Cameroon Government Reacts to Transparency International Corruption Index

The Minister of Communication (Mincom), Issa Bakary Tchiroma on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Yaoundé responded to Transparency International report which ranks Cameroon 136th most corrupt country in the world out of 174 considered. According to the same report, Cameroon would occupy the 18th position of the most corrupt countries in Africa.

Citing the unreliability of the classification made by Transparency International, Issa Tchiroma decries that the fact that the report does not provide any facts nor reliable statistics. Transparency International, he added claims that the methodology is built in order to get and I quote" a Corruption Perceptions Index". This perception index then being obtained only from surveys and interviews made on a sample of actors whose representation in the national population, the rest is far from proven. To Issa Tchiroma, Cameroon has taken measure steps to put in place institutional mechanism like Financial Investigation Agency, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (Conac created in 2006), the Special Criminal Court (TCS), a special body of police investigation to check cases under the jurisdiction, etc.
