Over 300 Mbororos/Fulanis to Go Homeless in Bameda

Notice to quit issued by the church
Indeed, in a letter dated January 20, 2013, signed by the Archbishop of Bamenda, Mbororo of this town were ordered to leave within ten (10) days from the site earmarked for the construction of a Catholic University.
It must be remembered that Mbororos occupy this land since 1904 and in 1933; a certificate of occupancy was issued to the community.
Today, this land is not only for housing, but also for agriculture and livestock. According to the information received, the archdiocese has asked that the people living and farming to quit. According to what we gathered 63 ha of the 73 ha of land has been handed to the Catholic Church. It should be recalled that on September 2, 2011, the Minister of Lands and state property took the decision to award the Archdiocese of Bamenda an area of 46 hectares for the construction of the university pending a decision of the Presidency of the Republic, who is the only person to assign land to any person of more than 50 ha. Did the head of state authorized and if no who did it? These are the unanswered questions on the lips of the population.
According to a representative of the Archdiocese of Bamenda, the construction of the University is a development project whose total cost is estimated at 55 billion, a sum of FCFA 18,717,736 was paid as compensation to the Mbororos and the sum of 4,866,500 FCFA for plants. Yet the Chief of the Mbororo community, Ardo Adamu Bi Mamada said "no negotiations took place between his community and anyone else about this project and therefore no compensation was received by that community."
There is tension in Bamenda over the violation of rights of the Mbororo. Allegations are rife that a delegation met the Governor of the Northwest Region to denounce the violation of their rights. A consultative meeting was organized by the Governor of the Northwest Region on 1 March 2013. The fact that over 300 people are said to be affected by the decision is creating a lot of controversy. More so, it could lead to social unrest, a school of thought holds

Senatorial Election: Wanlo John Chiamua, The Man You're Hearing of

 By FC Junior
Wanlo Chiamua John
Wanlo John Chiamua is the pragmatic mayor of Fonfuka Council in Boyo Division of the North West Region. He is a household name in the North West Region, and the history of the CPDM in North West Region can never be completed if his name is not written in gold. He is young and as such represents the youth in the CPDM list for senate. This retired custom officer is as hinted a workaholic, a political dynamo and has succeeded in making politics and development bedmates.
Since 1996, Bum Sub Division became very steadfast and consistent in the ideals of the CPDM thanks to the new impetus brought in by Wanlo John. This impetus resulted to the brilliant victory which the CPDM scored in the 1996 Municipal and Legislative Elections. Wanlo John by that success made the Fonfuka Council one of the four councils ruled by the CPDM in the fief of the SDF in the North West Region. Again Bum Sub Division distinguished itself in the October 2004 Presidential elections in which Bum CPDM also scored an overwhelming 74.3% for President Paul Biya. In the 2007 Municipal and legislative elections, Wanlo John came home more determine and his presence ignited hope in the populace. The outcome was that the Bum CPDM emerged victorious scoring 80% to win the lone CPDM council in Boyo.  His devotion for development and the politics of inclusion he introduced caught the admiration of everyone, he was voted mayor. If Wanlo John has become a celebrity in politics, it is because he worked his way up the ladder from a grassroot militant to mayor before aspiring for the senate. This is so because he has established a track record as elite, mayor and now a career politician. With all these he has been able to obtain the support of the CPDM, known as the "party machine" which proof of the fact that he has the potentials of becoming a senator.
Wanlo: The Award Winning Senatorial Candidate
Wanlo John is man who will represent Boyo Division in the upcoming senatorial elections. His alternate is no other person than the all powerful Mandim Prudencia, the woman who missed entering into the Belo Council in 2007 by an inch. This team has been described as the most efficient and is likely to spring up surprises. Mandim Prudencia hails from Bessa in Belo Sub Division, she is a tired educationist. She retired as the principle of GBHS Down Town in Bamenda where she left an indelible mark of greatness. At wasn’t cheer luck that the two were selected by the CPDM party machine for the April 14, 2013 elections.
However, it should be recalled that in 2012, Wanlo John was voted by readers of The Eye Newspaper, Watchdog Tribune Newspaper and Cameroon Post International as the Best Mayor of the Year.
However, as hinted above, the name Wanlo John is a household and ignites hope in every young man. Here below are some of the trappings of the man, Wanlo John.

His Trappings as Mayor
When Wanlo John was elected mayor of Fonfuka Council, the first challenge he made on the table was that Bum Sub Division was an Island on land in Boyo. The collapsed of the bridge over river Kimbi was one of those great challenges he had to surmount. Fonfuka, the headquarters was caught off from the rest of the Sub Division. Since the council could not the hundreds of millions needed for the construction of the bridge, he used his leadership and mobilization skill whereby the population moved out with him to open a temporary road through Misaje. When Wanlo Chiamua was elected mayor of Fonfuka Council on July 31st 2007, the municipality was so enclaved. The entire area was described as an island on land. Travelling from Fonfuka to the divisional headquarters in Fundong was not only a nightmare but needed a lot of prayers and fasting. By thenm one needed to pass through 12 other sub divisional headquarters before getting to Fundong.
In the domain of education, Bum was almost the last in the region. Under-scholarisation was the highest in Boyo. There was only one secondary school. Access to health facilities was naught. Like the Biblical Moses, Wanlo John used the ruling CPDM to change lives. Not because he joined the ruling party but simple because he sacrificed even his hard earned currency. And in fact being a senator is just getting to the summit of his sacrifices. He would not only serve the people of Bum but the entire Boyo Division, North West Region and Cameroon. However, he has done much for the disenclavement of Fonfuka council areas and here below are some of his achievements
Achievements:
His trappings as the mayor of Fonfuka are numerous. The mayor achievement is that of promoting participatory development approach. This could be found in the domain of education, health, Road infrastructure, provision of socio-economic infrastructures and providing scholarship to promote excellence.
Education
Secondary Education:
As mentioned above, when Wanlo John became mayor in 2007, Bum sub Division had only one secondary school. Within five years he lobbied for the creation of G S S Buabua, G S S Konene, GTC Fonfuka, GTC Kimbi and the uplifting of G S S Fonfuka to a Government High School. Through the mayor’s award program, he constructed a science laboratory worth 20 million FCFA at GHS Fonfuka. The council also donated four bundles of zinc for the roofing of GSS Buabua. In promoting information technology and communication in schools, the council also assisted the Parent Teacher Association-PTA of GHS Fonfuka for the acquisition of computers, printers and a generator. Besides, one cannot forget the construction of two classrooms at GTC Fonfuka and the supply of computers to the same school.
Basic Education:
To succeed in building the weak human resources of the municipality to an excellent standard the Fonfuka council worked in close collaboration with the government, and other government development programs like GP DERUDEP, PNDP and FEICOM. Yet the numbers of primary schools in the municipality were not sufficient enough the meet the growing population. As such Wanlo John lobbied for the creation of the following schools.
  • G S Buabua
  • G S Kichako
  • G S Beng
  • G S Kituma
  • GNS Kimbi
  • G S Chonkang-Buabua
In fact, under Wanlo John, the council launched the school without classroom project which resulted to the construction of classrooms in the following schools.
·         02 classrooms at G S Ngoklow
·         02 classrooms at G S Ngonavisi
·         02 classrooms at G S Kichowi
·         02 classrooms at Yunghacum
·         02 classrooms at G S Kituma
·         And the rehabilitation of the classrooms at G S Saff.
Through FEICOM, the Fonfuka council was able to acquire funds for the construction of 10 classrooms with modern toilets. The beneficiary schools of the support were:
  • G S Ngen-02 classrooms and a toilet
  • G S Kichimi-02 classrooms and a toilet
  • G S Njinijou-02 classrooms and a toilet
  • G S Mungong-02 classrooms and a toilet
  • GBPS Fonfuka-02 classrooms and a toilet
However, many more other contracts for the construction of classrooms have been awarded. In the past, pupils use to study under tree sheds and some schools were located in borrowed premises, five years after Wanlo John was voted mayor, it is now history. He made sure that he lobbied for government to take over all the community schools. And in that domain, he ended up with an excellent mark of greatness.
Stimulating excellence in schools:
In the domain of education, the Fonfuka council also initiated a scholarship scheme aimed at stimulating hard work and promoting excellence. This scheme which started in 2010 was coroneted by the fact that the council disbursed a total sum of 1.6 million FCFA to all the primary schools in the municipality. In 2011, the council while stimulating excellence in primary schools also adopted in a session to provide holiday jobs to 150 students in Bum. At the end, a total sum of 3 million FCFA was paid to them to enable them acquire their school needs. Since then, it has become a tradition.
Health
Providing access to health facilities to the populace of Bum sub Division was one of the major axes of intervention of the Fonfuka council under Wanlo John.  To achieve this objective, the Fonfuka council lobbied for the realization of the following projects.
·         Creation of the Buabua Health Centre ad assistance in its construction by the council
·         Construction Konene Health Centre
·         Rehabilitation of the Fonfuka Medicalized Health Centre
Road Infrastructure
Since it is widely acknowledged that where the road passes development follows, Bum needed an access road as well as more farms to market road in order to be disenclaved. And under Wanlo John, the road Buabua-Su-Bum and Kimbi-Fonfuka was rehabilitated to the tone of 100 million FCFA. GP DERUDEP also funded the road Ngwah-Buabua through the council. The opening of the road Misaje-Kichimi-Misaje was one of the major realizations of the Fonfuka mayor. This was when the bridge at river Kimbi collapsed. And the re-construction of the bridge over river Mungong through local revenue placed him above others in the region. In order to improve the movement of people in the municipality, the council also lobbied for funds for the construction of the bridge over river Mbuk and Nguma. It is now easy for somebody to leave Fonfuka through Konene to Fundong as well as Fonfuka-Nyos-Wum to Bamenda.
Provision of socio-economic amenities
According to Wanlo John, development is not only about building classrooms, health centres and opening roads; it is also about providing the rural population with facilities to generate income. The Fonfuka council has succeeded in implementing the following project:
  • Construction of a befitting Council Chamber worth 110 million FCFA
  • The extension of the Konene water scheme
  • The construction of market sheds at Fofuka market
  • Construction of the market master’s office at Fonfuka market
  • The rehabilitation of the Fonfuka water scheme
  • Construction of the meat sales slab at Fonfuka market
  • The construction of market sheds at Su-Bum
  • The construction of a public toilet at Buabua market and a cattle crutch.
Organized the farmers feast every year for crop and livestock farmers to show-case their production, share ideas and knowledge.

Senatorial: SDF Vs CPDM in NW, Challenges of Santa Mafia Headed by Achidi Achu, Fru Ndi

By Fai Cassian Ndi
Fru Ndi and Achidi (Santa Mafia at work) Who will emerge?
As former PM and Member of the Central Committee, Pa Achidi Achu would have folded his arms and wait for Biya to appoint him. But he folded his sleeves and moved into the contest. Fortunately, he was designated as the list leader for the CPDM in the North West Region. He represents the interest of Mezam even though he is from Santa like SDF National Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi. The choice of Pa Achu as head of the CPDM list for North West wasn’t by error. He and Ni John Fru Ndi, leading the SDF list are of the so-called Santa Mafia. If senators were voted by ordinary people, no one would challenge Fru Ndi in the North West Region. That is an indisputable fact. Fru Ndi heads one of the most realistic lists nationwide. Yet what is surprising is the unexplained reasons of Fru Ndi gunning for elections when he had earlier called on SDF militants to sharpen their cutlasses for a show-down. Was it part of the Santa Mafia? Is it for this reason that Achidi Achu was chosen as head of the CPDM list so much that tomorrow Fru Ndi will not go out fighting with his kinsman? Or it is a plan agreed upon by Fru Ndi and Belinga Eboutou in Yaounde? These and more are the questions on everyone’s lip in the North West Region. Following the 2007 Municipal elections result, the SDF had a deficit of 11 councilors as compared to the CPDM party. However, some councilors resigned from both political parties, some lost their status because they were either appointed or arrested. While elecam is still working on the final list of the Electoral College which is made up of only councilors, it is believed that except the unexpected happens, no political party will have an absolute majority.
SDF Probabilities!
Fru Ndi versus Achidi Achu (Mezam) Ni John Fru as hinted is head of the SDF list for senate. He represents the interest of Mezam where the SDF of 2007 results has 194 councilors as against 45 for the CPDM. Yet with Achidi Achu as contender on CPDM ticket, what transpired during the 2007 Municipal and Legislative elections in Santa may likely repeat itself. The SDF won the lone parliamentary seat by one vote and the council was shared. That, they say is the unexpected of the Santa Mafia. However, in Mezam, SDF runs Bafut, Tubah, Bamenda I, II and III Councils while the CPDM runs only Bali Council. Fru Ndi may easily get some few votes from Bali giving that Doh Anderson’s name was erased for Achidi Achu to emerge. This how makes it difficult for CPDM. However, Achidi AChu would need extra resources and energy to convince more councilors.
Prof. Nkwi versus Wanlo John (Boyo) Prof. Nkwi represents the interest of Boyo. The SDF runs the Fundong, Njinikom and Belo Council with 91 councilors as against 25 for CPDM at the starting block in 2007. But since then many things have happened, allegations are rife that over eight councilors resigned and some also died. Fonfuka Council is the lone CPDM council in Boyo. Nkwi may likely have an easy ride. Prof. Nkwi will have to face the all powerful Wanlo John, the mayor of Fonfuka who is CPDM candidate. Yet some councilors died and some resigned.
Atekwana Joseph Versus Awanga Zacharia (Momo).Atekwana Joseph hails from Njikwa and will represent the interest of Momo. SDF run councilors in Momo is Batibo while the Mbengwi Council is shared between three political parties, SDF, CPDM and AFP with one councilor. Widikum, Andek and Ngie are under the CPDM. Pa Atekwana will have to work very hard giving that some SDF councilors in Mbengwi also resigned while some died in all the councils. Pa Atekwana will go to the challenge with his tribesman Awanga Zacharia (business magnet) and Central Committee member of the CPDM who is also candidate.
Njong Donatus Versus Eno Emma Lafon (Bui). The no-nonsense mayor of Kumbo, Njong Donatus is the man to defend the interest of Bui. If not because of the so-called party allegiance, all the councils in Bui will vote Njong. But following the 2007 results, the CPDM has 126 councilors as against 76 for the SDF. The SDF runs Kumbo and Nkum councils while the CPDM run councils are Elak-Oku, Nkor, Mbiame and Jakiri. Elak and Nkor being the fief of PM Yang which further complicate things for the SDF. However, Njong could emerge victorious giving his trappings as mayor of Kumbo. Njong will lock horns with Eno Emma Lafon who is CPDM candidate representing the interest of Bui for his party.
Ofone Mathias Vs Wallang David (Menchum) Ofone Mathias will represent the interest of the SDF in Menchum. All the 110 councilors elected in the 2007 are CPDM. The Zhoa, Benakuma, Wum and Fura-awa are under the CPDM. However, some councilors died out of the above number. Ofone would need extra resources and energy to secure votes even though he is a political dynamo. Ofone Mathias will have as contender for the CPDM party Wallang Akwo David, who himself is a member of the Central Committee.
Cheka Gladys Vs Jikong Stephen (Donga Mantung). Cheka Gladys is the lone female candidate in the group of seven aspirants on SDF ticket for senate. She will be representing the interest of Donga Mantung as Hon. Esther Ngala did in the 2007 Legislative and finally emerged victorious. The CPDM from the 2007 results had 91 councilors while the SDF had only 82. However, some of the councilors died and some resigned from their parties while others like Calistus Gentry were appointed into government. The margin presently might not be much and as a matter of fact, the CPDM runs Nwa, Misaje and Ako while the SDF run councils are Ndu and Nkambe. It therefore implies that for Cheka to excel the SDF would bank on people like Hon. Awudu Mbaya and Mangoh Jones who are grassroot politicians with excellent abilities to convince. Cheka Gladys will have to face Jikong Stephen (Ngi Christopher) CPDM candidates on April 14, 2013.
Tabali Bernard Vs Dingha Ignatius (Ngoketunjia). SDF runs only Babessi council with 35 councilors as against the CPDM with Balikumbat and Ndop councils with 72 councilors following 2007 election results. Yet, some councilors have died and some were arrested. Tabali Bernard who is also a former mayor of Ndop is SDF candidate; he knows well council gimmicks to the point that he is a heavyweight. He is however going to contest with CPDM candidate, Dingha Ignatius another heavyweight. Expectations are high and the setbacks could play on both sides.
