Celebrating
the Role Model (Synopsis Presented by Mangoh Jones Tanko)
I
have the distinguished honour to stand here to make a statement on the Award of
the “Man of the Year” which has been vested on the personality of Hon. Awudu
Mbaya Cyprian, by The Eye Group of Newspapers.
When I realized that I had to make this
statement, my ideas started wondering and I took up my eyes to see in my
library personalities who had made an impression in my mind. I saw book like “My
Life”, Bill Clinton, Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela, Our Endangered
Values by Jimmy Carter, etc. My mind now reflected on people who did much to
change the world for the better of mankind. Personalities like Hitler who
wanted to rule the world and was only stopped by World War II; Stalin of Russia
who transformed Russian primitive society and most backward European power to a
1st power in 25 years. Chairman Mao-Tse-Tung who stood firm to the
Chinese Values and fought the Capitalist West to bring China to eminence.
Mr. Nelson Mandela who through his personal
suffering for his country has brought the dignity of the Blackman to be
idolized.
Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi who in 1990
stood firm against the forces of tyranny to bring to us the liberty we have
now. The relentless fight against social injustice, tribalism, nepotism,
corruption, graft, squanders mania, clientelism, and moral decay in Cameroon
today is his efforts.
In the cause of looking at the
background of these people, they had very humble beginning. Many of them came
from poor backgrounds and as God will always play his part. They became people
who lived great lives and did great things to change the livelihood of their
people.
As for the event of today, it concerns a
person, personality known to me.
Honourable Awudu Mbaya Cyprian comes
from a very humble background from peasant parents whose morn is always with us
here. From a humble beginning as a businessman in the 1980s, he rose to a giant
in Douala putting up CAMITEX International and SOCAFAVEF. From this point, Hon.
Awudu Mbaya Cyprian decided to be a strong supporter of his mentor The
Honourable P.N NSAKWA in the 1980.
As the eve of multipartism and the wind
of change, Hon. Awudu Mbaya found solace in the Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi’s SDF
and rose to the rank of Vice Provincial Chairman of the Littoral in the 1990s.
in 1997, with a base where we had won the council of Nkambe for the SDF, Hon.
Awudu Mbaya stepped back home in 1997 and contested from his home base to
Parliament. He went to Parliament in 1997 and has since then gained the
confidence of his party’s hierarchy which has made his rise to the rank of
Questor at the National Assembly. He has built a very firm background for his
base where he is present always for duties and ceremonies.
Hon. Awudu keeps his eyes on all the
activities of his party both in the council and in all other aspect of
development. The Man of the Year Award which he is receiving today is only part
of the awards he started enjoying before going into partisan politics. He had received
International awards for his products at SOCAFAVEF etc. Today, he is treating
and exporting electricity poles a base he as used so well to get most of our
villages electrified. He is crusading in the health sector to equip some of our
health centres and ask for more. He is the proprietor of the 1st
Technical college in Nkambe and now runs the only Hotel of Standards which
serves the Divisional Headquarters.
I am about to state that The Eye Group
of Newspaper has not made any mistake in the selection of the Man of The Year
in Honourable Awudu Mbaya Cyprian. This spirit will surely encourage Hon. Awudu
Mbaya to do more and encourage everyone here to work towards such a goal.
I want to thank all of you who have come
to witness this event. Even though we have no roads leading to and from Nkambe
for whatever reason, I know that the Almighty God who brought you here will
take you safely to your destinations.
I want also to express a lot of thanks
to Mary Awudu for the care you have taken over your husband and you are now achieving
this success in your endeavour.
I thank our natural fathers who have
come to bear witness to this significant event. I want to appeal to all forces of power in this Division that the time
to come together to think is now.
You do not need to wait again.
Thank you for your kind attention.
