Meet Ngenge Augustine Njah: The Rising Humourist, Peace Crusader

 By Ngande Bles
Ngenge Augustine Njah alias Dr. Agus
Laughter they say is as powerful as medicine to human beings. Ngengeh Augustine Njah commonly known as Dr. Agus is a household name in Donga Mantung Division in the North West Region of Cameroon thanks to the Millennium Television, a local television channel in Nkambe. He made his way to fame through a TV show “wipe your eye” which he animates every day. “When I was a child, my friends use to tell me that I am funny. While in Secondary School, I registered as a member of the drama club. That is how even teachers started admiring me and I also developed interest in it”, says Ngengeh Augustine Njah. The day I acted in a drama in church even my parents congratulated me. I remember my father likened me to Jean Michel Kankan”, he continued. If you have never had the opportunity to meet someone who can make you laugh, coming closer to Dr. Agus would make you laugh your tears out.  After the 7:30 pm news on Millennium TV, every little child in Nkambe goes closer to the TV to watch Dr. Agus. What is peculiar about this rising star is that he adds humour to what is in the news, transforms societal ills into laughter and creates awareness on burning issues by reducing them to the understanding of the common man. A regular show on Millennium TV says it all about this young rising humourist of high standing. Those who watch it always appreciate the way the young man treats critical issues that go a long way to sensitize, educate and inform the population of Nkambe and its environ. Dr. Agus’s “Wipe your eye” is eloquent proof that the young and talented humourist knows what society wants and he offers it.
You may disagree with me that laughter is medicine but no one can fail to agree with me that it is one of the best instruments to sensitize and educate the public on critical issues. This is why Dr. Augus has won the hearts of many children in Nkambe. “Every time I am performing any piece, I always like talk about peace, fear of the Lord and patriotism”.   Most of the time, Dr. Agus transforms himself into a peace crusader, because as he says he believes that no nation, no society, no community and no family can become sustainable without peace. “The street teacher” as many call him is very creative and has the God given talent that makes him do what he loves best.
Gradually, Dr. augus has become the man who would be invited to every marriage ceremony, birthday party, public ceremony, school graduation ceremonies etc. Yet meet him along the street and you would never image because he is calm and very soft-spoken. “My dream is to show to other youths that if you do what you like well, it ends up paying big. Life is full of challenges and determination is one that takes up to higher height”, concluded.

Mbella Moki Charles to Resign as Mayor of Buea

Mbella Moki Charles
The emblematic of Buea Council Mbella Moki Charles is expected to resign as the Mayor of Buea Council in the South West Region of Cameroon. Mbella Moki Charles according what we gathered will dump his position of mayor in order to run for the April 14, 2013 Senatorial elections in Cameroon. The only option since the law doesn’t permit accumulation of functions is for Mbella Moki Charles to resign, a source hinted. The mayor of Buea who on February 6, 2013 declared his candidature for senatorial election during a Press briefing with media practitioners has just a few weeks to be at the helm of the Buea Council. By March ending, Mbella Moki Charles should have submitted his resignation as contenders have just less than 10 days to submit their names. Yet many were shocked by the decision because after serving as mayor of Buea for closely 11 years today, Mbella Moki Charles would be remembered by Buea people for destroying many houses and business avenues on grounds that the 50th Anniversary of Reunification was to be celebrated in Buea. Yet it is now two year that the 50th Anniversary was announced for Buea, and nothing has taken place. Critical minds are of the opinion that the mayor of Buea for fear of sanction votes by the electoral wants to use the present opportunity to secure a place in the senate. But since Senators are only voted by councilors, seemingly he is better placed for the position since he is the South West Regional President of the Union of Cities and Councils of Cameroon which is an added advantage. After all, Mbella Moki Charles may likely not be the one to make a public pronouncement when President Biya shall announce the date for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Reunification to take place in Buea. However, another source hinted that Mbella Moki may likely have difficulties if it is the Central Committee that decides. The fact that he earlier clashed with some CPDM bigwigs could jeopardize his chances of becoming senator, but since he is smart he may likely play the game as he did to obtain his first mandate as mayor. Will Mbella Moki spring another surprise? That is the multi-million FCFA question on lips of analysts.Whether appointed by Biya or voted by councilors Mbella Moki Charles is likely to quit Buea Council he peruses with his senatorial bid.
Since in every truly democratic nation, the leadership recognizes the people’s right to know. Every significant act of government is explained to the people, but in Cameroon, it is not the case. In Cameroon the public is taken for granted. In fact covenant breaking is a very grievous offence in the eyes of the Lord and also in those of man. President Biya announced that the golden Jubilee of Cameroon’s reunification would take place in Buea last year. We all know that if such a celebration was taking place last year it would mean Cameroon was celebration the 51 years of reunification and not 50. It is therefore very clear that when the moment and the date shall be announced again for this year, Cameroonians shall be commemorating 52nd Anniversary of Reunification and not the Golden Jubilee.

SDF Shadow Cabinet Ministry of Foreign Affairs Calls on Nigeria & Cameroon to Seek for Speedy Release of 7 French Nationals Abducted in Cameroon

Hon. Awudu Mbaya: Shadow Cabinet Minister for Foreign Affairs

SDF Shadow Cabinet Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Awudu Mbaya Cyprian has issued a Press statement condemning the kidnapping of seven French Nationals in the Northern part of Cameroon.  In the Press Release, the Shadow Cabinet of the Foreign Affairs of the Social Democratic Front-SDF noted that the “SDF learnt with consternation the unfortunate incident of the kidnapping of seven French Nationals in the Northern part of our country last Tuesday, February 19”. The Shadow Cabinet Minister however lamented that up to the time of issuing the Press Release, the Ministry of External Relations has so far made no clear statement on the unfortunate incident of February 19, 2013. “This is a phenomenal characteristic of the CPDM regime which has always remained mute in the face of serious crisis” SDF Shadow Cabinet Ministry emphasized.  The Shadow Cabinet Ministry of Foreign Affairs also observed that “the CPDM government has no defined and strategic module for tourists in Cameroon” and judging from the statement made by France that “Northern Cameroon” is a danger zone an eloquent testimony that the CPDM regime has failed.  However, SDF Shadow Cabinet Ministry of Foreign Affairs also commended that in Cameroon there is the freedom of religion and different religious groups have been coexisting amicable.
The Shadow Cabinet hereby holds that:

Northern part of our country and reportedly taken to Nigeria.

c)    The SDF government will put in place a security system that will guarantee the sovereignty of its territory as well as all inhabitants therein;

A Rubber Stamp Senate for Cameroon?

By Fai Cassian
The Cameroon National Assembly after April 14, 2013 will henceforth be regarded as a lower house. But before it happens, that Cameroon Parliament (National Assembly) has established a regrettable reputation as a rubber stamp Parliament which is governed by party discipline. For years now Cameroonians are aware that party discipline at the National Assembly takes precedence over the supreme interest of the people and the state. This is so because like in the argument in Gulliver’s Travels, any “Johnny just come” who enjoys popularity or has money can buy his/her way to Parliament. The implications are that many of those who enter the National Assembly through the struck of luck spend their five years mandate sleeping and clapping to declarations they never participated in voting thus sacrificing the entire nation. Bills are tabled and rubber stamped into law without reasonable intellectual debates. While others pass time staging “walk outs” in protest of this or that due to party discipline, others would adopt bills to later regret in snacks, bars and restaurants where they spend micro project grants.
The putting in place of the senate implies that there is going to be an upper house in Cameroon. Yet commentators say this Upper House of the National Assembly known as the Senate may turn to be another rubber stamp. Whereas, senators are supposed to be more refined personalities in society, role models or people who have proven their capabilities. The question whether Cameroonians will commit the same errors by electing into the senate people based on party allegiance and tribal tendencies is bound and unavoidable. Even though the electoral college is only made up of councilors, I remember how a mayor once told me that majority of his councilors had not gone above Primary 7. Equally, President Biya who has the prerogatives to appoint 30 out of the 100 senators should appoint people based on their abilities and not on compensating old guards of the CPDM. Some of these old guards of the CPDM are already scrambling to Yaounde, visiting witch-doctors to be appointed. In fact as someone puts it “ a Senator should be someone who should be able to die for the truth and his/her fatherland”. The question is whether we could find such a rare specie of people with character and conscience in Cameroon. If they are not to be found, then the Senate will surely be a rubber stamp.
