History Suggests Impacts of Global Warming are Being Underestimated

Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Human-caused global warming is happening at an unprecedented rate, but a few instances of historic climate change provide insights into how rising temperature might impact Earth's systems.
New analysis of one of those instances, the so-called Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, suggests rapid global temperature increases can transform hydrologic cycles.
"Our study proves that the risks associated with global warming may be far greater than we generally think," Sebastien Castelltort, climate scientist at the University of Geneva, said in a news release.
Beginning 56 million years ago, during the Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum -- a period between the Palaeocene and Eocene epochs, lasting 10,000 to 20,000 years -- temperatures rose between 5 and 8 degrees Celsius.
RELATED Stalling summer weather patterns set stage for extreme heat
Using the analysis of ancient sediment cores, scientists analyzed the effects of this dramatic rise in temperature on hydrologic cycles.
Previous studies have charted the rise in temperature during Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, or PETM. Castelltort and his colleagues analyzed evidence of shifting river dynamics in the Spanish Pyrenees during the same time period.
The analysis of pebbles in ancient sediment cores allowed researchers to estimate the flow velocity and discharge in the river system. At the beginning the of the PETM, river channels deposited fertile alluvium in the floodplain at the foothills of the Pyrenees. The deposits encouraged the growth of rich vegetation.

As temperature rose during the PETM, the system's dynamics shifted dramatically. Rising temperatures increased the severity and frequency of flooding by a factor of 14. The sudden change caused fertile alluvium to be carried directly to the ocean, bypassing the floodplain.
As a result of the change in sediment deposition patterns, vegetation disappeared from the Pyrenees foothills. The region was transformed into an arid expanse of gravel.
Scientists suggest their findings -- published this week in the journal Scientific Reports -- offer a reminder that researchers still understand very little about the repercussions and consequences of dramatic changes to hydrologic cycles.

What to Consider while Applying for a Job

There are certain things you have to consider while applying for a job. These are some of those things. Here are some of the reasons why recruiters don’t usually call job seekers when they apply for a job.
There are several things to consider while applying for a job

1. Qualification:
As a job seeker, you need to make sure that you meet the requirements for the job you are applying for; Major job requirements and qualifications include your certificate, years of experience, job experience etc.
Sometimes when they request for 10 years of experience, you don’t apply with 6 months experience hoping to be called when you do not meet the job requirement. Do things rights, else you are not likely be called. That is just the bitter truth. Make sure you meet the job requirements before you apply.

2. Your CV.
Your CV tells a lot about you. The advice is that you should have different templates for the job you are applying for. Don’t just copy other people’s CVs and change their names to yours.
Do not use the same CV you used to apply for job in a bank or microfinance in applying for a job in a mobile telephone company. On your CV, outline your experiences, qualifications, and make it detailed.

3. Location:
Your location is very important when applying for a job. Recruiters consider it a lot.

FIFA Normalises the Normalization Committee at FECAFOOT for a Third Time

The International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) has extended for four months the mandate of the Normalization Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT). The mandate of the team led by Maitre Happi expired on 31 August 2018; however FIFA has made public its decision for the latter to continue its activities until December 2018 when election of a new executive at the head of the FECAFOOT will take place.
Appointed on August 23, 2017 for a six-month term, the Normalisation Committee had benefited from a six-month extension last February by FIFA, this extension being the third.
The mission assigned by FIFA to the Committee consisted of drawing up the new statutes, reviewing the statutes as well as managing the day-to-day affairs and organizing the elections of a new executive committee of FECAFOOT

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Stoke City to PSG

Choup-Moting

PSG have completed the signing of attacker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Stoke City to close their summer transfer window.
The German-born Cameroon international has signed an initial two-year contract until 2020 at Parc des Princes and will wear the No. 17 shirt previously occupied by Maxwell.
Choupo-Moting, 29, scored five goals in 30 appearances as Stoke failed to avoid relegation from the Premier League last season.
“I am extremely honoured to be signing for this big European club PSG,” Choupo-Moting told Les Parisiens’ official website. “I would like to thank the directors and the coach for the confidence they have shown in signing me.
“I will give my absolute maximum out on the pitch, every day, to show my dedication to my new club.
“Coming to France, a big football country, is a fantastic moment in my career. I will be playing with some extraordinary teammates and I cannot wait to experience the atmosphere at Parc des Princes!”
Choupo-Moting has scored 13 goals from 45 appearances with Cameroon at international level and has worked with coach Thomas Tuchel in the past at Mainz.
The Hamburg youth academy graduate, who has also played for Schalke, also has Champions League experience.
“We all wish a very warm welcome to Eric Maxim,” said PSG chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi. “His signature marks the close of our transfer window.
“Eric Maxim has gained a lot of experience in his career, especially in Germany and with the Cameroon national team — two very solid countries in international football. His profile completes our squad, especially with a long season ahead of us.
“Our players, and the entire club, will help Eric Maxim settle quickly and our supporters will also welcome him in style.”
Choupo-Moting is expected to be Edinson Cavani’s backup this season.
