10 Best Romance Movies That Reflect the Harsh Reality of Relationships

There are certain romance movies that reflect the harsh realities of relationships among couples. These are some of those movies.

File photo

lot of people love romantic movies. They provide the ultimate escapism and feel-good factor when the forces of love triumphs. Most of the times, the reason why it has such an impact on us is because of the message it brings–a message of hope. Many can relate to sitting in front of a screen with loved ones–whether at home or in the cinema, and feeling teary eyed when that moment comes up which has the power to tug on heartstrings.
The best romantic movies do not just act as entertainment, but in fact, can actually teach us important lessons of life, love and relationships. Here are 10 romantic movies and what they taught us

1. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Life is sometimes difficult and we can feel like we are trapped in a situation where there is no escape. But the beauty is its unpredictability as well as the people who can come into our lives when we least expect it.
Be open to the unexpected happening. Even though you may be struggling with demons of your own, you never know who may wander into your life when you are least expecting it. Stop looking for love and let love find you.

2. One Day (2011)

This is one of those romantic movies that teaches us about the importance of friendship in a relationship. Your significant other should also be your friend. And like any good friend, they should know all your good and bad points but still love you any way.
Even if you do not end up dating your best friend, be with someone who will ultimately be one of your closest companions and someone you can rely on–no matter what.

3. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

Love sometimes catches us off-guard and we fall in love with the person we may least expect.
Don’t judge a book by its cover. There are sometimes connections we have with people that we may never have envisioned. Physical chemistry is important, but it is even more important that they can connect with you on other levels.

4. What’s Your Number? (2011)

Stop focusing on the past. There is a reason why people didn’t make to your present. If you are single (and single for a while) you may feel nostalgic and wonder “what if” about failed relationships. But remember, if those relationships were right, they would have worked out. So the fact is, one of you was a wrong match for the other person.
Open yourself to welcoming new people and opportunities into your life.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Don’t change who you are. If the person is right for you, they will appreciate all those things that make you different–even the things that make you uncool to everyone else.
The right one will love you just the way you are–and they will love you even more for your flaws and quirky bits.

6. He’s Just Not That Into You (2009)

Don’t wait around for someone who doesn’t behave like they want to be with you. If you find yourself always making excuses or justifying someone’s absence or lack of attention, the reality is that they are probably just not that into you. It may hurt to accept this, but taking the first step to recognizing this will be the first step to breaking free from that hurt.
Don’t allow yourself to be nothing more than an option for someone who doesn’t see you as a priority.

7. Love Actually (2003)

This is one of those romantic movies that follows the lives of a few people.

We are reminded that everyone has the same chance of finding love–it doesn’t matter who you are, where you are from or what your circumstances may be. It’s all about being in the right place and the right time. Everyone deserves love and everyone has the possibility to find it.

8. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

If someone is more interested in the other person’s status or money, it’s not real love. This has sadly become far too common with many people more in pursuit of what they can gain from a partner, as opposed to how that person makes them feel.
If someone truly loves you for you, the size of your bank balance, who you know or the material things they can benefit from being with you, will not matter.

9. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

There is sometimes no greater pain than a heartbreak, and to some people, it may feel impossible to find a way out of that anguish.
Don’t force healing or deny yourself the grieving process. It is important to you give yourself the time that you need. Don’t try to find quick solutions such as partying or finding someone else immediately, as ultimately, these are just misguided ways to numb the pain. Pushing yourself too hard to get over someone often makes things worse. It should not be rushed–take as long as you need.

10. The Notebook (2004)

True love never forgets and will stand the test of time. And no matter what, it will keep fighting and being loyal till the end, irrespective of the circumstances. There are no obstacles that are too big or small when it comes to real love.

Meet Ghanaian Father Who Has 100 Children with 12 Wives

As the entire world mark the World Population Day, one man in Ghana has 100 reasons to mark his particular contribution as he makes new revelations on his life.

Tuesday, July 11, was World Population Day, and one man in Ghana, 80-year-old Kofi Asilenu, who is the father of 100 children by 12 wives, has reasons to mark his particular contribution.
Kofi lives with his family in a village called Amankrom, a 45-minute drive from the capital Accra. His family make up a third of the 600 people in the village.
While speaking exclusively to a BBC Africa correspondent, he said that he wanted a big family because he did not have siblings:

"I don’t have any brother or uncle, that’s why I decided to have many children so that they can give me a befitting burial when I die. In my home town if you give birth to one child they will say you are important so I want to have many children."
His big family has, however, come at a cost. He says that he was well off financially, but his resources have mostly been drained due to the cost of raising such a large brood, even though he says now he gets financial help from his children.
Kofi Asilenu looks physically strong and even says he is willing to have more children - despite having mistakenly proposed to one of his daughters three years ago.
The embarrassing incident meant he was forced to apologise to her, explaining that he had an eye problem so he could not recognise her.

As for his wives, they are all happy with the set up.
First wife Nayome Asilenu told the BBC: "When I married my husband and he decided to marry more women, I didn’t have any option. He’s able to take care of us, pay the children’s school fees. They are healthy and strong so there’s nothing wrong with that."

Polygamy was preferred in Ghana, to have many children was seen as a symbol of wealth. However, things have changed with women having more control on deciding how many children they can have and also birth control measures have been promoted nationwide.

July 12 (UPI) -- Former rivals John Cena and newly crowned United States Champion AJ Styles teamed up on Smackdown Live Tuesday to take on the likes of Kevin Owens and Rusev.
The main event of the night came about after Styles opened the show by starting up a United States Championship open challenge.
Cena answered the call, but before a match could begin, former United States Championship holder Owens entered the arena and distracted the pair in order for Rusev to enter the ring. A brawl ensued with Owens and Rusev gaining an advantage by using the Pop-Up Powerbomb and The Accolade.
The Tag Team Match ended differently, however, as Styles landed a Pele Kick onto Owens who was then drilled with an Attitude Adjustment by Cena for the victory.
Styles earned the United States Championship in surprising fashion on Friday during a non-televised WWE Live Event at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
In the women's division, Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon announced that Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Tamina and Lana will meet at Battleground on July 23 in a Five-Way Elimination Match to determine the No. 1 contender for Naomi's Smackdown Women's Championship.
Flair and Lynch later faced off against Tamina and Natalya in a Tag Team Match that was spoiled by Lana. The Ravishing Russian distracted Flair in order for Tamina to nail The Queen with a devastating kick for the three count.
Also on Smackdown Live, WWE Champion Jinder Mahal defeated Tye Dillinger; Xavier Woods defeated Jey Uso; Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin were involved in a raucous brawl; and Sami Zayn was assaulted by lovers Maria and Mike Kanellis.

CAN 2019: Algeria Submits Candidature to Replace Cameroon

Indicators are rife at that could lose the opportunity to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations because of the delay in infrastructure work. This is so because reports say Algeria just submitted its candidature and this may oblige the Confederation of African Football (CAF) give the privilege to Algeria given the available infrastructure. "We are following up for a possible relocation with kind interest but until the contrary is proven, "said FAF President Kheïreddine Zetchi during a briefing held at the Sidi Moussa National Technical Center.”I mentioned Algeria's interest in hosting the next CAN in an interview I had discussed it with the new CAF President Ahmad Ahmad on the sidelines of the recent 67th Congress of FIFA in Bahrain. The discussion was fruitful. I found him motivated to bring a new blood to African football as his predecessor (Issa Hayatou)” concluded the new boss of Algerian football.

In a tweet, Patrick Mboma decries the sluggishness in infrastructure development. He is quoted to have added that he started raising this alarm 2 years ago and that something should be done to rescue Cameroon from humiliation.

CPJ Demands Justice for prominent Journalist Pavel Sheremet

Kiev, July 12, 2017--Nearly a year after prominent journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed by a car bomb in Kiev, no one has been arrested, Ukraine has failed to produce evidence backing its claim of Russian involvement, and flaws in the investigation cast doubt on Ukraine’s ability to carry out an independent probe, the Committee to Protect Journalists found in a report released today. The report, “Justice Denied: Ukraine comes up empty in probe of Pavel Sheremet’s murder,” finds that to restore confidence in the investigation, Ukraine should consider enlisting an independent international inquiry to ensure every motive is thoroughly examined.
“Pavel Sheremet was uncompromising in his journalistic career, which spanned three former Soviet bloc countries. He endured threats, harassment, attacks, and imprisonment, yet continued to report critically,” said CPJ Europe and Central Asia Program Coordinator Nina Ognianova. “Sheremet believed in the need to fight for justice, to ask tough questions, and to look for answers. We are here today to honor his legacy by seeking justice in his killing.”
CPJ’s report examines the possible threats to Sheremet from his time reporting in Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine; interviews colleagues and investigators about the murder probe; and traces Sheremet’s final months in Kiev, during which the journalist—whom CPJ honored with its International Press Freedom Award in 1998—said he and his colleagues at Ukrainska Pravda were surveilled. The report also looks at the wider climate of hostility in the region at the time of Sheremet’s death, in which journalists were harassed and threatened amid increased tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
“The hostility toward journalists in Ukraine at the time of Pavel Sheremet’s murder and the journalist’s allegations of being surveilled in the months leading up to his death, must be taken seriously by the team leading the investigation,” said CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon. “Nearly a year after Sheremet’s murder, Ukraine has produced no evidence backing its claim of Russian involvement. Authorities should enlist the aid of an international independent inquiry to restore confidence that ensure justice is achieved.”
The report was written by Christopher Miller, a Kiev-based freelance journalist and correspondent for the U.S. government-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. CPJ’s Ognianova wrote the introduction. The report includes recommendations to Ukrainian authorities, including President Petro Poroshenko, the international community, European Union, and the Council of Europe.
A delegation including CPJ board member and former editor of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger, Simon, Ognianova, and CPJ EU Representative and Advocacy Manager Tom Gibson will launch the report at a press conference at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center in Kiev, today. CPJ will be joined for the event by Sheremet’s mother, Lyudmila.

Lukaku to Wear Manchester United's No.9 Shirt

The Belgian has chosen not to wear Wayne Rooney's No.10 jersey, instead opting for the number he carries at international level.
Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku has revealed he will wear the Manchester United No.9 shirt vacated after receiving "permission" from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Lukaku has finalised £75 million move from Everton after undergoing a medical on Saturday, and will meet up with his new team-mates in Los Angeles as they begin their pre-season preparations.
And he has revealed that he has already chosen to don the No.9 jersey, succeeding the departing Ibrahimovic in the iconic jersey.
"I always asked my mother what number, and I used to play with the 10 because my mother's birthday is on Oct. 10, so it's the 10th month of the year," he told ESPN.
"That's why I played with No. 10. I asked for the number nine because I'm a striker.
"Strikers play with No.9. It's a nice number, and I asked the permission of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I want to thank him, as well, for allowing me to wear that number."
The 24-year-old becomes the eighth United player to be given the number nine since the introduction of squad numbering in 1993. Brian McClair, Andy Cole, Louis Saha, Dimitar Berbatov, Radamel Falcao and Anthony Martial had all worn the shirt before Ibrahimovic arrived at the club last summer, with Martial being reallocated the number 11.
There was a belief that Lukaku may make a straight swap with Wayne Rooney, who has taken the Belgian’s Everton number 10 shirt after returning to Goodison Park. But the famous United number 10 remains vacant for now with Lukaku favouring the number he wears for his national team instead.
Lukaku could make his United debut on Saturday night when Jose Mourinho’s side take on LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center in their first pre-season fixture of the summer.

Former Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney now an Everton player
Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has joined Everton over the weekend on a free transfer. The announcement was made on Everton's Twitter handle with photos.
According to BBC Sport, Rooney arrived at Everton's Finch Park training ground on Saturday to have a medical, according to BBC Merseyside Sport.
Rooney, 31, has now returned to Goodison - 13 years after he left for United - despite interest from other clubs. United will waive a fee and may also fund part of Rooney's £13m wages, it was learnt.
The deal is not connected to United's ongoing pursuit of Everton forward Romelu Lukaku. Rooney signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract during the 2013-14 campaign, which included the option of a further season, but the Old Trafford club have no intention of triggering that clause.
The future of the the former England captain, who started 15 Premier League games last season, was a subject of speculation for several months.
Asked in May whether he wanted to stay at Old Trafford, he said: "Of course. I've been at this club for 13 years, but I want to play football."
Rooney began his career at Goodison Park before joining United for £27m in August 2004. Meanwhile, United have appointed former Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia as their new Under-23 manager. Sbragia, who left the Scottish FA last month, spent three years in charge of the reserves at United from 2002.

Robert Mugabe

Mr. Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe is sick and has gone to Singapore for treatment or what local media say is “routine medical check-up”. “President Mugabe on Friday left the country for Singapore for a routine medical check-up,” Africa Review quoted local media.
The 92-year-old Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, on Thursday in Harare maintained that even though his party would choose a successor, he planned to contest the next election in 2018.
The paper said the veteran ruler is expected back in Zimbabwe midweek. President Mugabe’s medical trips to the Southeast Asia city state have become more frequent in recent years.
His previous visit was in May, also said to be for a “routine medical check-up”. In 2011 and 2014 he had eye surgery in a hospital in Singapore.
President Mugabe now walks with difficulty and sometimes dozes off during meetings. His health has been the subject of increased speculation in recent years and authorities in March arrested two journalists over a report alleging that he was “in bad shape”
In 2016, the government had to deny that he had died abroad during his annual vacation. President Mugabe has declined to name a successor and his ruling Zanu-PF party has been riven by factionalism for years. Despite President Mugabe’s advanced age, the party last year endorsed him as its candidate for the 2018 General Election. The leader is not the only African president currently abroad for treatment for an undisclosed condition.
Some other African leaders have also taken ill, including President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently recuperating in London. Angola’s President Jose Eduardo dos Santos recently spent a month in Spain for medical treatment and on Monday officials announced that he had gone back for what was described as a “private visit”.
Mugabe was born 21 February 1924 and became is a Zimbabwean revolutionary and politician who has been President of Zimbabwe since 1987. He previously led Zimbabwe as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1987.

Scientists Discover Secret to Having Better Sleep at Night.

Scientists have made a startling discovery about how one can have better sleep at night, and you should have a look at it.

Illustrative photo

A new Northwestern Medicine and Rush University Medical Center study based on older adults has shown that having a purpose in life
Although the participants in the study were older, researchers said the findings are likely applicable to the broader public.
Poor sleep quality is related to having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep and feeling sleepy during the day. Sleep apnea is a common disorder that increases with age in which a person has shallow breathing or pauses in breathing during sleep several times per hour. This disruption often makes a person feel unrefreshed upon waking up and excessively sleepy during the day.
Dr. Jason Ong, an associate professor of neurology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine said, “Helping people cultivate a purpose in life could be an effective drug-free strategy to improve sleep quality, particularly for a population that is facing more insomnia.
“Purpose in life is something that can be cultivated and enhanced through mindfulness therapies.”
823 adults, who had an average age of 79, participated in the study and answered a series of questions on purpose of life and sleep.
For the purpose in life survey, they were asked to rate their response to statements such as: ‘I feel good when I think of what I’ve done in the past and what I hope to do in the future.’
People who felt their lives had meaning were 63% less likely to experience sleep apnoea, a breathing problem that leads to repeated waking up in the night.
They were also 52% less likely to have restless leg syndrome, a sleep-disrupting irresistible urge to move the legs.
The study was published on Sunday, July 9, in the journal Sleep Science and Practice.

July 10 (UPI) -- WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar narrowly escaped defeat Sunday at Great Balls of Fire in his title match against Samoa Joe.
The main event of the night, Joe brought the fight to The Beast before the bell rang by ambushing Lesnar and then slamming him into a table.
Despite being dazed and less than 100-percent, Lesnar smiled as the bell finally rang to signal the start of the bout. Even after Lesnar sent Joe to Suplex City, The Destroyer again gained an advantage over the champion after he delivered a low blow while covering the referee's line of vision.
Joe would spend the rest of the match locking in his fabled Coquina Clutch submission maneuver onto Lesnar who was able to fend off the chokehold multiple times.
Appearing weakened and fading with Joe's third Coquina Clutch attempt, Lesnar escaped certain defeat by picking up Joe for a thundering F5 for the three count. As Lesnar exited the ring looking exhausted, Joe stared him down with a look of anger.
Great Balls of Fire also featured Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman taking their rivalry to the next level with a brutal and hard-hitting Ambulance Match.
The bout, which ends after a competitor is locked inside an ambulance parked by the entrance ramp, featured Strowman dominating Reigns for most of the match. The Monster Among Men seemed unstoppable against The Big Dog who at one point was finally able to damage his opponent by sending him through an LED screen located on the entrance way.
The fight then reached around the ambulance where Reigns was ready to put Strowman away with a timely Spear. As Reigns charged towards his opponent, he landed inside the vehicle as Strowman moved out of the way giving Strowman the victory.
Upset over his loss, Reigns then leaped out with a Spear as Strowman celebrated and placed his towering foe inside the ambulance as he took over the driver's seat. Reigns acted out of character when he drove the ambulance backstage and straight into a truck with Strowman still inside.
Raw general manager Kurt Angle and WWE officials quickly rushed to the grizzly scene as they tried to help Strowman out of the destroyed ambulance to check on his condition. Minutes later, paramedics were able to help Strowman escape from the wreckage. Bloodied and battered, Strowman refused medical help as he eventually stood up and walked away on his own.
Other moments from Great Balls of Fire included Cruiserweight Champion Neville defeating Akira Tozawa; Bray Wyatt defeating Seth Rollins; Big Cass defeating Enzo Amore; Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Sheamus retaining their titles against The Hardy Boyz in a 30-minute Iron Man Match; Sasha Banks defeating Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss via count out keeping the title on Bliss; The Miz defeating Dean Ambrose to keep his Intercontinental Championship and Heath Slater defeating Curt Hawkins.

Fall in Cocoa Prices May Affect Production

Cameroon’s plans to increase production of cocoa beans by 2020  may affected by the fall in the prices of cocoa. The fall in the prices development experts say may dissuade farmers from planting new crops or create new plantations. Reports say the average field price per kilogram of cocoa beans varies between 800 CFA francs and 900 CFA francs, according to statistics compiled by the information system of the farming sector (SIF). Notwithstanding that last year, a kilogram of cocoa beans was sold at 1,500 CFA francs as compared to the 900 FCFA and 800 CFA francs market price nowadays.
According reports during the 2016-2017 cocoa season, production was more than 250,000 tons, which is still far from the projected 600,000 tons by 2020. While the strategy to increase, output envisaged new plantings of about 100 000 hectares (247 105 acres) every year, Cameroon only achieved growth of 2 500 to 3 500 hectares since 2014.
Cameroon processes about 25 percent of its cocoa locally, according to the regulator, the National Cocoa and Coffee Board. The sector accounts for 3 percent of the country’s gross domestic product and with the falling prices, prospects are high that local processing could be the solution to achieve the 2020 goal.

Antimalarials of Unproven Quality Rampant in Africa

[NAIROBI] Sub-Saharan Africa  has a large and potentially growing market for non-quality-assured  antimalarials, especially in the private sector, a  study says.
Quality assured antimalarials are drugs certified by global health organisations such as the WHO for treating malaria. They contain the indicated amount of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) as opposed to poor quality or substandard ones that may not contain the specified amount of API.
According to researchers, because the recommended first-line medicines for treating uncomplicated malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa — also called artemisinin combination therapy —are mainly distributed by the private sector, studies that explore this market are necessary.
Therefore, the study published in the Malaria Journal last month (25 May) examined the extent to which non-quality-assured artemisinin combination therapy (non-QAACT) are available in the private and public sectors in eight malaria endemic countries in Sub-Saharan Africa — Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia— between 2009 and 2015.

“The rise of non-QAACT is critical not only to patient health and safety, but also to effective malaria control.” Kate O’Connell, ACTwatch Group

Trained volunteers conducted a total of 29 malaria medicine outlet surveys in the countries to examine outlets that could possibly stock antimalarials in the public (non-profit) and private-for-profit sectors, during the peak malaria transmission season for each country. In each country, the surveys lasted six to eight weeks.
The researchers screened about 50,000 eligible outlets and audited over 336,000 antimalarials, including more than 78,000 quality-assured ACT and 83,000 non-QAACT— medicines which have not been granted global regulatory approval.
“Private sector availability of non-QAACT varied substantially between countries during the most recent survey round from 0 per cent in Madagascar and 4 per cent in Benin, to 17 per cent in Zambia, 21 per cent in Tanzania, and 38 per cent in Uganda,” notes the paper.  “More than 40 per cent of private sector outlets were stocking non-QAACT in Kenya (42 per cent), and about half of outlets had non-QAACT in stock in Nigeria (48 per cent) and Democratic Republic of Congo’s Katanga (53 per cent).”
Kate O’Connell, the founding principal investigator for ACTwatch Group, which conducted the study, says: “Addressing the availability and distribution of non-QAACT will require effective private sector engagement and evidence-based strategies to address provider and consumer demand for these products.”
O’Connell adds: “The rise of non-QAACT is critical not only to patient health and safety, but also to effective malaria control and protection of artemisinin drug efficacy in the face of spreading resistance.”
Willis Simon Akhwale, Kenya-based malaria control specialist, says that the study covers a long period, and provides an opportunity to do a trend analysis.
Akhwale tells SciDev.Net that the findings could be due to the lack of local manufacturing of antimalarials and high cost of quality antimalarials in Sub-Saharan Africa.
According to Akhwale, the findings do not portend well for the achievements made so far towards malaria control in Africa.

FAO Warns of Tilapia Virus as Outbreak Spreads

An emerging viral disease observed in both wild and farmed tilapia could impact global food security and nutrition if biosafety measures are not introduced, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and other organisations have warned.

The warning appeared in a special alert issued by FAO (May 26). Tilapia lake virus (TiLV) was first detected in Israel in 2009, but was only confirmed as a new  disease in 2014. Cases have since been reported in other parts of the world.

“All countries culturing tilapia and especially those translocating live tilapia should be vigilant about the disease and take appropriate risk management measures to reduce the likelihood of imported stocks being infected with TiLV,” Melba Reantaso, aquaculture officer at the FAO, tells SciDev.Net.

“All countries culturing tilapia and especially those translocating live tilapia should be vigilant about the disease.” Melba Reantaso, UN Food and Agriculture Organization

Tilapia is a common name for hundreds of species of the tilapiine cichlid fish, and its name comes from the cichlid genus Tilapia. It is the most popular farmed fish in the world, after carp and salmon.

According to research, TiLV has been reported in five countries so far: Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel and Thailand. Outbreaks in Thailand have wiped out 90 per cent of tilapia stocks.

TiLV is part of the Orthomyxoviridae family of viruses, which is related to the anaemia virus that has heavily damaged the salmon farming industry. It is not known to infect humans.

Fish infected with TiLV often display sluggishness, lesions of the skin, eye abnormalities and lens opacity. However, there are still knowledge gaps, such as whether passive carriers of the infection can transmit the virus and whether infections through frozen tilapia products are possible.

Vishnumurthy Mohan Chadag, a senior scientist at WorldFish, an international non-profit research organisation, tells SciDev.Net that countries vulnerable to the TiLV virus need to put in place monitoring and surveillance strategies.

Building awareness about TiLV in all sectors of the value chain is also important, says Chadag, with special attention given to small-scale farmers with limited access to knowledge and information.

At the international level, mobilisation is already underway between various stakeholders to assist affected countries and get them to adopt biosecurity measures that include requirements to report unusual fish mortality and restrictions on the movement of live fish. Efforts are also underway to develop a vaccine

Football Transfer: Lukaku Snubs Chelsea, Goes for the Red Devils

While the world awaits his official announcement as the latest acquisition by Manchester United, Romelu Lukaku is already talking about his reasons for picking the Red Devils ahead of his former club, Chelsea.

Romelu Lukaku has revealed in an exclusive interview with ESPN FC that he is delighted to be joining "the biggest club in the world" ahead of his move to Manchester United.
The Belgium international is expected to be formally unveiled as a United player on Monday after the club and Everton agreed to a £75 million deal on Friday.
The striker completed his medical while in Los Angeles on Saturday and is now waiting for the deal to be officially announced.
"This is an opportunity that I've always wanted since I was a child," Lukaku told ESPN FC's Alexis Nunes.
"When [Manchester United] came calling, I didn't have to think twice. So I'm really delighted to hopefully be part of their history."
Lukaku, 24, has been the subject of intense transfer speculation since April, when he confirmed that he would not extend his contract with Everton.
His former employers Chelsea were interested in the striker, and even tabled a late offer to try and convince Lukaku to move back to Stamford Bridge. Lukaku, however, had already made his mind up.
"My mind was already set. I gave my word, and I don't look back," he said. "I didn't look back since, and I was already mentally preparing to be part of the team."
When asked what he would tell people who queried why he chose Manchester United -- who came sixth in the Premier League last season -- over the champions, Lukaku responded: "I would say, 'Who would say no to the biggest club in the world?'
"Best stadium in England. The best fans. This is the perfect opportunity. I always said I wanted to play for a team that's challenging for every trophy that there is.
"I think Manchester United at the minute wants to be the dominant team, that dominant force. If you look at their history, it says enough. To become part of a club like them is something that I really wanted. I'm thankful for the opportunity that they gave me.
"Now it's time to work hard, work harder than I ever did before. I'm willing to do it. Hopefully, it will come a good way."
Lukaku's soon-to-be Manchester United teammate, Paul Pogba is also in LA with on vacation and the duo recently took some time out to take on all comers in a 5-a-side match at the Urban Soccer 5 centre. Now, Lukaku can't wait to line up alongside the France midfielder in the Premier League.
"I've been talking to [Pogba] for about seven or eight years. And now he's living in Manchester," Lukaku said. "I live in Manchester. He lives like down the road from where I live, so we're together on a daily basis.
"He was explaining to me how it went at the club, and it triggered something in my head. When the opportunity came, I didn't have to think twice. I'm really excited.
"All of [the Man United players]. I think they're all top players, a good group of guys that is hungry to win trophies.
"And to play in front of those fans, everything is set there to perform. But, you know, I have to work harder than I'm doing now. I know the road is still far, but I'm willing to go on that path and grab the opportunity that I get."
Lukaku also spoke about his desire to once again work with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho. The pair were previously together at Chelsea but, after a succession of loans, Mourinho was the one that sanctioned Chelsea's sale of Lukaku to Everton three years ago.
The 24-year-old, however, has only praise for his prospective new boss, labelling the Portuguese coach as "the best manager in the world."
"[Mourinho is] a guy who I wanted to play for since I was 10 years old, so now to have the opportunity to work under him again is great," Lukaku said.
"We've been in contact. He explained to me how the club was like, what he expects from me.
"You know, we were together under different circumstances. Obviously, the first time when I met him, I was still a young kid, and I was eager to play. And he understood my decision why I left at the time. I returned on the pitch.
"Now I'm 24. I'm a grown man. He sees the maturity that has grown throughout the years, so I'm really thankful for the opportunity he gave me again."
Lukaku scored 71 goals in 133 games for Everton since signing permanently in 2014. The striker now wants to work with Mourinho and help convert that impressive record into silverware.
"I think he wants to improve me, make me a better player than I am today, which is good. I always want to improve," Lukaku said.

"I always want to work on the good stuff, but also the bad stuff. He knows how to make players better, and make from players winners as well.

"For me, I think it's the perfect opportunity. I'm 24. I never won a major trophy, but I'm eager to win something and to be part of a team that wins trophies, and I think he's the right guy to help me in that."

CPJ asks Confederation of African Football to Urge Release of Cameroonian Journalists

Ahmad Ahmad
President of the Confederation of African Football

6th October City 12566,

Egypt

Via Email: info@cafonline.com

July 6, 2017

Dear Mr. Ahmad,
We at the Committee to Protect Journalists, an international, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving press freedom, ask that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) join calls on the Cameroonian government to release all journalists detained for their work in Cameroon and to cease censoring and harassing the media ahead of the African Cup of Nations, scheduled to begin on January 12, 2019. Cameroon's appalling press freedom record and its continued use of military courts to try journalists on terrorism charges are a far cry from the vision of an "Africa of good governance, democracy, respect for human rights, justice, and the rule of law" the African Union, CAF, and other partners support in their Agenda 2063

Oral Sex Is Causing The Spread Of Untreatable ‘Super Gonorrhoea’ – World Health Organisation Warns

Health experts have warned that oral sex is causing the spread of a dangerous gonorrhoea superbug. The untreatable strain of gonorrhoea is rapidly spreading across the world putting millions of lives at risk, the World Health Organisation has warned.
Experts said that incurable gonorrhoea has started to spread after becoming resistant to antibiotics, which has been partly caused by oral sex and a decline in condom use.
The sexually transmitted bacteria can live at the back of the throat and, because of this, has been evolve immunity to antibiotics used to treat common throat infections.
The WHO issued a warning after it confirmed that three people had contracted the superbug.
‘Gonorrhoea is a very smart bug,’ said Teodora Wi, a human reproduction specialist at the Geneva-based UN health agency.
‘Every time you introduce a new type of antibiotic to treat it, this bug develops resistance to it.

LIFIDEP Donates Fish Farming Materials to Farmers of Misaje Sub Div

Before handing over the material estimated in millions of FCFA to beneficiary farming groups, the President of Misaje Fish Farmers Cooperative, Ngariwa Lawrence expressed gratitude to the Livestock and Fisheries Development Project-LIFIDEP for the timely support. Misaje sub Division he added has the potentials to produce fish and that the support will stimulate farmers to go back into fish farming as a reliable source of revenue and protein.
Recognizing the importance of fish to food security and it's nutritional value, is one of the preoccupations of the Livestock and Fisheries Development Project (a baby project of MIDENO) headed by Mbipeh Pius Sirdiki. However, promoting fish farming or aquaculture which should be done to maintain or sustain the farms, given the challenges that both fisheries and aquaculture are face in terms of sustainability and governance is what the project is trying to put in place. Notwithstanding, experts say the solution is the development of sustainable aquaculture, that generates less pollution, generates jobs, and ensure food self-sufficiency. Prospects are high that Donga Mantung should regain its past glories by developing the aquaculture sector.
The population’s appetite for fish is steadily growing. Carps and tilapia currently make what is mostly available in majority of farms.

Argentine and Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi

AFP in a new report has revealed that Barcelona’s Argentinian striker Lionel Messi, who recently extended his contract with the Catalan club, is now “the best-paid player in the world,” according to a statement by club president Josep Maria Bartomeu on Friday.
This comes after Messi on Wednesday agreed to extend his contract until 2021, in a deal that will keep the five times winner of the Ballon D’Or at the club until he is 34.
No financial terms were disclosed but Bartomeu told the Barcelona sports daily Mundo Deportivo: “He is the best player in the world and he is paid like the best in the world and in the history of football.
“He is the best-paid sports player because no one brings as much to his club as Leo Messi.”
Prior to his contract extension, Messi was the third highest paid sportsman in the world with an income of $80, million of which 53 million was in salary and bonuses, according to the ranking published by Forbes magazine in June.
His great rival, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, topped the ranking with $93 million, of which 58 million was in salary and bonuses, ahead of American basketball player LeBron James ($86,2 million of which 31,2 million in salary and bonuses).

Nigeria Police Debunk Rumours That Notorious Kidnapper Vanished from Prison

The Nigerian Police has released an official statement debunking rumours that dreaded kidnapper Evans reportedly escaped from prison.

Kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme George Onwuamadike alias Evans
The police said  today that the arrested kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme George Onwuamadike alias Evans is still in their custody and has not vanished. The spokesman of  Police  Jimoh Moshood, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CPS),  said Evans  was safe and still under police watch.
Moshood was denying a sensational story published today by a Nigerian newspaper that Evans had vanished in police cell and is no more communicado. Moshood  urged Nigerians to not fret over the reported “vanishing” of suspected kidnap kingpin.
Moshood said investigation was still ongoing, adding that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as all ends were tied.
“The media need to avoid stories that could create fear, tension or misrepresentation among the masses. Where did Evans vanish to? That headline was misleading. The suspect and his accomplices are very much in our custody.

“We are working hard to ensure that justice is served at the end of the day. There are certain information that are not for public consumption to avoid jeopardising investigation or even national security.

“Evans is with the police. His whereabouts is known but cannot be made public. We are appealing to Nigerians to remain calm and support the police to conclude its investigation.”
