Water is Life, Nkambe Applauds Musa Shey Nfor

For the first time since 1997, taps are following in Nkambe town in the month of February. Water scarcity in Nkambe town was such that it was very difficult for taps to flow in the months of January, February and March. But thanks to the workaholic mayor of Nkambe council, Musa Shey Nfor, taps are flowing in the heart of the dry season. When Musa Shey Nfor was elected mayor in February 2020, he promised that his priority will be to restore water. He has not only restored water but has gone as far improving access to potable water. For one week now, taps have been flowing in Nkambe town. Fresh water is necessary for the survival of all living organisms on Earth. Our bodies are made up of about 60% water and we cannot survive more than a few days without it.
Water is a precious substance that meets our physical needs while at the same time being of great spiritual importance to many people. Water is also an integral part of many ecosystems that support us and a myriad of other species. Last week, many couldn't believe that taps were flowing in February. Yet it came to passed that Mayor Musa Shey Nfor has succeeded where many couldn't by giving the population, the precious substance called water. To succeed in providing water, the mayor of Nkambe council started by saving the water sources. He prohibited human activities in and around water sources. He was personally on the field supervising the demarcation of cstchment areas and falling down high water consumption trees like eucalyptus and replacing them.
With the support of good water engineers, he was able to discover that tapping spring water from Rangong, and adapting a solar pumping system could do the job. Water is pump into the tank using solar system and then distributed by gravity. The system is unique and could serve as source of inspiration to other municipality. Musa Shey Nfor is currently the man of the moment for his savvy sassy skills. Michael Ngwayi says the Nkambe is the most formidable mayor of all times. To Ndapkwi Solace, anyone that gives water, gives life. Children, have been heard chanting songs of praises in honour of the mayor for giving them water. Ngala Harry says he used to leave the house every morning at 4am to fetch water but would never leave the stream before 6am. Everyone has his/her own story to tell about when they sent through to get drinking water. Water is one of our most precious natural resources. Noambe has a fast growing human population, and the expansion of economic activities that comes with it, intensified the pressure on water resources.
