Ndu Council has offered holiday jobs to 100 youths of the municipality. The puils/students have been posted in the municipality foster hygiene and sanitation in the municipality. According to Abdou Borno Kanfon, Mayor of Ndu each pupil/student who has been recruited by the council will go home with FCFA 50.000. He said Ndu council has allocated more than FCFA 5 million to enable the beneficiaries to meet up with their financial expenses. The population of Ndu municipality have expressed thanks and appreciations to Ndu council for extending a hand of fellowship to pupils/ students during during this holidays to clean gutters, roadsides and landfills.
If cleanliness they say is next to Godliness, this initiative to embark on a vast clean up campaign by Ndu council will lead to a healthy environment. And this campaign initiated through the council is expected to stimulate villages to join in cleaning-up their areas. The Mayor’s participation in the programme has drawn significant support from the population and local communities who have started to organize their own clean-ups in problematic areas. Head of Hygiene and Sanitation told this reporter that the purpose of this clean-up campaign is to educate pupils/students on the negative impacts of dirts on the environment, humans and other living things.
She said the exercise also showed students the difference between a clean community and a trash-filled one. Another important lesson learned during this campaign was the power of working together and commitment to creating a better environment, she conclided.
“It was a wonderful activity that provided a chance to work as team with other students to keep our municipality free of pollution,” said a student.
