The African Union is perhaps one of the worst things that ever happened. This is so because of Africa's inability to sustain itself, take decisions and even implement them correctly. The issues are as vast and complex as the countries that make up the continent still depend on Europe and America to make any major decision. The case of Omar Al-Bashir is a case in point. ICC seemingly see only with one eye. If we are talking of violation of human rights, similar cases have taken place in Europe, Asia, Middle East etc, and the ICC has been mute.
Leaders of the African Union are in South Africa to address challenges, both collective and individual. It is not clear whether they will make a statement on the Omar Al-Bashir issue.
Events on Sunday were overshadowed by the presence of Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on war crimes and genocide charges.
The controversy added another dimension to the bigger question of whether the AU is achieving its original goals for greater unity and good governance?
