Lesson from Nigeria: President Buhari to Announce Amount Recovered from Looted Funds by May 29

 As the President Buhari-led administration gets set to mark one year in power, the president will mark a major milestone in a major disclosure it plans to make to Nigerians.



Nigerians should be ready for a shocker by the end of the month as President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to disclose to Nigerians the amount his government has so far recovered from those who looted the nation’s treasury on May 29.
Buhari disclosed this in an interview he granted some journalists before he departed London. He had attended an Anti-Corruption Summit organised by the British Prime Minister, David Cameron.
“So far, what has come out, what has been recovered in whatever currency from each ministries, departments and individuals, I intend on the 29th to speak on this. This is because of all Nigerians are getting from the mass media, because of the number of people arrested either by the EFCC or DSS. But we want to make a comprehensive report on the 29th,” the President told his interviewers.
When asked whether he will also publish the names of the looters, Buhari replied, “Yes, eventually, it has to be done because we want to successfully prosecute them. But you know you cannot go to the courts unless you have documents for prosecution.
“People signed for these monies into their personal accounts, their banks gave statements that the money is there, when it came, how much and so on.”
When asked to react to the allegation that his administration’s anti-corruption war is selective, the President said such accusation was against the law enforcement agencies.
He however assured Nigerians that he has not been interfering in the work of the agencies.
He said a critical assessment of those who are being detained for corruption cases would show that they cut across board.
His administration will be one year on that day having been inaugurated as the nation’s President on May 29, 2015.

The fight against the Boko Haram insurgency is taking a new turn as the Civilian Joint Task Force actively joins the military to distabilize the activities of the terrorists.

He was caught with Nigerian and Cameroonian currency proving that the Boko Haram fighters also actively live under cover in Cameroon.

Boko Haram Leader Captured, 58 Militants Die in Raid

A joint military taskforce from Cameroon and Nigeria captured Boukar Kaou, a Boko Haram leader, during a raid in which 58 militants died, according to Cameroon’s government.
Kaou and five of his aides were captured in fighting in the Madawaya forest in northeastern Nigeria near the border with Cameroon on May 10 and 11, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, a spokesman for Cameroon’s government said in a statement read on state radio.
No soldiers died and 46 hostages were freed, including 18 women and 28 children, according to the statement. Three Boko Haram camps were destroyed and a consignment of weapons was found, he said.
The detention of Kaou comes as French President Francois Hollande prepares to push for rebuilding the impoverished region around Lake Chad and establish state authority while keeping military pressure on Boko Haram. The Islamist militant group has been waging a seven-year offensive that killed tens of thousands of people and spilled over into Cameroon, Chad and Niger, displacing as many as seven million people, according to the U.S. government.
Hollande will attend a meeting Saturday in the Nigerian capital of Abuja. Presidents of the former French colonies of Cameroon, Niger, Chad and Benin, as well as representatives of the U.S., U.K and European Union, are expected to attend.
Since taking power in May last year, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari relocated the army’s headquarters from the capital to Maiduguri, the epicenter of the insurgency, replaced his top military chiefs and vowed to recover billions of dollars stolen in defense spending corruption scandals. The Abuja talks are the second regional security summit after a meeting in Paris two years ago.

President Biya Lauds International Community in Supporting the Fights Against Boko Haram

President was speaking at the 2nd Regional Security Meeting in the Nigerian Capital, Abuja. Present at the Abuja Security Summit were French President Francois Hollande, Chadian President Idriss Deby, Beninese President Patrice Talon, Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou, Gabonese President Ali Bongo, British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken and delegations from the European Union and West African and Central African blocs.

The importance of the summit is telling. This is so because nations have understood that the fight should be collective. Francios Hollande is also quoted to have underscored the need for African countries to control the movement of arms from conflict areas like Libya. Key speakers included the host Nigerian President Buhari, Chad, Niger, Gabon etc.

Looking Glass: Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle 30 Years in the Service of Peace/Justice

Theodore Roosevelt, The Man in the Arena in (Citizenship of a Republic) wrote that “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena”. He emphasized that “The man who does nothing cuts the same sordid figure in the pages of history, whether he be a cynic, or fop, or voluptuary. There is little use for the being whose tepid soul knows nothing of great and generous emotion, of the high pride, the stern belief, the lofty enthusiasm, of the men who quell the storm and ride the thunder. Well for these men if they succeed; well also, though not so well, if they fail, given only that they have nobly ventured, and have put forth all their heart and strength”.
Talking about Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, I will however contextualize the above statement made in 1910 by Theodore Roosevelt by adding that if there is someone who owes his triumph and reputation as replica of  The Man in the Arena" in Cameroon, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle does. The first time I met Ntumfor Nico Halle in 2001, I immediately noticed that he is that manner of man who knows great gusto, great commitments and who spends himself in worthy causes. In fact, one who at the best knows in the end the exploit of great achievements, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly.
 Ntumfor Nico Halle won it by advocating for peace and justice for 30 good years. Ntumfor's zeal as an advocate of peace and justice started from childhood before he became a lawyer. This is so because he was lucky to have a father with the same proclivity, I have heard him say. I remember having heard and read on newspapers how history had it recorded that on June 6, 1999; North West traditional rulers grouped under the umbrella of the North West Fons Union officially recognized his merits as a crusader of peace and justice, development luminary etc by conferring on him the title of “Ntumfor.” It was of course a great practical moment to be taken into account given that Ntumfor used the title to encourage dialogue and reconciliation in the region. He knew very well that he must pull his own weight first, and only after this can the general public benefit.

This was went the North West had a bad record of rampant tribal wars, most of them instigated and sponsored by overzealous elite(s). Ntumfor suddenly became the symbol of peace and is oftenly quoted as saying peace is the weapon of the strong and violence that of the weak. If I am to make a critical judgment of his 30 years as lawyer, I will confidently say without fear or favour that few Anglophone lawyers have known the kind of success Barrister Nico Halle has had. That record has created an aura around Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle to the point that it gives him real momentum, and in the courtroom it’s unmistakable. Even adversaries admire him, and not begrudgingly. Theoretically, his methods—relying on supposed, rattling opponents, getting facts to the bench as early as possible, can be good materials in law school. He is noted to devoting long hours to preparing any file. But none of that gives any sense of why he wins so big. He absolutely loves his job, delights in getting as deep in an opponent’s head as he can. That is why the story of reputable lawyers in this country could never be told without mentioning his name in the first paragraphs. The fact that he is the President of the General Assembly of the Cameroon Bar tells the things he does that few other lawyers have the nerve to try and almost none could get away with the too much trust he enjoys. Some lawyers have a tinge of dishonesty; others are as good as good morning. But when some leave the court-room, you smell a little brimstone. I’ve never heard anyone suggest that about Barrister Nico Halle or his Law Firm or maybe it might have happened before I could know him. He may charge you for services but he won’t cheat. Settling a matter for the betterment of both parties has and is always what makes him different.
The last time I laid eyes on Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle was during his last advocacy crusade to instill transparency in the mainstream churches in Cameroon. I also know him as a devoted Christian and as CMF National President before being catapulted to the position of King of CMF; he left a mark of greatness in the PCC. Ntumfor Nico Halle remains the best Election expert National Election Observatory ever produced. I witnessed him dislodged polling stations in palaces. The success of the election in the North West earned him the reputation and confidence to the point that he was assigned to monitor by-elections in the West and Littoral Regions. He was also assigned by African Union to monitor elections in Zimbabwe.
Talk about Nico Halle, is to talk about development and talking development without mentioning his trapping as President General of Ndong Awing is an abomination. He brought electricity to Awing and implemented several projects. I have heard him say that "if your palace is a junk, then you are a junk". This, he did not only preached but puts into practice. His collaboration with the Press in Cameroon is great. I have heard him quoting Thomas Jefferson severally on the importance of the Press. I have heard him cautioning journalists whenever he is called up to present a paper at their event that dishonesty, slander, sensationalism, inanity, vapid triviality; all are powerful factors for the debauchery of the public mind and conscience.

UK Boosts Anti-Terror Campaign with 40 Million Pounds

The United Kingdom said on Saturday that it has approved 40 million pounds to assist Nigeria in the fight against insurgency. The UK Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, disclosed this on arrival for the one day Regional Security Summit holding in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. 
 The United Kingdom said on Saturday that it has approved 40 million pounds (about N14 billion) to assist Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.
The UK Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, disclosed this on arrival for the one day Regional Security Summit holding in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

A statement issued by the British High Commission, quoted Hammond as reiterating the UK’s continued support to Nigeria in the fight against Boko Haram.
“The UK continues to support Nigeria in tackling Boko Haram with nearly £40m of counter-terrorist and counter-extremism support over the next four years.
“The support includes the training of almost 1,000 Nigerian military personnel for deployment to the Northeast of Nigeria on counter-insurgency operations,” Hammond said.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari over his administration’s efforts in degrading the Boko Haram insurgency.
“President Buhari has shown strong leadership in the fight against Boko Haram.
“Boko Haram is a brutal organisation that has raped, murdered and kidnapped innocent civilians and forced over two million people to flee their homes.
“Their allegiance to, and potential coordination with Daesh is a reminder of the threat they present to the region and to British interests,” the UK foreign secretary said.

Prostitutes Adopt New Methods; Some Turn to Professional Mourners, Others Pick Pockets

 Prostitutes in Cameroon have resorted to other methods. This is as a result of the fact that the long established method of tradition of waiting for the costumers is no longer yielding the required income. Apart from wearing very revealing and sexy dresses free women have decided to invest a little more on the business. It is very common to see some of them



Leaving the Mortuary with Mercenary Tears.
Many free women now attend funeral ceremonies of people they have never known just to have the opportunity of meeting with well-to-do costumers and or make new catches. They start at the mortuary while family members, friends and well-wishers of the deceased are busy with corpse removal. In Nigeria for example, they are known as the “area girls”, but here we name the professional mourners. Meet one of them at a funeral; the first attraction is that they are either making or fun of receiving very long imaginary phone calls. The essence of this is to attract the attention of mostly the “bush fallers” or new catches whom they are targeting.
It is worth noting that these prostitutes dress to kill, expensive black dresses, high heel shoes, sparkling earings and lipsticks with expensive perfume to complete the sophisticated make-up. They also carry large “go-no-come bags” in which they have other dresses and toilet requirements. They are called “go-no-come bags” because the owner leaves ready to spend the night elsewhere quite commonly in hotels or elsewhere their costumers would like to sleep with them. Besides, these free women who include students and jobseekers whose parents and guardians no longer provide their basic needs talk-less of enabling them acquire expensive gadgets, like smart phones, I-pads, laptops etc. They are present in churches where the requiem mass or service holds. There they don’t only take active part in the singing and dancing, they also go for offertory as many times, as possible dropping mainly yellow coins into the offertory basket in a bid to seek notice (attract attention of would-be costumers).
During receptions, they are uncommonly active, serving mourners but doing so selectively. Their favourite mourners are always the well-to-do including bush fallers, business magnets and top civil servants. Thanks to their ability to wear seductive smiles, they end up with a telephone number of their targeted victim. Those who succeed end up into new jobs, travel abroad and or even marriage while the unfortunate ones return home with a well stocked purse or with a full stomach.  Another latest innovation that is paying and paying these women very well is the

Prostitution in Buses
This is a common strategy used by some free women in pursuit of making new catches. This is very common with prostitutes in Douala and Yaounde. These prostitutes usually with well manicured nails and very sexily dressed pay their fares, after ensuing that her seat is as near as possible to that of somebody they know is very rich. Some of them have eyes of hawk when it comes to detecting a rich man. While the bus is moving, she engages in a swift conversation. The last time I traveled from Bamenda to Buea, I discovered that the couple infront of me had just met that day. The lady was so drunk to the point that she spent the journey crying and vomiting. She must have caught a good catch and ended up sucking her in whisky. As we got to Buea, she immediately disappeared with her new catch. She had struck a good deal with him. Quite often she goes back home with a good chunk of money and the phone number of her new catch. While some have developed these new skills, others have turn to

Pick Pockets
This is the most recent strategy developed by women with hardened consciences to fleece men of their hard earned FCFA. Since men no longer dip their hands into their pockets often or readily enough, criminal minded women have resolved to remove the money themselves. Of late, I witnessed a scene in Nkambe that kept me wondering. Two young girls had landed in the town and two young guys wanted to pull a smart one. The girls immediately asked for FCFA 5000 each.  After concerting, one of the guys said he had money and home. Upon return, his partner of the day was standing by the door. She immediately dips her hands into his pocket and removed all the money. Being a married man, the young man went on his knees but the girl said she would prepare her “come-no-bag before coming back to hand back his money. Few minutes later, the young man was shocked to hear that the girls had left for Ako.
A “clando” driver on the Ndop-Bamenda road recounted how a beautiful girl working with male accomplices boarded his car one day from Ndop. She had tactfully chosen the front seat where sat the old man. This man had just withdrawn the sum of FCFA 300.000 from a financial institution. The young woman had carefully monitored him. The driver who suspected what the girl was up to and fearing dire consequences tried to caution the elderly man through signs. But the expert prostitute was smarter. With a mellifluous voice accompanied by frequent smiles and caresses carefully engrossed the attention of the man.
Having failed to bring the man to reason the driver advised him to drop at Bambui giving excuse the police control post at mile 6 about 2 kilometers ahead. But the now lovesick old man rejected the advice arguing that he had paid his full fare. Rather it was the prostitute that opted to drop after accomplishing her mission and giving Pa a fake telephone number. Her mate equally dropped. It was only at Mobile Nkwen where his journey ended that he realized that his FCFA 300.000 had disappeared. It was then that the driver explained to him that he had done everything to make him understand that the girl was a pick pocket. But in many cases drivers are always accomplices with the pick pockets. From every indication, women like expert hunters have learnt “to shot without missing men” reasons why men have to learn like “birds to fly without missing” through non-stop vigilance.

Bangolan Chieftaincy Crisis: Hard Road to Reconciliation as Fon Chafah Resumes Own Case

 Fon Chafah XI of Bangolan has re-opened case against his opponents shortly after withdrawing it. It is alleged the withdrawal of the case was withdrawn based on the advised of the Prime Minister, Yang Philemon. But supporters of the “new” Bangolan fon have allegedly vowed to proceed with their fon. However, Fon Chafah who had suspected that his opponents would be unbending did not personally apply for the withdrawal of the case. His lawyers did it meaning that the Bangolan fon could re-open it if he chose and that is what he just did.

Notwithstanding, The Eye is aware that Fon Chafah’s detractors (opponents) have adopted a “scorched earth” policy; the type adopted by the Russians in 1811 to starve Napoleon’s forces and frustrated his Moscow campaign. Classified sources say Fon Chafah’s opponents have decided to starve the soldiers on peace mission to their by refusing to sell them some basic items. By implication they will get hungry and leave Bangolan.
Recently, it was rumoured that the dissidents would launch an offensive to take over the palace and allegedly with the support of Bangolan youths resident in other towns. Besides, that it is even aired that in Bangolan some of the youths are so provocative to the point that they move round the village with their bags with inscriptions “Isaac Must Go”. The fact that Fon Chafah too has decided to re-open his case against them is indicative of the fact that the prospect of dialogue have collapsed.

Human Rights Watch Writes to Ntumfor Nico Halle

Happy and peaceful anniversary in advance.
We are writing with a lot of joy and happiness to be part of the up coming event. For sure three decades of good service to the nation is worth celebrating. It is proof of transparent, credible and fair management of the sacred gift you have in handling God’s given talents especially when it comes to money, people and institutions. Let me start with your colleagues of the prestigious and enviable Cameroon Bar Council. The old and young lawyers will storm Douala on this eventful day to see and testify for themselves that it is not all about money when it comes to the pursuit of the law. This day will also be a standing lesson for some of them to know that “until God builds a home the labourer works in vain.
Big Brother reminder, you know very well that in one of our publications we rated you and former Nigeria vice president AtikuAbubakar as some of the best African statesmen. While the Nigeria press raised Atiku high, the Cameroon Anglophone press did same to you because of the numerous sacrifices both of you have rendered to the members of the Fourth Estate. The Anglophone press will be in Douala not to praise you but to honour you as one of the foremost partners of the press.
The North West Fons will be there in their numbers, though with a nostalgic feeling following the unfortunate and regrettable nature of their union. Memories of the once buoyant and vibrant NOWEFU with you as their spokes person are still fresh in their minds. The Fons are coming with a conviction that “Along side every dark cloud, there is a silver lining”.
Big brother you have always stood by the biblical adage of “knowing the truth and the truth shall set you free”. However, the diplomatic core in and out of Cameroon will take their seats to testify and defend the truth that while serving this beloved nation as North West representative of (NEO) National Elections Observatory at the time, you put an end up till date to the violence that characterized elections in the region. You ordered the removal of polling stations in distant areas including the rock farm of former Prime Minister Simon AchidiAchu, a move many considered as having dangerous consequences. But you did it as a means of ensuring a hitch free election in Cameroon. There is no gain saying to the fact that this selfless attitude of yours wooed President Paul Biya to give you several recognitions as proof of good service to the nation.
Nevertheless the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon including past and present moderators will storm the event to sing praises to God for the invaluable assistance you have rendered to PCC.
To crown it all “peace is the weapon of the strong and violence that of the weak” as you would always say. Our group the BOTFON Human Rights Watch want to add our voice to other voices across the nation and beyond to wish you and your family a prosperous life and many more years for your law firm.
In the light of the above, we are conferring on you an honorary title of “Cameroon Peace Iroko tree”. Why such a title? It is given as testimony of the unshaken faith you manifested during certain moments of trials and tribulations. Today you stand tall and the rest is history.

A former chairman of the People's Democratic Party who is currently a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress has recounted how he predicted the rise of Boko Haram almost two decades ago.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has stated that he predicted the emergence of Boko Haram insurgency 16 years ago, according to DailyPost.
Ogbeh said he had warned northern elders to guard against it by ensuring youths in the region were productively engaged in agriculture.
The minister recalled that the insurgency, which he predicted would wear a religious guise would have been prevented if his warning had been taken by the northern leaders he addressed in Kaduna in the year, 2000.
Ogbeh made the disclosure when he spoke at the second day of the third edition of the Ogun State Investors’ Forum.
“16 years ago, I foresaw the coming of Boko Haram sect. Then, I warned northern leaders to engage their youths productively in agriculture but no one listened to me,” he said.
He stated further that government should make agriculture attractive to the youth to stem rural-urban migration, and put measures in place to encourage small scale farmers and others in agro-allied sector.
According to him, because of 10 per cent viscosity and starch found in Nigeria’s cassava, the product was in high demand in China.
He urged the Ogun State government to take advantage of the opportunity and invest in cassava farming and processing.
“We need about one million tonnes of cassava per annum in Nigeria and in the next five years, it will rise to eight million tonnes.
“Apart from that, about $480million is being spent to import ethanol every year. So, I suggest that Ogun State and of course Nigeria, should take advantage of this and diversify in the cultivation as well as processing of this all important farm produce. Rice, vegetable, soya beans and sugar cane farming are other areas,” he added.

'Fantastically Corrupt': President Buhari Breaks Silence in Latest CNN Interview

 Speaking with CNN, President Mohammadu Buhari has finally spoken out on David Cameron's controversial comments caught on video this week about Nigeria being 'fantastically corrupt.'
 
In an exclusive interview with Christine Amanpour, CNN's senior international correspondent, President Buhari has spoken about the controversial comment made by British Prime Minister, David Cameron, where he was filmed saying that Nigeria is a 'fantastically corrupt' country.
 During a conversation with Queen Elizabeth II that was captured on camera on Tuesday, Cameron declared Nigeria and Afghanistan "possibly the two most corrupt countries in the world."
 In the interview which was premiered last night, President Buhari said; "I think he (David Cameron) is being honest about it. He is talking about what he knows about the two of us, Afghanistan and Nigeria and by what we are doing in Nigeria by the day. I don't think you can fault him. I hope he did not address the press. He said it privately and somehow we got to know it, " he said, adding that his main focus is to fight corruption and not to merely talk about it.
 
 Speaking on the missing Chibok girls, President Buhari said he had not seen the clip that was released by CNN last month that showed some of the girls in hiding. He added that even if he had seen the clip, he would not show it to the parents of the missing Chibok girls.
 "How can we show it to them when we don't know where they are? If we know where they are then we can organize to secure them. If they are divided into 5, 10 groups all over the region, there's no way we can spontaneously and simultaneously attack all those locations. The important thing is to get them alive," he said.

Part of Yaounde Omnisport Stadium Collapses

Reports from the nation's capital Yaounde say part of the Omnisport Stadium popularly known as "chaba" has collapsed. According to reports, portion of the earth collapsed on the workers. However, it is alleged one person died while two others were injured. Yet no official statement has been issued to that effects. Pictures of the collapsed stadium has gone viral on the social media. I Don't Need Apology - President Buhari Finally Replies UK PM, David Cameron

 President Muhammadu Buhari says he is more interested in recovering the stolen assets of Nigeria in the UK than demanding an apology from Prime Minister David Cameron who made a scathing remark about Nigeria.

Speaking on Wednesday at a meeting hosted by Commonwealth ahead of the anti-corruption summit in London, President Muhammadu Buhari, has said he is more interested in recovering the stolen assets of Nigeria in the UK than demanding an apology from Prime Minister David Cameron who made a scathing remark about Nigeria on Tuesday.
"I’m not going to demand any apology. All I demand is a return of assets. What would I do with apology?.
"I have already mentioned how disgraceful one of the Nigerian executive dressed as a woman to leave Britain, leaving behind his bank account and fixed asset, which Britain is prepared to hand over to us, this is what I’m asking for. What will I do with apology? I need something tangible," the president asked.
Describing corruption as a 'hydra headed monster', President Buhari said it does not differentiate between developed and developing countries.
"Corruption is a hydra headed monster. It does not differentiate between developed and developing countries. It constitutes a serious threat to good governance, rule of law, peace and security as well as well as development programmes aimed at tackling poverty and economic backwardness," he said.
"This consideration informed my decision to attend this event as well as the anti-corruption summit organised by Prime Minister David Cameron that will be held tomorrow. Tackling the menace of corruption is not an easy task, but it is possible even if many feathers have to be ruffled," Buhari concluded.
It was widely reported that the Prime Minister had referred to Nigeria as a 'fantastically corrupt' country during a meeting with Queen Elizabeth. His comment went viral and as expected and sparked negative reaction across the world, with Transparency International describing Britain as 'a safe haven for corrupt assets.'

SOS!! Strange Caterpillars Invade Farms in Ndu, Nkum

The strange caterpillars have invaded some localities in Ndu Sub Division in( Donga Mantung Division) and Nkum Sub Division (Bui Division) of the North West Region. Tata Emmanuel Bantar, one of the youth activists based in Ndu has launched an SOS (step up action to remedy the situation). The caterpillars are said to be destroying almost every green leaf. Beans, maize and kolanut trees have been under serious attacks in places like Mbam Song, Jirt, Ntundip, Taku etc. 
Last week, the Member of Parliament for Donga Mantung Centre, Hon. Esther Ngala donated some sprayers and accessories to fight the invading caterpillars. Yet reports say the situation has escalidated to the point that a massive urgent action is very necessary. However, Samba Laban, Sub Delegate for Agriculture and Rural Development for Ndu told us that the situation in Ndu is under control. "The Regional Delegate was in the field and donated chemicals. We have shared the chemicals to the various localities". Samba Laban also said that he has been on radio sensitizing the population. With the SOS comimg from Mbam Song, apparently the situation in Nkum is not yet under control. It is feared that if urgent action is not taken, there could be famine. Anne Marie Nzie Quits the Stage at 84?

Anne Marie Nzié is no more. Reports say Minister of Arts and Culture, Narcisse MOUELLE Kombi
had paid her a courtesy visit at the Yaounde Central Hospital. While medics tried to rescue Anne Marie Nzie, who is in the national musical heritage had allegedly kicked the bucket at 84. Anne-Marie Nzié, it should be noted was with Manu Dibango (83 years) the oldest Cameroonian artist and still active. However, the truth is that she is in hospital but news went viral on the internet that she was dead.

Anne-Marie Nzié sang bikutsi music. In the 1940s, Nzié began performing bikutsi in Yaounde. She signed with Pathé Marcom Records. Nzié remained active over the next five decades and helped to popularise bikutsi throughout Cameroon. Her long career earned her the epithets "Queen of Cameroonian Music" "Queen Mother of Cameroonian Music", and "Queen Mother of Bikutsi".
Nzié was a supporter of both of Cameroon's presidents, Ahmadou Ahidjo and Paul Biya. For example, she dedicated the song "Liberté" to Paul Biya and his Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) political party. In 1992, the Social Democratic Front used the song during John Fru Ndi's presidential campaign; Nzié said that she was "vehemently opposed" to the move. In another incident, student protesters changed the lyrics of the song to say, "Paul Biya go away". Nzié responded by saying that the song was always intended to be pro-Biya and pro-CPDM. Of late, her support to the Biya regime earned her a retirement home and a car that sparked a lot of controversy. But she had lived in a hut and in miseries for years. Before she retired from music, Anne Marie Nzié released the album Béza Ba Dzo in 1999.

Breakthrough! Researchers Develop World's First Malaria Vaccine to Save Millions

 Scientists have made another major breakthrough discovery after they developed the world's first malaria vaccine that would save millions of lives.
The world's first ever vaccine for malaria which is the globe's biggest killer could soon be available after successful human trials.
The revolutionary new vaccine protects adults from infection for more than a year and stops them being carries for the tropical disease spread by mosquitoes.
Just one bite from an infected mosquito bite is all it takes to become infected.
In poorer countries stopping being bitten in the first place by using mosquito nets or insect repellents is the first line of defence.
Until now, uncovering a vaccine for the disease - which effects hundreds of millions of people yearly - had proven difficult.
The World Health Organisation estimates there were 198 million cases of malaria worldwide and 584,000 deaths in 2013.
The complex nature of the malaria parasite meant that despite decades of intense research and developmental effort no treatment was found.
But in a ground-breaking study by the University of Maryland School the vaccine not only immunised people for over a year but also ensured they could not further transmit it.
And giving people it intravenously rather than by injection gave the best protection.
The PfSPZ Vaccine involves introducing live, but weakened, Plasmodium falciparum - one of the parasites that cause malaria in humans into a person's blood.
Associate Professor Dr Kirsten Lyke said: "There results are really important.
"Malaria has such a devastating effect on children, especially in Africa.
"This vaccine has the potential to help travellers, military personnel and children living in malaria-endemic areas."
In the Phase 1 trial - the earliest trials of drugs in people - volunteers were exposed to the malaria-causing parasite P. falciparum.
The parasite is usually transmitted to humans via the bite of infected mosquitoes.
Previous research had shown that the vaccine worked for three weeks after immunisation, however the clinical study analysed its longer term effects.
A total of 101 adults aged 18 to 45 years who had never had malaria took part with 59 given the vaccine while 32 were not vaccinated.
Participants were then exposed to the bites of mosquitoes carrying the same P. falciparum strain from which the vaccine was derived.
Following this, scientists took blood samples from participants to measure parasite levels for evidence of protection.
The study revealed that the vaccine provided protection for up to a year in more than half (55 per cent) of subjects and also provided sterile protection.
It was also found that Intravenous administration provided better protection than intramuscular injection - both in the short and long term.
Long-term protection is crucial for people who are vaccinated but not actually exposed to malaria for months, such as travellers or military personnel.
Durable protection is also important for mass vaccination campaigns aimed at interrupting transmission in places where the disease is widespread.
The vaccine was developed and produced by Sanaria Inc, of Rockville, Maryland, with support from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health. The study was published in the journal Natural Medicine.

UNVDA Kickstarts Maintenance Work on the Kumbo-Misaje Stretch of the Ring Road

Monday 9, 2016 machines of the Upper Noun Valley Development Authority-UNVDA have kick-started maintenance work on the stretch of the Ring Road from Kumbo-Nkum-Ndu-Nkambe-Misaje. The one Compactor, one Grader, one Front-loader, two Bulldozers (equipment pool) of UNVDA is reported constantly going epileptic. This scenario of constant breakdowns have cast doubts on the quality of works, yet speculations are still rife at that it may still be too early to judge UNVDA output. Popular opinion in Donga Mantung is aghast that the road is being graded and not tarred as expected.

CAMASEJ Condemns Arrest of CRTV Journalist

On the 9th of May 2016, a journalist by name Teke Julius, working for the Cameroon Radio Television CRTV- Buea was arrested by elements of the national gendarmerie and thrown to jail. He was on duty covering the inspection visit by Cameroon`s Prime Minister on the various infrastructure to host the 2016 Women`s African Cup of Nations.
The journalist who was duely assigned for that coverage, and who wore an accreditation badge for the event saw his recorder confiscated for allegedly recording the Prime Minister`s instructions to the workers. He was later handed the recorder and instructed to delete all his recordings. While attempting to do just that, he was surrounded by the gendarmerie, upon instructions by the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, himself present in the group, and was whisked like a thief to the gendarmerie cell in Limbe.
This without regards of the rights of a journalist which should still be fresh in their minds, for, the world just celebrated the World Press Freedom Day with access to information as a major worry.
On behalf of the executive and members of CAMASEJ, we condemn in the strongest terms possible such acts which we consider as means of stifling the press. We also condemn any act of violence against pressmen in the process of data collection or broadcasting.
Also, we call on our members to stay calm in the face of such, calling on our state authorities to look into such acts, because the media will always be their partners.

Councilor Musa Shey Nfor Mobilizes Nwangri Youths to Embark on Maintenance of Rural Roads

On May 7, 2016, there was community work on the stretch of road leading to Mbu-warr in Nkambe Central. Musa Shey Nfor, councilor for Nwangri village initiated the programme which many including HRH Fon Mbunwe of Mbot have described as a meaningful act aimed at fostering development effort. More than 100 youths of Ngwanri came out with hoes, matchets, spades, wheelbarrows and cutlasses to fill potholes, clean road sides, clear culverts of the debris and dig water channels at (Mbumakop) to make the most deplorable spot below the Mbot palace. 
Musa Shey Nfor said development is more appropriate when it is people oriented and community involvement in the maintenance of rural roads could be more sustainable. He also added that if that spot becomes worst, plan B would be for the community of Mbu-warr to work on the second road through the Mbot Health Centre which will also make the road to Nterbang more accessible. He expressed gratitude to Ngwangri youths for their mark of patriotism.
