As President Biya Celebrates 34th Anniversary in Power, PAP Recommends His Resignation

On Saturday November 5, 2016 (the eve of Biya's 34th anniversary as president), the National Strategic Team of Popular Action Party, PAP gathered at the Yaounde residence of their Secretary General, Akoson Raymond.  Paul Biya’s performance as president in the past 34 years in office was fairly assessed and his Report Card is hereby published.
The PAP team comprising mostly youth politicians evaluated president Biya on both the Domestic and International Affairs. On Domestic Affairs, nine elements were considered namely: the Economy, Education, Health, Democracy, Energy, Security, Transportation, Communication and Sports. On Foreign Affairs, Biya was scored on International Cooperation.
On the whole, the youth politicians scored Biya a Grade F and asked him to Resign.

ECONOMY
In most of 1981, Cameroon’s GDP growth rate stood at 17.1% (Source: ReSAKSS, based on World Bank 2014). This means President Paul Biya inherited a very healthy economy from his predecessor on November 6, 1982. Despite richly blessed soils and fertile lands on which all manner of agricultural products [coffee, cocoa, cotton, rubber, bananas, oilseed, grains, cassava (manioc, tapioca); livestock; timber] do well, and endowment of enormous mineral resources [Oil, hydroelectric power, natural gas, cobalt, nickel], in 2016, the economy has nose-dived to the neighbourhoods of 4% GDP growth rate.
What’s worse? Little can be seen in economic growth terms from all the loans we have taken. According to the Autonomous Amortisation Fund (CAA), the public organisation in charge of managing public borrowing, Cameroon reached FCFA 4,502 billion during the first quarter of 2016 (3,480 billion representing the external debts and FCFA 1,023 billion of domestic debts).
The unemployment rate is 30% while that of underemployment stands at 75% (International Labor Organization). Our human potential (mental capacity) is fleeing the country for jobs and better options elsewhere. President Biya has failed woefully in the business of reducing unemployment by industralising our economy; create industries that transform raw materials into finished products for national, regional and international exportation. There’s no concrete framework to encourage youth entrepreneurial spirit with accompanying flexible loan structure.
Increase in agricultural production and the rise in the per-capita income of the rural community, together with industrialisation and urbanisation, lead to more increased demand in industrial production. President Biya just doesn’t know this.
PAP therefore scores him F for a missed opportunity and wasted 34 years in office!
 DEMOCRACY
To fairly score President Biya, Popular Action Party, PAP of Justice AYAH Paul splits democracy into five different elements namely: Personal Freedoms, Press Freedoms, Political Freedoms, Political Equality, The Rule of Law, The Common Good, Human Dignity, Being Informed and Getting Involved, and Respect. Before we make an analysis of these elements, it is worth mentioning that contrary to what some say, that Biya ‘gave Cameroonians democracy’, this is completely false! On February 19, 1990, officers from the CENER, Cameroon’s national intelligence service, raided the home and office of Yondo Mandengue Black in the city of Douala. They arrested him and confisticated a draft document titled “Coordination Nationale pour la démocratie et le multipartisme” (National Coordination for Democracy and Multipartyism). And in Bamenda on May 26, 1990 Fru Ndi defied government ban and organized a rally where the SDF was launched … the lives of six Cameroonians ushered in democracy to Cameroon.
·         Personal Freedoms: Freedom of assembly for religious purposes has been good but such is hugely undermined by freedom of individual expression. Biya’s men in uniforms has mightily clamped down on individuals who’ve voiced personal opinions on burning political issues in the country. Biya scores a D on this.

·         Political Freedoms: Though it is easy to form political associations in Cameroon, PAP notes that the proliferation of political parties is a Biya design to weaken the opposition. The intelligence unit of the PAP Strategic deciphers four categories of opposition political parties: satellite parties erected by Biya to spy on and weaken the opposition (some now called presidential majority), political parties for Business purposes (to enjoy campaign funds), real opposition political parties (those that are consistently banned such as PAP from public manifestations), parties that originally had good intensions but now cooperate with Biya’s CPDM to colour Cameroon’s democracy in the eyes of the international community;

-          Skyrocketing amounts are fixed for ordinary Cameroonians to cough out to register to run for council, parliamentary and presidential elections thus making the dividends of democracy for the rich only!

-          Election managing bodies (MINAT, NEO and ELECAM) are designed to rig elections for Biya;

-          Intimidation at the polls and vote buying: Vote buying is the norm. Citizens who stand up to the status quo are intimidated. There are clear and documented cases of elites protecting the regime getting into polling stations with guns and knives. These cases are not isolated. PAP scores Biya an F on EMB;

-          Protest Groups: No allowance for political manifestation against the regime.
PAP scores Biya an F on political freedoms

·         Press Freedoms: There’s systemic clampdown on the press and the media in general. Twitter has consistently been shut down and press organs critical of the government are either severely sanctioned or bought over. PAP scores Biya an F on Press Freedoms.

·         The Rule of Law: For the sake of justice, everyone must adhere to the same laws. These laws are known, predictable and impartial (unbiased). However, the justice system in Cameroon is highly rigged; justice is bought, the police and the magistrates/judges are the most corrupt in the world. Generally, the system is characterized by arrest without due process, endemic corruption, long term detention without trial, inhuman treatment and torture of citizens etc. PAP scores Biya F on the Rule of Law.
PAP therefore scores Biya an F on Democracy.

Facebook Redesigns Safety Centre to Protect Users...See the New Features

In order to protect Facebook users online, Facebook has introduced new features as it redesigns its safety centre.
*Photo used for illustrative purpose*
The Chief Security Officer at Facebook, Mr Alex Stamos, says the company has redesigned its Safety Centre to enable people stay safe online.
Stamos said in a statement on Friday in Lagos that the redesigned safety centre was the company’s approach to making the internet more secure for everyone. The statement said that keeping people and their information safe was a core part of helping the community to grow, connect and support each other.
According to the statement, Facebook builds security protections to help keep people safe, even under non-ideal circumstances that security professionals often overlook, such as weak password usage or running out-of-date devices.
It added that the company performed automated checks to help to detect suspicious logins so as to protect people’s accounts.
It said that the company also shipped its own cryptography with their mobile app to make people more secure on those devices.
The statement said that there was the need for consumer awareness about safety and security to protect their information and build their confidence while online.
“Nigeria officially recognised National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October, underscoring the need to educate the public about how to protect themselves.
“This focus on awareness is at the heart of Facebook’s newly redesigned Safety Centre, an engaging resource to help people to get the information they need about controlling their information and staying safe.
“People come to Facebook to share important and personal moments in their lives. That is why we build our services and tools to help them to remain in control and protect their accounts.
“We always have to consider the situations in which our technology will be used so that we can offer people the best security and safety for what they need,’’ it said.
“The new Safety Centre walks people through Facebook-tools to control your experience as well as numerous tips and resources for safe and secure sharing.
“The Safety Centre is available in over 50 languages; works well on mobile devices and includes step-by-step videos on a variety of popular safety topics.’’
The statement said that Facebook worked with partners, including the International Centre for Leadership Development in Nigeria and Watoto Watch Network in Kenya to bring its safety resources to life and address local communities.
“This update also brings the Bullying Prevention Hub to everyone on Facebook. The Hub is a resource for teens, parents and educators seeking guidance on how to prevent and address bullying.
“Developed with the Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence in 2013, Facebook now works with nearly 60 partners around the world to make the Bullying Prevention Hub more widely available.
“For Facebook, making the world more open and connected also means keeping people and their information safe. Check out the new Facebook Safety Centre today,’’ it quoted Stamos as saying.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Facebook was founded in 2004, with a mission to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.
People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what is going on in the world and to share and express what matters to them.
Facebook has 1.04 billion daily active users on average worldwide and 7.2 million daily visitors from Nigeria.

U.S Election: Hillary Clinton Takes 3-point Poll Lead over Donald Trump

Despite the e-mail leak of Hillary Clinton as exposed by Wiki Leaks, she is still topping her counterpart Donald Trump in the presidential polls.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton
With four days to go before election day, one new poll gives Hillary Clinton a three-point national lead over Donald Trump.
The poll also suggests that the majority of voters have already made up their minds and that the latest revelations and accusations about both candidates have made marginal difference.
The poll published by New York Times/CBS News gives a small lead to the Democrats, saying 45% of voters are supporting Mrs Clinton, with 42 backing Mr Trump. While that lead may be leapt on by supporters of Mrs Clinton, experts point out that it is within the poll’s margin of sampling error.  The poll puts Libertarian Party candidate, Gary Johnson, on five points and Green Party candidate, Jill Stein, on four points.
More than 22 million Americans have already cast their ballots, and roughly one in five likely voters who participated in the poll said they had already voted.
The findings of that poll are very similar to one commissioned by ABC News/Washington Post which have been operating a tracking poll that scored the race 47-45 in favor of Mrs Clinton.
Pollsters said the race has gone from a one-point advantage in favour of Mr Trump to a two-point lead to Mrs Clinton over the last four averages.
The nationwide polls may underscore the advantage most experts believe Mrs Clinton has, based on the fact that she is leading in many swing states such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin that are all but essential to secure if a candidate is to reach the White House.

Other battleground states, including New Hampshire and Colorado, suggested a slight lead for Mr Trump.

Looking Glass: Mystical Monkey Picks Donald Trump as Next U.S President

Donald Trump is favoured to trounce his Democratic Party counterpart, Hillary Clinton in the highly heated U.S election which is 4 days away.
The mstical monkey kissing Donald Trump as it predits him as winner

A Chinese monkey described as the “king of prophets” has tipped Donald Trump for the US presidency, a tourism park said, after the creature successfully predicted the winner of football’s European Championship final earlier this year.

Known as Geda which means knots or goose bumps, the prophetic primate is the latest in a series of purportedly psychic animals that have popped up around the world since Paul the Octopus correctly predicted multiple 2010 World Cup matches.
The simian seer, wearing a yellow shirt emblazoned with his title, was given a chance to pick between bananas placed beside life-sized cut-outs of Republican Trump and his Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton.
After “deliberate thought” the mystic monkey chose Trump, Shiyanhu Ecological Tourism Park said Thursday in a statement on its website. Without even waiting, he congratulated the cardboard candidate with a kiss on the lips.
The five-year-old simian correctly predicted Portugal would win the 2016 European football championship in July, two days before Cristiano Ronaldo’s side prevailed 1-0, online news portal ifeng.com reported at the time.
Then, the monkey was presented with the national flags of Portugal and France with bananas on both. It finally walked towards the national flag of Portugal and ate a banana there, the report said.
Geda’s antics seem to have been inspired by the oracular octopus Paul. In 2010, Paul the Octopus became the world’s most famous mollusc when he foretold the results of every match played by Germany at the World Cup in South Africa, as well as Spain’s victory against the Netherlands in the final.

Looking Glass: Meet Raphael Tuju, Kenya's Most Successful Billionaire Journalist in Africa

ead the inspiring life of Raphael Tuju who is now rated as the most successful billionaire journalist in Kenya.

Raphael Tuju is the most successful journalist in Kenya
Raphael Tuju is the most successful Kenyan journalist, a billionaire and a top political figure in his country. Many do not know that the man who is a top political figure in his country was a successful journalist with international news organisation like the CNN.

According to The Kenyans, Tuju had been one of Kenya's pioneer TV anchors in the late 1980s and early 1990s. At the time, KTN was the only privately owned television station and his colleagues included Catherine Kasavuli, Joseph Warugu, Zain Verjee (who later rose to become a top anchor at CNN), Kathleen Openda and Njoroge Mwaura.

Like most journalists, the newscaster did not earn much in spite of the celebrity status he had acquired from appearing on the silver screen.

“I know what it’s like to be reading TV news wearing a nice jacket and tie and not so nice trousers, and then to go home in a matatu people think you shouldn’t be in. They can’t reconcile the glamorous public persona with the very humble life you are living. As a career, journalism is transient. People do it to move on to something else because it does not pay so well,” the father of three revealed in a past interview.

Tuju started his transition journey by painfully saving his income and invested his money in land. He would later make another wise decision when he opened a TV production studio.

“When I was buying my two-and-a-half acres of land in Karen, I lived in Buru Buru. But when some of my colleagues got money they went to the best pubs in town and the most significant discotheques of the time. Me? Whatever little I got, I put into real estate,” he narrates.

As the newscaster continued to present news, he was actively working on his studio which later became a company, Ace Communications, where he moved full-time as the CEO.

Unlike most of his colleagues in politics who made their money in government deals, Tuju’s company gained an international reputation for its quality documentaries and attracted high-ranking clients such as the UN, World Bank and the DFID.

Those who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s will recall the scary HIV documentaries shown as part of sex education - all done by Ace Communications. At one time, the journalist's company became the biggest consultant in Africa and made Tuju the first African to win an Emmy award.

As his international business thrived, he shifted his base to Maryland in the United States where he lived for six years. Tuju sold his studios and shifted his attention to real estate and politics in 2002.

His real-estate interests are reported to be worth billions with numerous tracts of commercial land in Karen and in Upperhill. He remains a silent shareholder at Ace Communications.

Tuju is also the owner of the high-end Dari Restaurant in Karen.

After becoming a minister in 2003, he surprised many of his colleagues after he banned his company from receiving any deals with the government in order to avoid a conflict of interest.

Jose Mourinho Bashes Mkhitaryan After Manchester United's Defeat Euro League Clash

Jose Mourinho has blasted Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the wake of Manchester United's defeat to Fenerbahce.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The £26 million summer signing from Borussia Dortmund made his long-awaited comeback on Thursday evening as United slipped to a 2-1 loss in Turkey.
Before coming on as a second-half substitute against Fenerbahce, Mkhitaryan hadn’t featured for United since he was brought off at half-time in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on September 10.
And Mourinho admits he’s unhappy with the midfielder’s current levels of effort at Old Trafford. "He has to do more. It’s as simple as that" Mourinho said after the match.
"We have big expectations at this club, lots of players for these positions and he has to play better than [Juan] Mata, [Jesse] Lingard, [Anthony] Martial… he has to play better than them. It’s as simple as that.
"Every manager wants to win matches, every manager in the world wants to play the players that he thinks can help the team more, and I’m no different."

Plantain Cures Ulcers, Diabetes and S*xual Dysfunctions-Expert says

An expert has made a shocking revelation which might interest many people after revealing that plantain cures ulcers, diabetes and s*xual dysfunctions.
file photo

Grown throughout the tropical regions of the world, the plantain is a close relative of the banana, making important contributor to the economy of many countries. The nutritional value of unripe plantain makes it stand out as a very important addition to any healthy living diet plan due to its nutrient content.

Practitioners of traditional medicine have long prized the starchy fruit for its medicinal properties, which reputedly include an ability to cure ulcer. It is used in herbal medicine to treat sluggish bowels, to heal wounds, to fight skin infections, to reduce phlegm, to soothe urinary tract infections, and to ease dry coughs.

Most ulcers are not caused directly by stress but by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which is why ulcers today are often treated with antibiotics along with an acid suppressor. Studies on rats with ulcers caused by daily aspirin use have shown that unripe green plantain can both prevent the formation of ulcers and help to heal them. The agent believed to be responsible for plantain’s curative effects was tested it in rats.

Scientists reason that the starch in plantain’s unripe form helps to decrease acidity and reduce irritation. It stimulates the cells on the lining of the stomach to produce mucus that is thicker, which guards against acid aside its elimination of stomach bacteria that has been pointed as the main cause of ulcers.

Moreover, in a review that appeared in a 2002 issue of the “Indian Journal of Pharmacology,” two researchers that chronicled more than 30 years of research into the curative properties of dried powder of unripe plantain also conclude that the plantain powder is a potent herbal remedy for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease.

Medical research confirms that the plantain is also good for many of life’s ailments including diabetes. Unripe plantain has the potential of lowering blood sugar, according to a study, titled “Hypoglycemic effect of methanolic extract of Musa paradisiaca (Musaceae) green fruits in normal and diabetic mice”. It was published in Experimental Clinical Pharmacology by J. A. Ojewole and C. O. Adewunmi.

Although this group of researchers do not know the precise mechanism of the hypoglycemic (blood sugar-lowering) action of unripe plantain, they suggested that it could be due, at least in part, to stimulation of insulin production and subsequent glucose utilisation.

Nevertheless, the findings of this experimental animal study indicate that unripe plaintain possesses hypoglycemic activity lends credence to its folkloric use in the management and/or control of adult-onset, type-2 diabetic mellitus among the Yoruba-speaking people of South-Western Nigeria.

In addition, diabetic patients are more prone developing stomach ulcers because they are at risk to acquire H. Pylori infection due to their blood glucose concentration levels. Unfortunately, the high blood sugar also contributes to a delay in the healing of this ulcer.

But Indian researchers, looking into the benefit of unripe plantain in diabetic animals that also had ulcer, indicated that it could be more effective in diabetes with concurrent gastric ulcer.

The 2013 study published in the BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine was entitled “Healing effects of Musa sapientum var. paradisiaca in diabetic rats with co-occurring gastric ulcer: cytokines and growth factor by PCR amplification.”

In the studied animals, they said the extract of the unripe plantain promoted ulcer healing because of its effects on the lining of the intestine by stimulating cells on the lining of the stomach to produce mucus that is thicker, thus given the ulcers time to heal. It also reduced the free radicals that were generated.

They wrote: “extract of Musa sapientum fruit (MSE) showed antidiabetic and better ulcer healing effects compared with OMZ (Omeprazole an antiulcer); or INS (insulin) in diabetic rat and could be more effective in diabetes with concurrent gastric ulcer.

"They reasoned that the presence of many chemical substances like flavonoids, saponins, glycosides and alkaloids in unripe plantain probably contribute to ensuring healing of chronic diabetic gastric ulcer, concluding that “unripe plantain could be a better choice in diabetes with concurrent peptic ulcer”.

Previously, a meal of unripe plantain with local spices like cloves, onions, garlic and ginger has been purported as the answer also to erectile dysfunction, low sperm count, kidney problems and high blood pressure.

How is it used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction or low sperm count? Reverend Fr. Anslem Adodo, Director, Pax Herbal Clinic and Research Centre Ewu, Edo State, who was of the opinion that roasted plantain is good for men, suggested that men should make it a habit of eating one or two roasted plantain daily.

Reverend Fr. Anslem Adodo added: “Take more plantain or unripe bananas. They help to rejuvenate the sexual organ with high level of potassium. Include garlic in every meal. Garlic is generally a good anti oxidant and a good remedy for impotence in particular. Include ginger in every meal too. Ginger has healing properties to treat erectile dysfunction."

The billionaire business tycoon, has now revealed why she did not go to university.
According to her, it was not her destiny as she was able to achieve her dreams without a degree.
DailyPost reports that Alakija said this on Thursday at the Excellence in Leadership program, an annual event organised by Daystar Christian Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.
The founder of Rose of Sharon motivated the audience by saying that she never allowed a lack of university education to suppress her dreams and ambition.
“If I had the opportunity of going to the university, maybe I would have come out with a second class upper or lower but that didn’t happen; that wasn’t to be my destiny,” she said.
“I would have loved to go to the university as we all know that university education is good but some of us who have not gone, it is not the end of the world”, she added.
Alakija said she was able to attain her present position because she was determined and ready to pay the price that came with all the challenges she’s had to surmount.
“Having put my foot in the door, I decided I was not going to turn back”, she noted, revealing that when she had to file a lawsuit against the federal government for taking 50 out of her 60 percent equity, she remained determined.
The case which took 12 years to reach a conclusion was a matter of determination, she said.
The oil magnate noted that she is a product of hard work, sweat, tears, and tenacity, stressing that she’s not an overnight success.
“A lot of things have been said about me, some say I sold my way to the top; I remember that the headline of one of the national dailies in the country once said ‘Hairdresser given an oil block’. So I even became a hairdresser, one of the many names I was given”, she said.

I'll Destroy My Greencard If Donald Trump Wins - Prof. Wole Soyinka

Nigerian legendary writer, Wole Soyinka has threatened to leave the United States of America should Republican Party candidate win the presidential election.
Wole Soyinka

Professor Wole Soyinka may be apparently pitching his tent with United States Democratic Party candidate, Hillary Clinton, as the presidential election draws nearer.

The Nigerian Nobel-winning author, now living in the US, tells Oxford students that it is up to young people to stand against ‘ultranationalism’ – in a speech that also took aim at Brexit and Bob Dylan.
The Nobel literature laureate Wole Soyinka has told students that if Donald Trump is elected president of the United States next week, he will leave the country according to the Guardian.
“If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that,” said Soyinka, who is scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs this autumn.
“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”
The Nigerian playwright and poet, who was imprisoned in Nigeria during its civil war, later fleeing the country and receiving a death sentence in absentia, urged young people to stand up against oppression.
Giving a seminar to students at Oxford University, he also laid into Brexit, saying it was a “ridiculous decision”, and part of an international rise in what he called “ultranationalism”.
"It’s a constant fight to try to get a nation to recognise its own noble persuasions … the loftiness of human possibility
“What is happening in Europe shouldn’t surprise any of us … It has happened before,” he said. “We were here when Enoch Powell was leading his thugs out to drive blacks from here … it’s a constant fight to try to get a nation to recognise its own noble persuasions, its own persuasions of the loftiness of human possibility. It’s for young people like you to say no to them whenever that happens.”

Lesson from Nigeria: Buhari to Increase Workers' Salaries

President Buhari could sanction the increment of workers' salaries as negotiations with NLC and TUC representatives progress.
There are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari, might soon increase workers minimum wage, as a the Federal Government delegation will be having a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, on Tuesday, November 1st, for deliberation on the issue.
According to news reports on DailyTimes, the meeting is said to initiate modalities, that will guide negotiations for the new N56,000 minimum wage, proposed by the worker's union.
It could be recalled that the organised Labour Unions, had on May 1st, during their workers day celebration, demanded for a new minimum wage of N56,000, with the Federal Government agreeing to set up a joint committee to begin negotiations.
The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, confirming the proposed talks scheduled for today, described the renewed negotiation, as a step in the right direction.
He said, “We have submitted that demand. As I speak with you, the negotiation committee has not even taken off, but what I was informed two days ago, is that the process has been ongoing at different levels, because there are various people driving the process.”
Based on his submission, the Labour leaders met on Monday, October 31st, to finalize their position, preparatory to their meeting with the government team today.
“They will then meet with the government side tomorrow (Tuesday). They want to tidy up the report, including the membership of the team, that is supposed to negotiate the minimum wage,” Wabba said.

After 8 Days without Electricity, Nkambe Population Threaten to Go on Strike

circuit breaker that was burnt down

Youths in Nkambe are threatening to go to the street if the electricity supply company, ENEO doesn’t bring back electricity in the Divisional headquarter, which has been in darkness for 8 days today. The population we gathered is about to vent their frustration for being neglected. “It is sad that for eight days now, we have been in the dark, cold stores, barbing shops, electronic store, etc are completely out of business”, one young man exploded in frustration. Radio stations have been temporarily shutdown for lack of electricity as well.  Mercy Nkeni says she lost her android phone while charging using a generator and several people have recorded similar damages. Energy crisis has become the most critical issue in Donga Mantung Division. But for these eight days of darkness the effects on lives are very bad and the situation is even the worst.
On October 24, there was panic and commotion in Nkambe.
The story goes that on October 24, 2016 one of the transformers supplying the CRTV antenna and CAMTEL Center cut fire. The shock was so violent that it created panic and commotion. The shock was such that the ENEO circuit breaker serving the CRTV antenna and the Camtel telephone exchange center got burnt. There was fright at the Nkambe district hospital to the point that patients on sick beds were evacuated. The entire city was in total confusion. It is alleged that this is the 26time that the transformer has cut fire. The first incident according to eyewitnesses happened in 1986.
Since that incident of October 24, 2016, Nkambe has been in total darkness yet ENEO has been mute over the issue.
