by the contents of such speeches, year after year, one has the impression that the speeches do not always involve enough thinking,  or that the persons behind it do not always apply their minds to the worn out, failed policies of the year or years that give way in December to the new. Or it may just be that since there is very little he achieves each year, there is usually very little to write home about. In any case, the result is that most of the time, he talks to and for his ego, not to the nation.
On December 31, he set another own-record by delivering his 34th successive New Year Message. Like many of the records he has set and is holding during his long reign, the record is not an enviable one, and would be competed for only by those who want to match or break it by dooming the country!
The longevity in power that has allowed Paul Biya to deliver 34 successive New Year messages has been much helped by an opposition that seems to see politics not through the lens of power, but of sterile argument and charm. Such charm is presented today in the coins of the “camaraderie” of tree-lighting, cross-party backslapping, and other shows of ‘friendship’ which, in essence, have nothing to do with politics because they get nothing done. The opposition has so easily forgotten that the only time anybody is influenced by what you say or do in politics is when they are afraid of you. Nobody fears the opposition any longer, since it behaves like there is no longer any issue to fight on! The Taoist notion that you use the strengths of the opponent to defeat him, or that you use what is against you to build your victory against a powerful opponent, has escaped the opposition completely.
And so Paul Biya has been making successive New Year-cum-state of the nation addresses at the end of each year, up to 34 times, in a country whose development curve has been on the descent for nearly all of those 34 years! When you put all the 34 speeches together, it is easy to conclude that they are from the mind of the same person because they are replete with repetitions, unfulfilled promises, demagogy, sloppy statistics, false claims, and cluelessness on how to set about the difficult task of nation building. In the end, the universal ambition of using politics to get things done is lost, and one has the sorry feeling that he is in politics for its own sake.
The 34 speeches fall in two broad groups. Those in the first group propounded a romantic politics of “communal liberalism” that was based more on appearing and sounding different from his processor than on personal convictions. All this changed with the 1992 attempt of the opposition to capture power, which gave him the fright of his life. It caused his power games to shift from this romanticism to a terrain where he makes a strenuous and confused effort to kill Democracy with ‘democracy’. The second group of the speeches from 1992 to 2015 defines this confused effort.
If you know that the policy and institutional engineering that will propel the developmental changes we need are sorely absent, some of the utterances in the speeches really turn your stomach, leaving it upset with disappointment. When you have absolute power for 34 years, you don’t talk about the policy and institutional changes required to foster development as if you are an opposition leader yearning to get to power and implement them. You show the fruits that the policy and institutional grids you have put in place have borne.
The superficial worries expressed each year in the speeches do not really seem to affect Paul Biya’s soul. When you envision and put a “Vision” or “Strategy” on paper, it is not there for the talking but for the doing. “Industrialization” is not about how to produce raw materials; it is about how to use raw materials. It is about a sound industrial policy framework that is owned by all of us, not by “ruling” parties, political cronies and sycophants. After all, the sustainable development we all want will be delivered by all of us, not by any leader, however wise he/she may be; not by partisan political supporters, however vocal their support may be; not by longevity in power, however long the stay in power may be.

Time usually burns the straws of serious policy, and leaves people like Paul Biya without any real policy. They end up unfocused, saying what they like when they speak, and doing what they like when they do anything. He pretends not to know that what he likes is not what the country likes. He pretends not to know that speech after speech, he provides no real reason to think or hope better for him or for his party.
They used to boastfully mock the rest of us by asking us to go to hell – allez dire! Or they played the role of the gallant caravan cruising along its course, while the rest of us “dogs” barked aimlessly. Now, the whole thing is looking to them like a tinderbox, and most of them seem to be terrified that some disappointed citizen – and they are many! – may just strike a match at any time for the whole thing to come alight. And so they legislate and legislate; and they repress and repress, as if you can stop the feuds you so purposefully engineer with such sleight of hand.
Do not mind the bloated accounts of CRTV, Cameroon Tribune, or other master’s voices about this other speech and the mood of the nation. The speech was as about nothing as the others have always been. Like many of the others, it just reminds us that the cigarette has since been smoked; and what we are seeing is the tobacco ash masquerading as a “Greater” something, without the Great one that would have preceded it! I join the poet to caution:‘people, be not fooled!’

2018 Presidential Material Communes with Base, Gives to Widows

Dr Christopher Formunyoh, freely mixing with the less privileged

Source: The Colbert Factor (Gwain Colbert, staff writer)

Although he has not openly declared his intentions to run for Cameroon’s top job in 2018, there are all indications  that he is up to something-and that something cannot be less than the Presidency. Jurisprudencial evidence points to the fact that he was on it in the run up to the 2011 Presidential elections but could not get a good platform to run on. His moves were misinterpreted by top officials in the opposition SDF who hurriedly declared they would not have any 'adventurer form abroad' run on their party ticket. Dr. Christopher Formunyoh quietly and tactically backed out, waiting to run another day. That day is 2018, and from all indications, he learned the lessons of 2011. Reason-why since then, he has been more at home than
abroad and fortunately for him those who sponsored the ‘adventurers from abroad motion’ are revising their positions.
His political manifesto came in the form of a book, the Cameroon of tomorrow,  that was launched in major capitals in Cameroon. Unlike incumbent President Paul Biya that has not gone closer to any part of the Far North where the extremist and deadly sect, Boko Haram since elected residence, Dr. Christopher Formunyoh has not only been to the Far North with gifts but has communioned with both soldiers and
displaced victims.
If he is not after something, then something is after him. Before his end of year home coming, he was last seen in the deep forest of the East, where he communioned with local and administrative authorities, giving at the same time as it were, to the poor and the needy. He has been to the hinterlands of the Centre and to the Far North West of Cameroon. His hands are full, but the most exciting thing is-he moves like a President, he is more than Presidential material.
This holiday season, he is inspiring hope in his native Guzang in Batibo sub division.  He promised to continue supporting widows and vulnerable children. In the process, he presented a discourse on ‘The Art of Giving and Sharing’, being part of the occasion of the ThanksGiving service organized by Fongang Moses and officiated by PCC Moderator, Rev Fonki Samuel.
Addressing congregation on 'The Art of Giving and Sharing'  Below is the content of his keynote speech at the occasion:
Dr.Chris Formunyoh is a household name in Cameroon, Africa and the World. As African Director in the U.S based National Democratic Institute, NDI, he has been adviser to most African Presidents, including Paul Biya, on matters of elections, governance and transparency.

Dear brothers, friends of the Fongang Family, friends of Guzang of Moghamo, and of our country Cameroon. This is a unique occurrence-a one in lifetime opportunity-to have the moderator of the PCC decent to us lowly ordinary people, at the level of the village or other rural entity, to chair a thanksgiving
celebration.
We are so honoured, more than ever the tongue can tell or words can say. We see in your exemplary action an epitome of what it is that our brother Moses Fongang, the organizer and the brain behind this wonderful initiative had in mind. Nothing could be more humbling and yet uplifting and inspiring, than the image of you breaking bread with us commoners, for by so doing, the Rt. Rev. Moderator, his entourage, you all VIPs, elites and higher ups on the social strata are living embodiments of the art of giving and of sharing generously with the less fortunate, the needy, and the less endowed. It is an art because it is intuitive. It comes from within which means that each one of us can make it happen.
Yes, the art of giving and sharing is that which the organizers summoned us today-not in the limited sense of the one day event; not on the routine of a once a year ritual; but as a lifetime commitment that brings out the best in us and highlights the most positive contribution we could ever make to humanity.
As the famous Poet John Holmes stated “there is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up”. And yes it is not just about material. It is also about sharing, giving, demonstrating love, compassion and understanding to the distress and the distrait. It is about reaching out to the young orphans, perhaps a little confused by the challenging circumstances into which he or has now been thrust by event which they have no control. But yes, the same orphan whose future your generosity of heart and your tenderness of soul could touch and transform once and for all. And yes, it is about reaching out, giving and sharing with that widow or widower impacted by the sudden and inexplicable parting of a love one, but whose own humanity could blossom afresh by your kind hearted actions that allow her to revive her sense of being and regain her pride and dignity as a full fledged member of our global community.
There is no greater joy in my mind than reinforcing the message to you all good people, that we become a great people when we reach out and become each other’s keeper, especially for those that need an extra
hand and /or an extra shoulder on which to lean. Kindness, philanthropy, generosity of the purse and of the heart is virtues that lift up humanity. Like a rising tide, they lift up all the boats. So let us pledge, each and every one of us, from this day forward, to transform the exuberance, the brightness, the kind heartedness, the
joy and exorbitant generosity exhibited here today into a moment of daily occurrence, each day of our lives, till eternity. And let us be driven by the words or one of the world’s greatest philanthropists Mother Teresa who said and I quote, “it is not how much we give but how much love we put in giving”.
Thank you immensely for your physical presence here today, and your extraordinary support to this wonderful initiative. May we collectively share the joy and the sense of accomplishment in knowing that we go forth with a vision and a mission, and the zeal to meet this self imposed goal by heeding the call when the voice call from within our inner selves or from the society that we strive to serve. Thank you very much for your time and attention, and we wish you a safe return to your respective destination after the end of all phases of the ceremony.

Latest Gossips from Cameroon---RESILIENCE Oyee!! #Writtampen

By Writtam-pen
My country People, Happy New Year to all of you out there. Let God’s abundant blessings reach your
President Paul Biya
homes and hearts, Amen. Do you know that Cameroon behaves like a jungle? In the jungle life is short, uncertain and the fruits thereof are uncertain given that everyone is suspicious of everyone. Many people including your Writtam-pen have been questioning whether it is not a government policy to allow things to go wrong?
Popol Oyeee!! Have you heard the latest from Popol? I said that Popol is very creative, smart and he always creates the unexpected. The man thanked Cameroonians for being RESILIENCE. “You would agree with me – I believe – that a single word suffices to describe our country during the year that is drawing to an end: RESILIENCE”. That is the new terminology that the Press will be babbling and wobbling over at this New Year. Do you know Popol told Cameroonians that he created more 337 660 jobs and that “In this regard, I am pleased to note that 1 175 358 jobs have been created from 2011 to 2015”. If we take into consideration that the backbone of job creation lays in electricity, yet in Cameroon, electricity is epileptic. But how do we cross-check that what the President said was a fact and where are those jobs? Oh la la!
Whenever I think of the type of people that surround President Biya and who have ruined this country with lies, it cripples me with shame and low self esteem which is deeply painful. I see now that people who abuse those who are telling the truth are just moral cowards and being cowards, fear is what guides their behavior. I see they’re not exactly happy living in that state, nor comfortable, but to feel sorry for them would be like going into a monster’s cave, seeing this slimey blob of a greedy little beast, a corrupt, evil, self serving, full of lies, without conscience beast.... and seeing that the monster is creating a living hell on earth for itself through its own greed and evil, but is just too ignorant to see that. In fact that is what has made Cameroonians to be RESILIENCE. Should Popol wait for a whole year to tell Cameroonians how the country is fairing?
Popol did not even talked much about the fight against corruption as if to say we have succeeded. President Biya in 2008, fuel prices were increased by FCFA 83 and in 2016 Popol reduced just FCFA 20. As to why Cameroonians continue to pay fuel very high remains a mystery only known to the state. Popol maybe has interest only in the rich. What is the impact of the reduction to my mother in the village that uses kerosene? When Popol took power, a liter of kerosene was FCFA 65 yet today a liter is about FCFA 365. The way ministers share petrol bonds to their girlfriends is an acute problem that your Writtam-pen digging into it.
On why the head of state decided to increase allowances for families remains a real problem. Docy men will deliver 20 children every year to grab the gombo.
Do you know that i got only a rebroadcast of the President's message because electricity went off. I hear the same thing happened in the entire North West and part of the South West Region. Chai, we are really very RESILIENCE PEOPLE

Ericsson Confiscates Radio Biafra Transmitter on MTN Mast

Ericsson Nigeria has released an official statement concerning the employee of the company that attached transmitters illegally to MTN masts.
Nnamdi Kanu

Ericsson Nigeria has admitted that a contract employee working with it was actually responsible for the Radio Biafra transmitter installed on an MTN mast in Enugu.
In a statement signed by its Managing Director, Johan Jemdahl, the firm said it had confiscated the transmitter and had notified the authorities.
The statement reads: “Illegal FM transmitting equipment was discovered connected to an outsourced MTN mast, managed by Ericsson, in Enugu in Eastern Nigeria. The equipment was immediately confiscated and the authorities were notified. A contractor to Ericsson has subsequently been taken into police custody after his involvement was discovered. He has been discharged from his contracted responsibilities with Ericsson.
“Ericsson views this incident in an extremely serious light. It is the result of a violation of its process that permits access to its mast sites. As a result, Ericsson has initiated immediate action to foil any similar attempts. All mast sites in Enugu and Port Harcourt regions have been audited while FM scanning was conducted. Critical attention was given to all high masts and sites located in mountainous areas, i.e. locations attractive for illegal activities. In addition, the Site Access Process will be reviewed for all employees and third parties.
"We sincerely regret the unfortunate incident, which violates our code of business ethics and code of conduct, contracted responsibilities as well as our company’s values.”
An MTN source had disclosed that the engineer, David Nwawuisi, “was able to install the transmitters because he worked with Ericsson Nigeria Limited, one of the companies to which the telecommunications firm outsources the maintenance of its base stations.”
MTN owns 12,000 base stations across the country, and Huawei, a Chinese networking and manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, is the other company that is responsible for the maintenance of these base stations.

PDP Gets a New National Party Chairman...See Who is

The leadership of the PDP has appointed a new National Chairman to champion the course of the party after the exit of the acting party Chairman, Uche Secondus.
Alhaji Ahmed Ali Gulak
The Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan in the person of  Alhaji Ahmed Ali Gulak has reportedly assumed the Chairmanship of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), with effect from yesterday, his spokesman, Ochuba Emmanuel said in a statement.
According to the DailyTrust, Gulak has also purportedly cancelled the planned congress being planned by the Uche Secondus led PDP.
Emmanuel said in the statement sent by email that Gulak assumption of duty was based on the declarative judgment by the High Court in Abuja, on the 16th December 2015, which ordered Prince Secondus to vacate office as the Acting Chairman of PDP, not later than 29th December 2015, and hand over to Gulak or any other person from the North-East zone of Nigeria.
“The Court went further to make an Order of perpetual injunction against Prince Uche Secondus, restraining him from continuing to act in the office of the National Chairman of PDP. In disobedience to the court Order, Prince Uche Secondus did not vacate office, nor hand over to the plaintiff, or any other person from the North-east zone of Nigeria,” Emmanuel said.
He added that a detailed letter by his counsel to INEC and BoT of PDP also specified that Gulak is now the ‘authentic National Chairman’ of the PDP, pending the election of a national chairman.
He said: “Alhaji Gulak has also cancelled the congresses already scheduled by Prince Secondus, declaring it illegal as the National Executive Committee (NEC) did not meet to ratify the dates. He said new dates shall be announced in due course after a NEC meeting.”
He urged all PDP members across the country to remain calm and law abiding saying the party shall soon be rebranded.
But when our correspondent visited the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, yesterday, there was restriction of movement into the secretariat by security operatives.

Full Text of President Muhammadu Buhari's New year Message to Nigerians

Buhari has released a New Year message to Nigerians as the yuletide is widely celebrated across the country.

Read below...

Welcome to the beginning of a New Year of the continuation of CHANGE in our beloved nation. I am aware that Nigerians have experienced a number of significant hardships over the past months. Living in the State House has not alienated me from your daily sufferings. I am aware of the lengthy queues at fuel stations and of the difficulties businesses have faced in acquiring foreign exchange.
These challenges are only temporary; we are working to make things better. When I presented myself to you as a presidential candidate and asked you to vote for me, I wanted to be a leader who keeps his promises. I wanted to be a leader who restores the people's hope in those elected to serve them. I wanted to be a leader who initiates positive and enduring CHANGE.
I am still totally committed to being that kind of leader. Unforeseen circumstances and other distractions notwithstanding, I shall still do my utmost best to keep every promise I made to Nigerians during my election campaign. In the past seven months since our inauguration on May 29, 2015, my administration has focused on laying the right foundation for the CHANGE you voted for during our historic presidential election. Nigerians will in due course begin to enjoy the fruits of all our ongoing work.
The effective and efficient implementation of our 2016 budget proposals will address many of the socio-economic issues that are of current concern to our people. One area in which Nigerians, especially those in the northeast, have already begun to experience major CHANGE is in the war on terror. I commend our Armed Forces for significantly curtailing the insurgency which has ravaged the northeast of Nigeria over the past few years.
However, there is still a lot of work to be done in the area of security. Our Armed Forces will maintain, consolidate and build on their successes in the war against Boko Haram and violent extremism. This government will not consider the matter concluded until the terrorists have been completely routed and normalcy restored to all parts of the country that have been adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Our crackdown on corruption will continue to be vigorously undertaken. I urge the courts to support our efforts and help in the recovery of stolen funds by speedily concluding trials and showing that impunity no longer has a place in our country.
There is much work to do in other areas as well and I have charged all my ministers and other appointees to ensure that Nigerians experience positive changes in their lives in 2016. We must reduce our country's reliance on oil. We must diversify our economy.
And we must do all we can to promote job creation. Our challenges are many but our determination to succeed is strong and unshaken. So too is our confidence in God. I wish you all a very

Happy New Year.

The Euphoria that Greeted Ndinjo Awudu Stanley’s Christmas Unity Cup Final that Lasted for Two Days

 By FC Ndi

A record has been established in Donga Mantung Division after the football final of a tournament sponsored by Ndinjo Awudu Stanley dubbed Christmas Unity cup lasted for two days. The final beating Formation Sango of Nkambe and Binju Young Stars ended at about 6:28 pm on Sunday December 28, 2015 after post penalty shots. The two teams moved to penalty shot-outs after 90 minutes elapsed in a goal-less draw. During post match penalty shots, a total of 22 shots were taken with each team scoring 8 goals. Due to poor visibility, the final was postponed to Monday 29, 2015.
On day II of the final, over 6,000 people showed up at the Nkambe Presbyterian School field to live the historic event. The kickoff was respected and the match started at about 2pm. Barely 11 minutes into the match, Formation Sango opened the scores through shirt No 7 and in less than 10 minutes, Binju Young Stars also hammered into the net the equalizing goal. Both team tussled until the match ended with both teams moving to the second series of penalty kicks. Formation Sango ended up putting into the net 5 penalties out of 5 while Binju Young Stars crashed with 4 goals. The euphoria was total as supporters of Formation Sango invaded the field in jubilation.
Before handing over the trophy to the winner, the Assistant Divisional Officer for Nkambe Central congratulated the cup donor for exhibiting talent. He said the first edition of Ndinjo Awudu Stanley’s Christmas Unity Cup has proven to be the best ever. To the Divisional Officer, the fact that the final lasted for two days is a sign of total commitment and good. “I have never witnessed this before and it is on record that I was part of this record”, he continued. He also expressed gratitude to the organizers as well as supporters of the two teams for their mark of maturity.
On his part, the cup donor Ndinjo Awudu Stanley said he was elated that the purpose of the tournament which is that of unifying youths has been achieved. Drawing his inspiration from the fact that the final lasted for two days, Awudu Stanley said he won’t lie on his laureate. “I promise that this tournament is going to be a yearly event whereby we could encourage talent and stimulate rural animation during this festive period of the year”. When quizzed by journalists whether the tournament had no political undertone, he said though he is from a political family, nobody was dressed in any political outfit. “From yesterday, both teams showed that there was unity. They both wanted to play football not necessarily to win the trophy but to portray that in football that symbol of unity in sports. In fact I was very impressed with the way the supporters of both teams behaved. They also showed a sign of maturity. We are far gone; there are no borderlines in football, no politics and no clannish tendencies”. Stanley also disclosed that he saw a lot of talented players who could be likened to the likes of Messi, Batetoli, Marco etc who played beautiful football. “No one could ever imagine that we have such talented players here in Nkambe. It is been a discovery and a good one for that matter. It encourages me the more that next year; we are going to do better”.
The tournament that started on November 29, 2015 finally drew the curtain on December 29, 2015 with Formation Sango winning the trophy. It should be recalled that more than 12 teams participated in the tournament. Teams like the Baraki boys of Binshua and FC Kungi thrilled the crowd but were unfortunate that they could not reach to the final.
